Standard Chartered
Good news on the application front; I've been contacted by Standard Chartered, and they're going to confirm a time and date for first round interview. Given that there's little about the application process, I'll be using this thread to note down some of the questions I got, hopefully for posterity. Extremely apprehensive about having to speak Arabic in my thick North African accent.
Once again, I'd just like to extend my thanks to redsuperted for clearing up that second question for me! First ever first round interview (other internship was really through networking), so it's almost certainly not going to be plain sailing.
Watch this space for more info.
Congrats! HTale. Are you applying for SCB internaitonal graduate program? me too. just submit app couple days ago.
fortunately SCB still doing very well this year. many other banks may freeze graduate programs.
Please update! Thanks!
No update as of yet, probably because of Eid holidays in the UAE. So any SCB applications should be patient because they'll almost certainly have a backlog!
jkid - yep, I'm applying to the international graduate programme, in the wholesale banking division. Which division and country have you applied to?
Me too, WB, but in Singapore, Asia.
so far havnt heard anything from them. . . probably because of this rolling app, they need time to process
HTale, r u from finance background? I studied information communication in university. There will be A LOT for me to learn
Cool. Thanks for the tips. I don't need to do this myself, but was interested to find out what you did/how you did this!
Sorry guys for the extremely late reply, but it's been absolutely hectic! Thank God, I got through, and the next round is an interview with senior management, either at the London office, or another telephone interview with the Dubai office. It's been quite a while, but here are the ones I remember:
1. Why Standard Chartered and IB?
2. What makes a good leader?
3. What's our global footprint, where do we get most of our revenue, and how would current events affect our performance?
4. Why Dubai?
The interviewer was amazing! She was extremely friendly, very informative, and very knowledgeable. I think of all the companies in the industry, this is the one to look out for. They're in all the emerging markets, and they're big in 3 of the BRIC countries, and they made steady gains despite the current climate
Wish me luck!
sounds pretty nice, good luck man. dubai will be a nice place for u, if u love artificial stuff :-)
i'm still waiting, since i applied for local office, i think the first round will be face-to-face one (if i get it).
they replied that they will "advice nxt stage in the app process"
what does it mean???
what is "nxt stage"?
'ok, come around for interview' or 'lad, its time for you to go home'?
It means either of those to be honest. Hopefully it'll be good news!
CAN SOME BODY TELL ME ..IS IT NECCESSARY TO HAVE A WORK VISA IF I APPLY TO INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE PROGRAMME FOR THAT PARTICULAR COUNTRY...I M CURRENTLY LIVING IN UK BUT A PAKISTANI NATIONAL..CAN I APPLY TO DUBAI AS WELL AS PAKISTAN/UK
Hopefully . . .
well, who knows?
HTale, how long was ur interview? did they say when will reach u again?
ahmadgla,
yes, u need work permit, scb is not hsbc. u can only make ur trip if u hav work permit to work at dubai.
Well, it was supposed to be 40mins, I think, but it went on for about 70mins. She said she would let me know as soon as possible, because she was still sorting out first round interviews for other people.
hmm it seems their questions are standardized globally. i am actually applying for HK . and i got the same questions. 65 mins.
Can anyone give any more info on the telephone interview questions? I've submitted my application so just waiting to see if I get to it. Thanks!
me? not yet. i applied International Graduate Program in Asia.
Anyone heard back from the initial interview for Int. Grad Wholesale banking for Hong Kong or Singapore?
I have been contacted by Standard Chartered and they told me I was going to have a group discussion. Anyone knows what that is about?
Yes...this is my first round, does anyone know why it is discussion and what it is all about?
Anyone heard back from the first interview for IG Wholesale banking for Hong Kong or Singapore?
Do you know what would happen to those students who are based overseas?
hi everyone! I applied for the IG program in Singapore too. Just want to share the experiences with you guys. How did everyone go with the first round group interview?
Hi guys. I applied for the IG Programme WB in Kenya. My telephone interview is on tomorrow at 10:30 am so am just climbing up walls, practising and generally talking to myself. I am going to give it my best. SCB is a fantastic and dynamic company to work for. I actually feel that it is my destiny to work with them. Tell you how it goes. IT CAN BE DONE BOYS AND GIRLS SO LET'S DO IT.
I've just had my telephone interview. It was very interactive though you need to think on your feet and remember to smile. It took around 18 minutes. Is that good or bad? I thought it was supposed to take 40 minutes. But they said they'll get back to me so am looking forward to that though probably in January.
mnkuria59,
am also in kenya and applied for WB....
my interview was supposed to be leo but pushed to thursday...
ilikuaje mjamaa?
vipi buda...
am also in kenya applied for WB and interview is thursday....
any subtle tips?
Hector,
Just be calm and confident. The questions are basically the ones posted above by HTAle. Practise them like crazy and you will be okay. The lady was very friendly but also very keen. Answer in short sentences because she'll pin you down on everything you say. Tell us how it goes. Wish you luck.
anyone went in for a presentation + competency interview for Hong Kong IG programme? would like to hear from u
same, when did u have your interview ? presentation + competency yea ?
anyone heard back from first round group discussion? I got an unusual email thanking me for my recent application, tht they are currently reviewing applications and that i should wait till Jan for the next stages of the application process?
I applied to Hong Kong...same as u. One of the interviewees who was in the group discussion with me got a rejection letter, but I got a unusual email thanking my application and tht they will advise me on the next stages of application process on Jan 2009. I really don't know wht tht means???
genchungxx: u applied to wb too ? when did u have your group discussion?
for me and my friend who applied to wb, we didnt do any group discussion. private message me your contact so we can hav a chat
hey i applied to wb hong kong too, just had the group discussion and they said it's gonna take them 2-3 weeks to notify us for further arrangement if the application is successful. So i guess after Xmas?

i had the group discuss a few days ago in Hong Kong, not in London
Yes, I applied to wholesale banking hong kong and I had the group discussion on dec 4.

Ftjai & genchungxx:
Why you guys use private messages instead of posting the questions and answers to share with everyone in the forum? I think this is not what a forum is supposing to function!
Come on, everyone here is sharing generously with each other, if you can benefit from the sharing, how come not to contribute back to the community of wikijob?
Seriously think that you guys should open your private messages here.
Everyone else:
Thanks for your generosity and wish you guys all the best with the application!
Sylar,
Private messages are a perfectly acceptable form of communication, and are useful to discuss individual matters that would clog up the forum otherwise. Rather than posting 7-8 irrelevant messages on this thread that would detract from the coherent structure, they can discuss matters by private message and then post the outcome of their discussion on the forum, if the feel is necessary/beneficial to the thread.
Private messages are a good method of networking and making friends on the website, and I've got to know a couple of Wikijob members fairly well through their use.
hey genchungxx: are you the only candidate who pass through the group discussion within the three of you guys?
hmmm..good question, I know one other person who didn't pass in my group, but I hav no idea about the other one. I'm not sure how Standard Chartered chooses, i guess it also depends on luck...

Congratulations! Good luck in the interview! Have they said when it will be?
