I have gt one as well..guys what division did u guys apply to? But I guess the Telephone interview is the same for everyone...

The competencies will differ by division - for example for Trading they will probably ask you about a time when you had to take on risk, which I doubt they would ask for DCM.

I dont think the competencies will be different..first round telephone interview is the standard one for everyone.

i had mine on the 19th..but the HR lady told me she ll get bk in mid jan when she ll get done wid all the interviews..wat division u applied to?

hey....most seem to be preparing for the tele interviews...i have mine on the 13th for finance and i'm really tense since this is my first one...thanks priya for sharing your experiences...it gives an idea of what to expect....but it would be really helpful Wisecrown if you could share your experience during the interview with us as well......luck to all ....oo yea and a happy new year too

For those who have BarCap Tel Interview coming up soon:

I had my tel interview with BarCap mid Dec. The interview lasted for 16 minutes and tHR lady asked me following questions:

1. What did you enjoy the most during your university life? 2. Tell me the situation where you worked in a team? 3. Give me an example of a teamwork, where you had to deal with a problem. What did you do? What was the outcome? 4. Describe a situation where you had to deal with a sensitive matter? 5. Why Investment Banking as a business industry? 6. Do you have any question to ask?

I spent on average 3 minutes per question and I expected her to ask more than 6 questions...

first of all thanks a lot to priya and Wisecrown for providing the asked questions at the inteview. I also have a telephone interview for BarCap coming up soon, so I am trying to prepare as good as I can. After reading all the information given on this page, I still got three questions left.

First I am not sure what they expect to hear as an answer to the question: "Describe a situation where you had to deal with a sensitive matter?" - I don't really understand what is meant by "sensitive matter", maybe someone can give some examples?

Secondly I wanted to ask, if you think that in generel the interviewer is a little bit less strict with non-native speakers regarding the way of expression (which is the case for me)?

At last, I wanted to ask, if you think that if applying for an internship, a candidate is suppose to know what he is going to do exactly in his internship, how the workday is structured etc., or is that more a question for applicants of a "real" job at the bank?

Hi, I just had my Barclays telephone interview on Wednesday and thought I would share my experience and add the q's I was asked that hasn't been mentioned before. The interview lasted for about 25 minutes and I have just heard that I have been invited to the final assessment day

Along with the questions of 1) Tell me the situation where you worked in a team? 2) Give me an example of a teamwork, where you had to deal with a problem. What did you do? What was the outcome? 3) Describe a situation where you had to deal with a sensitive matter? 4) How are current market conditions likely to affect the department you have applied to 5) Any questions to ask?

I also had questions on 1) Describe a recent article that you have seen in the financial press that has been of interest to you 2) Describe a task that was boring/repetitive, how did you deal with this 3) Describe a task that required a lot of attention to deal, what did you do to ensure that it was done correctly

The interviewer was really friendly and clarified any issues that I had.

hi guys. had my interview, they called about 15minutes after the time slot which made me pretty nervous that id missed the time! lasted about 25mins overall and the questions asked were: 1. why your course 2. why Barcap 3. why finance 4. when have you worked in a team 5. how are you written skills and verbal skills 6. when have you had to perform mundane tasks and how did you maintain motivation 7. why IB 8. what current issues interest you 9. what current market conditions would effect the position you're applying for 10. where did you hear about us 11. have you applied anywhere else 12. have you received any offers 13. time when you have had a team disagreement and how did you resolve it 14. time when you have dealt with a sensistive customer.

theyre pretty much all the questions i can remember, theyre not in the right order but as i remembered them. not sure how i did really, seemed quite rushed and at one point was interrupted when answering and didnt even get a chance to ask questions at the end.

I applied for Barclays Capital in their operations department, how about yourself? Yes I had my interview Wednesday morning and found out about the final assessment centre today, they seem to be very good at responding quickly. Good luck with your application.

Does anybody have experiences from the Barclays Assessment centre as the email I received doesn't give me much to go on and I can't find a relevant thread.

I also applied to BarCap, but Finance department. I had my interview in mid December. Still got no reply from them.

Maybe Finance and Operation recruitment process differs.

Yikes! Does anyone have experience with the Barclays Assessment Centre and would be kind enough to post anything about it i.e. What sort of group material (finance or non-related) in the exercise, panel or one-on-one competency based interviews? How long for each? Many thanks!

Well, i had a telephone interview last week monday and today i got an email saying i've been invited to final round AC for tech :)

Not looking foward to it though, bricking it!

hiyah! m8 i've got my interview this wednesday yeh, & to be honest i am a bit confused about what to really talk about operations, to which i have actually applied. so kindly please fill me in, what actually is this roll about, & what is expected of me in case i am working in the operations. i do appreciate it. cheers!

Hey I had applied for a position in finance...didn't make it though, and they seem to be cutting jbs left right and centre so that doesn't help too much either. Hope you guys are having better luck

Heads up to all the guys waiting to hear about finance internships... I'm in the finance dept. at BarCap at the moment on Industrial Placement and the assessment centre for Finance interns took place yesterday and they should be finishing up sometime this week, so if you haven't heard by now it may not be good news. Sorry!
