Deutsche bank numerical reasoning test
Posted 27 February 2009 - 5:10pm by ank
I took the numerical reasoning test and answered 15 out of 20 questions (probabaly all 15 correct)...has anyone passed having answered only 15 questions?
And how long do they take to respond because I have done the test 2 days ago...and still no reply..
Thanks for any replies
rejection letter came, I must say I was a bit surprised not to get called up. I expected to be rejected after first round or AC
I nailed all 20 questions, used up 20 mintues. I am 80% certain I got 18-19 right.
I am absolutely certain of only 1 mistake, (bummer)
I just finished reviewing my answers again without the time pressure...
Almost willing to bet my life that I couldnt have gotten less than 17 right.
Which leads to 3 possible explantion
1) I suck, CV suck, not good enough. enough said.
2) Everyone else did better than me in the numerical, oh dear! Do we have to nail 20 questions in 10 minutes or what?
3) I did the test late, I actually had to phone up for an extension coz I missed the the dateline, and only did the test on Monday!
anyway doesn't matter now, tough, better luck for me next time.
Ok, one down 9 to go! bring on the rejections!
@dangerousrave,
There is nothing to worry about. Firstly, they are very particular when it come to hiring.
I was rejected a couple of month back. I have a first, on top of that I have a masters from a top school and I am pretty sure that I got 19 out of 20 right as I captured the test.
I have a feeling that they give preference to their intern calibre then external candidates. Also those external candidates must be from certain schools or unis.
Finally they have perhaps filled all the positions which maybe why your application has been rejected.
@uybert,
I am not worried, it is my nature to get to the bottom of things, as in this case, I look at cracking them (DB) like a puzzle. Right now, I failed the solve the puzzle.
I can only assume it is one of the 4 possibilites that I did not succeed. 1 in 4 is too big a margin of error.
same here - I am sure I got 19 out of 20 too, should have been 20 out of 20.(then I would know for sure as I could eliminate at least one of the possbilities of my rejection, well based on your remarks I guess I could eliminate it too.
I was applying for intern though, graduated 1st in my uni
I am not too worried as I am in full employment, just wanted a crack at IB for a change of career.
Which uni were you at?
I think they may have a preference for Oxbridge.
These fucking online tests dont tell anything! People that will study long enough will get the same results as one that is just good in this standard tests.. I'm tired of this crap.
just massively failed the online DB numeracy test - thought: 'as an engineer this will be piss easy - percentages - how hard can it be'. I am such a tool, didnt realise how 20 mins could go so fast! got to about questions 13 after 19 mins then guessed the rest - which now i gather is the wrong thing to do as they use negative marking. Is this true?
I just wasted doing the most sexual application for their grad scheeme which i spent hours on.
Hey guys i'm having DB numerical test to be completed in around 6-7 days. It says the provider is Konetic. i have googled for konetic practice tests but found no info.
Can anyhow share any tips and info reg DB Online Numerical Test
Thanks guys
Naren
@ Messy17
I guess no. I have recently applied for Transaction banking at DB and a day after i have received a mail saying " Your application has been progressed to the next stage of the recruitment process" and having a numerical test to take within 7 days..
How long did it take them to get back to you after you submitted your application, to ask you to do the numerical test?
How long did it to take you to get that reply after you submitted the application?
Finished my app on tuesday but no reply so far. guess i should forget about DB then...
I was asked to do my Numeracy test about 3 days after i submitted my app. still havnt heard since i did the test though whcih was about a week ago.
contrary to my post above there may still be hope:
Dear ____
I am delighted to inform you that your application has been progressed to the next stage of the recruitment process. We would like to invite you to complete a numerical reasoning test on-line, which you can access using this email.
I wonder if this is standard or if they actually do review applications before sending out test invites?
It's my understanding that almost all applications make it to the numerical test stage. I'd go as far as saying that DB won't be looking over your application until it has been paired with a numerical test score.
Has anyone even been informed that they've been successful with the test? Given my performance on the day I don't expect a positive outcome, but I'm intrigued regardless.
I'm not sure abt whether they take a look at the application initially or not , i have received the mail to take the numerical test next day after i applied.
Finished my numerical test and could able to do 16 out of 20 questions.
The test provider is kenexa (http://www.psl.co.uk/practice/)
The questions were initially easy ones and later on the difficulty level increases as you pass through the test.
Has any1 done the test and got the results for the numerical test? any info is appreciated
I did 17 and guessed the other 3 - just cant leave them blank. Is it so bad to guess? If they are using negative marking, shouldnt it be a negative mark for either a wrong answer or a blank one?
I doubt they negatively mark. I'm just doing some practice ones on assessment day website before I take mine. Were they mainly % type questions, exchange rates etc?
Majority of the questions involved some % calculation in my test and there were a couple of exchange rate questions as well.
did all assessment day numericals + any others i could find on web this weekend. woke up 5am to do test before heading off to work today. managed 15 out of 20. reckon thats pretty s**t. left the others blank as ran out of time. i still remain optimistic..
I'm going to do mine tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed. Bottle will go when doing the test I reckon!! It's not how difficult the questions are, I think they are all ok (from the practice ones) its all about holding the nerves!!
Just called DB at lunch to try and postpone test as I'm on an internship in the city.
Was urged to do it asap...
Any advice from anyone who has already taken the tests?!?
Btw, no negative marking and is based on a percentile.
practice tests are dead easy compared to actual test questions. the trick is to work through the easy percentage ones as quickly as possible. some questions (like average calculation ones) can be done in half a minute where as other ones require a little more than a minute. based on todays performance I might have hit 50th percentile max given i did 15 out of 20 (crappy). should have done better as spent all weekend practising. I'm guessing they are looking for people in the 90th percentile and above..
I highly doubt they are looking for 90th percentile plus. These tests are not to find which applicants are amazing at simple calculations. I think they are just to find out who is not terrible. Maybe they look for 60th or even 50th
In my opinion if they were looking for 50th percentile (i.e. your results being better than 50 percent of those who take the test) the numbers would be too large to invite for interview/ review application. they might look for 70th percentile and then review those apps and cut out a few more....
When I spoke with the recruiter this afternoon, he said that once you have filled out the application you are invited to take the test. The applications have not been screened at this stage. He then said that after the tests have been completed, the overall application will be considered. Therefore, I think that the percentiles will be lower than 90...
sweet! thanks for the info OTC. good luck for your test...
I think the test is to filter out the bad applicants, rather than find the good ones.
Anyone heard back from DB after completing the online assessments?
ah mannn.. i hate playing this waiting game. what position did you apply for if you don't mind me asking? pm me if you want...
This is unusual for DB standards. For the internship I had been through the whole recruitment process in less than 10 working days, from application to rejection after final round assessment day.
I will remain silent until I have finished tomorrow's (previously postponed) assessment day elsewhere. Regardless of outcome I will then contact DB HR.
Hey guys
I completed the online test last week. I haven't heard from DB yet.
Finger crossed!
Hi MCG_b,
I'm just invited by Deutsche bank to complete online numerical test few days back. wanna know the level of difficulty, is it really tough? do you think exercises are necessary for DB's numerical test?
Thanx!
depends how good you think you are at numericals. personally i need practice for the PSL tests (the ones DB use) particularly for keeping time. SHL ones are easier and I have done loads in the past so I would take it slightly easier for those. My advice to you is to get practising.
Agreed with wannabe_trader. For most of the part it really is about practice.
While I pretty much flunked the DB PSL test, I recently sat BoA's PSL test and passed it. Neither were particularly dissimilar so about all I can say is that practice makes perfect.
Pass mark will vary from bank to bank but I passed BoA's assessment having completed 17 of 20 questions.
Hello everybody,
I have to complete a PSL numerical test, and i need to practice. What is the best way?
I have done the onlie practice test ,but it's very easy. Have you heard about a practice book??
Thanks in advance
In regards to the PSL test it isn't that difficult in comparison to others.Tthe best method of practising is doing any sort of numerical tests to focus your thinking. Having worked within deutsche I can also tell you that it is highly likely that the pass mark for the tests will vary depending on the division you apply for. If your considering sales&trading its worth noting that a pass mark can fluctuate between 17-19 depending on the quality of applicants who have sat the test in the prior recruitment cycle.
@ Mul.
Sorry guys this is off topic! I have done my online tests with BoA 2 days ago and still got nothing from them.
Could you tell me after how many days you got the outcome of your result from BoA?
In general, I would like to stress that no banks has a pass rate of 90% because in this case they will lose tonnes of great candidates. So in my opinion the highest pass percentile in DB is 70%. So, I could clear all the test but sure that 18-19 of 20 are correct. Because I had 5 minutes spare to double check all my answers.
In my time line on application status it shows that I reached interview level. Does it mean that I got through the numerical?
Good luck guys!
has anyone gotten an email or anything after taking the numerical test?
I'm wondering how long it will take because they say that they'll be in contact shortly :oS
thanks
@ Mul,
How long did it take for you to be invited for the interview after taking the online test?
I applied Deutsch bank IB on 9/09 and got invited to do the test on 15/09. They have sent out
On the 22/09, they sent out this email " Thank you for submitting your application for the Analyst Internship Program 2011. We are currently in the process of reviewing all applications.
We will not be progressing with applications until Mid November and we will contact you at this point. "
Guess it will be a waiting game now..hope it helps
actually this is very helpful but also weird - if you look at the recruiting calendar, the whole graduate program is supposed to be done by end of october (including all interviews).
I just wanted to know the status of whether i would be continuing or rejected!
It's good to know that it took a week for them to respond after submitting the test!
thanks!

Concerning the delay, don't worry, 2 days it's nothing ! I took the test in November and I still got no reply !
