Dear all,

I have submitted my application to RBS and needed to do the numerical reasoning test and competency questionnaire, I would like to know a little bit more about this questionnaire, is it a kind of verbal reasoning test or it is just open questions that I need to answer? As I need to complete it within the next 3 days I would really appreciate if someone can give me some information about it.

Thanks a million in advance.

@ML,

Not at all, it is not a verbal reasoning test.

It is just a normal questionnaire. For each question, you will get four statements from which you have to choose the most like and the least like you. I think there are 48 questions in total, but I might be wrong. This helps the organisation to assess what type of personality you have and how best you would fit into the organisation and the role you applied for.

I hope it helps.

uybert, thanks a lot for the quick response. It is really helpful since a am a fresh graduate trying to sail though the current downturn of job market, it is really appreciated.

Are there any tricks or do they look for specific answers to these questionnaires? and do you know the rough passing percentile for the numerical test?

Hey ml85,

As a fellow candidate who searched through forums, I know some of your doubts.

Competency questionnaire is roughly the same everywhere and I don't think there's A CONCRETE RIGHT answer. You may have to selected the least and most likely answers that suit to your character and personality. Let's say...

In a team I often:

a) Am the leader; b) Try to bring the team elements together; c) Solve the problems; d) Plan everything to ensure success;

That just a rough example on what you may get. Some of the answers will definitely be good. I would just recommend you to be consistent (some questions may be similar) and AVOID sounding like a perfect guy.

Good to luck you!

I applied for corporate banking. I think the competency questions is based on luck, if your qualities suit their category you get through, if not, their losing out :P.

They also look into your CV at this stage in more detail.

8 October 2009 - 11:57am

hi google89 have u sat the competancy test yet? what kind of q's came up? i'm not sure if theres a numerical test i dont think so!

9 October 2009 - 5:52am

hi everyone, what exactly is the format for the RBS assessment? I just completed the numerical reasoning test- should i be expected to do a verbal test immediately if i passed the numerical round? i didn't even get a competency based test to do before the numerical reasoning one.

I applied for Global markets, sales.

I recall that for barcap, you get to do the verbal test immediately if you meet their minimum standard for the numerical test. Not sure if RBS has the same criteria.

Comments will be appreciated!

Cheers.

Hi guys,

I've applied for Corporate Banking and I have been invited to a 1st round assessment centre next Thursday. The assessment centre entails numerical and verbal reasoning tests, as well as a competency based interview. So has anyone been to a 1st round assessment centre? If so, were the pyschometric tests run by SHL? What were the competency questions?

Any response would be appreciated.

Hi blondie,

My assessment centre begins at 1.30pm so I guess I'll be having my competency questions while you are doing the tests. Yea I'm not bothered either about he numerical and verbal as they are normally quite nice, I just don't want to full at the easy stage really. Have you managed to find out whether it is SHL? For the competencies I'm practicing the wikijobs RBS phone interview questions which are aimed at different graduate positions, but I am sure they will similar. Also I'm just doing a other obvious ones. How about yourself?

16 November 2009 - 9:32pm

Hey,Ramildinho I got through the A/C for GRG while my friend went through Corporate Banking, and we got different A/C. The Numerical test he got was a typical SHL Numerical test that you could prepare for. And the other test he went through was a data analysis one, which I had too. Basically you are given the formulas to calculate several financial ratios, and score an investment's risk & return and make your own judgment on whether to accept/invest more/invest less/review/reject the investment project. So frankly speaking, you really could not prepare for that one. for competency questions, just prepare as normal. Do check the inside out of RBS and you will be fine. Hope you the best luck. cheers
