Hello everybody,

I have been accepted for Jaguar Land Rover Assessment centre (Product Development) and I was wondering if anyone has already been through this process. I would appreciate it if someone could point out what to expect in terms of interviews, role play etc.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, I had my assessment centre for an engineering role 8 days ago. I thought it went pretty well. But nobody has gotten back to me yet. When did you hear back from JLR whether you were successful or not?

Hi I have my assessment day with JLR on april 25th 2013 at Woodside Glasshouse Lane. My role is in finance and titled as parametric cost knowledge engineer. lots of numbers and statistics. i love my maths and accounts anyway :). i know this is going to be a long process to get the job.
has anyone got a clue about the latest assessment center style questions for finance hires like me?
btw anyone on the same day as me?
many thanks in advance for replies.

I'm in the same situation. Applied for the finance scheme in december, did the online tests and then just get the same email every time saying they've had a lot of applications and still reviewing them. Has anyone here heard back about the assessment centre for the finance scheme?

I did apply for a finance position way back in 2011, and it was the same too. though i did have to go through online tests, assessment centre, role play. i have given details of what the interview process entails in one of my psostings in April/MAY 2011 here on wikijobs. so you can go through the threads if you can.
But all the competencies are tested(i think they are all the JLR values.) if you do need further information. do let me know.

I submitted my application for the Product Development Undergraduate Scheme in October and got an invitation to do the online tests a week after.
I did those tests on 4/11/2012 and I'm still waiting for an answer, although I sent an email on December and they told me there was a high volume of applications and that they would take mine under consideration, too.
I really hope that helps you, any other information is welcomed, so please share your experience ^^
I will keep you updated if you want me to. Good luck!!

do the online SDH tests. the real ones are harder on the day but you'll get the idea. try and find harder ones online if you can. for me the mechanical pull a lever, which light goes on, etc were doubles, ie. one action meant two possible other activations. on the next Q. this got reversed ext., ok if your into those mind games. %-ages on the maths tests, all the tests are difficult toachieve in the time they give you. check out the JLR framework, during the interview/s ALL of your answers need to be along the lines of the Behavioural Framework, answer stupidly at your peril. sorry to be blunt but you know how seriously you want this. Good luck.

I was due to attend an assessment day on 16th November but have today been told it has been postponed due to a new model launch! Has anyone else had the same email? It seems strange that HR would be needed for a model launch? Or am I being fobbed off? They claim they'll be in touch 'in the new year'?

      • lunaticalm

      Hi Farooko

I did the assessment for manuf. grad position not for an experienced role. I had a competency based interview which goes for an hour. Questions were like...describe a part/aspect of a job which you dint like...tell me a time when you took a quick decision...the general group work question... describe a situation where you improvised something...stuff like that. Each question opens into a few sub-questions by which they probably judge if you would screw up their plant...Also I was told this before by many careers and recruitment people - all your answers for the competency questions should be mostly from previous work experiences or experiences other than your silly final year projects or academic stuff...yea...for the old chappies who take your interviews your degree projects will be silly

Hi Toobusytotalk, when did you get the result for the mid-April AC? Which management role did you applied for?

  • 27 June 2011 - 2:59pm
    • toobusytotalk

Attended assessment day in mid-April, failed to get the job (management role) and asked for the feedback so i might improve my skills. It's now the end of June and i am still waiting for that feedback??
So if you fail don't hold your breath for any feedback.
Despite taking a days holiday to attend and 2 days in preperation, JLR can't seem to find 30 minutes to give the feedback THEY offered?
    Poor show!

    Hi "lunaticalm",

How was your interview? I am also attending the assessment centre on 17th July at Warwick for manuf. positon.

    • 27 June 2011 - 1:23pm
      • lunaticalm

I got rejected like a thousand others! I might apply next year maybe. Ok do your numerical and diagrammatic thoroughly cause the ones there are tougher (with lesser time) than the ones you give online before. Group work - they give you a problem with a leaking moonroof (sunroof) and give possible solutions which are common for all. Each member is heading a department and has one solution in detail to recommend from his dept. Make sure you work out your decision first perfectly and then do the other stuff. Always be the first one to talk but do not shout. Try working your solution perfectly and convince others to take your solution as the final recommendation. The role play also deals with a problem with the head light switch with cars being sent to the Japanese market. It states that the Japanese switch off/on their headlights at traffic signals that is why the contact points wear out prematurely. You are given three solutions and based on calculations you need to convince the person which is the best one and why. There is no specific answer but you should choose one and stick to it. Reason it out why that is better then the other. Give all possible reasons like quality, reputation of the company, negative impacts, costs involved, extra workers etc. There is no technical presentation for manuf. grads . Be sure to read all the information quickly for the group work and role play. There is a lot of key info that you tend to miss. They give you note pads for every activity which they collect afterwards. You are supposed to write your names on it so they use these for assessing as well. So try to write all the stuff you understand. Interview is fairly easy and for an hour. Take a look at the high performance behaviours on their website, the questions are pretty much based on these. And yes the lunch sucks!

Hi guys I am also attending the assessment centre on 15th June at Warwick. I am trying for the manufacturing stream. As a good resource to study from I would recommend the University of Kent's careers and employability section. Just do a google search
'university of kent assessment centre' there is a good amount of study material there. One of my mates attended the assessment centre last month and hasn't heard anything yet. He said that they really rush you through things. So presence of mind is really important. The role play and technical presentation are the ones to prepare for thoroughly. I think group work is more of a combined effort and has to be worked upon as a team, they give you a situation for which we have to work out solutions in unison. The structured interview would be familiar (maybe easy) to people who have given a few interviews before, except that they bombard you with a lot of competency questions. My mate said his lasted one and a half hours! Thats a lot of grilling!

I have attended the assessment day recently....although I havent performed to the level i planned...I must say its a good experience. As most of the earlier posts suggested, there were 4 levels of assessment Technical, Psychometric, Roleplay and Behavioral assessments. Thanks for sharing your experiences folks..Good luck to those who are awaiting their assesments.

    Hello to all....

I really appreciate your comments; most useful. I didn't even know there'd be a technical interview until today!

I'm due on Tuesday, 24th of May for the Product Development. It's the first time I've done anything of the sort.. so I'm pretty nervous as you can perhaps all empathise with.

What I really would like to know... is what sort of material they are expecting you to bring? I appreciate there is a technical interview; so perhaps my final year project would be suitable? Also... I've been working since I left University as a Design Draughtsman.. with Solidworks and AutoCAD. Would it be worth taking any examples of my work along-or is that a tabboo?

I'm assuming that the numerical and verbal tests are similiar to the online ones and therefore...nothing to worry about? If they are in any way more advanced..please, someone spare me embarassment! I'm not expecting any high level Mathematics, just simple arithmetic-correct?

The scariest thing to me sounds like the role play and group exercises... any info would be MASSIVELY appreciated. Also.. finally.. how long is the presentation, and it is on whatever yoiu chose then is it..???

Thanks a lot and good luck to all future applicants.. to the unlucky ones ( as perhaps soon to be myself) don't give up and think of the experience you'll always have!!!

    Regards
    Stu

Thanks for all the info really helpful - Like most of you I applied in Dec and didnt hear back from them until last week! I have an assessment centre on the 4th of May, anyone else going? Im on the product development stream so if anyone has any tips or advice would love to hear them! Also do we have to do a presentation?? The email only says interview, role play and group exercise?

    Any help is much appreciated!

      Hey Aziz....

Just curious as to how your assessment was.... and if you had any hints/tips with regards to the message I posted just beneath yours.

I'm most concerned with the technical interview I've heard about..how long will it be?

And also.. what sort of things are you expected to bring.. examples of your work etc? can you take things froma previous job or is that massivey tabboo?? If I deleted the contract information form the drawing templates for example.. would that be cool?

      Cheers

      Stuart

The assesment for finance is in 3 stages, the group exercise, competency interview and role play.
The group exercise will involve giving you a brief that involve JLR going into a new market and they have a range of options of cars to manufacture in that country.
So you have to read your brief very well and try as much as possible to assert your views on why the particular vehicle you are given should be the one for JLR to go ahead with.
Try and understand the background information you will be given, but most importantly be a good team player. Read more about the dos and donts of group exercise.
Also the competency interview is based on the "high performance behaviours" of JLR have a look at their website aand have an example for each of those behaviours such as agility and flexibility, clear direction, high performance, efficient delivery etc.
How would you take advantage of Training and Development at JLR.
Wh do you want to work for JLR
Who are your customers/clients in the role you applied for.
How you have helped someone/corrected someone who was doing the wrong thing.

Then the role play you wil be given a brief about cuts in budget to a particular departemnt. You are the one in charge of that budget in relation to production.
You will be expected to produce a revised product life cycle based on some key incidents that will cause changes:
    1. Fire incident that will delay production.
    2. Budget has been reduced by 350k by the CFO
    3. One of JLR competitor is trying to bring out a sports car within the next 3years, so JLR will have to put itself in a competitive position ahead of the competition.
    4. You will be asked to write a report based on the role play that you have with the Production Manager, any recommendations or conclusion tha you arrived at after your meeting.
Also, the key focus of the role play will be on:
    financial position ie sales, revenue
    competition
And the key competencies they will be looking at is business focus, how can you manage company resources.
Strong Teams how do you interact with the Production team as a finance person
Customer focus, how you can meet customer needs and expectations.
Its a really advanced role play to be honest and time is also a factor.
Try and understand your brief very well,
if you still have any questions let me know, but sorry that i dont check my mail quite often but i will try and respond asap

    hi inus,
would love to help you out. unfortunately i wasn't able to attend in the end. they said they will give me a new date if they are to have any more ACs.
    is yours for finance?
when i spoke to recruitment i did ask if we have to do a presentation, they said not for our scheme, so im presuming we still dont have too. but i cant be sure, as joksa's e-mail for prod. development didnt mention presentation but he/she had to do it.
when is yours? best of luck!

Thanks Happychappy, i'll get over it

But to reply to chazzer15, well it took a long time too for me. Applied early Dec, didn't hear anything, emailed them in mid Jan they said still under consideration, then about 2 weeks after was asked to do test. They got back after awhile saying I had passed but, I still had to email them to ask if I was still on and they said they are still processing. however, I had info for assessment day 3-4 wks prior to the day.

From what they said they run assessemnt centres until they get the people they want, so if they don't they continue searching...
      best of luck

Hey sorry to hear about it Jokasa, at least it would have been an experience.

I havent been told about a presentation :s

do they pick a topic for you, or do you present it on anything you wish to ( ie a subject you have studied or project you have done)

how long do you have for it?

How about the technical interview for the engineering, do they expect you to answer questions on structures, fluid dynamics, etc

I wish you all the success in the future.

Well dono if you have been told that you have a presentation if yes then I advise you to start thinking about it now....I didn't cos I assumed they would give us a topic but you have to think about yours, and yeah was quite a challenge, dont think it was a sucess.

Also for role play not down the details given ..even up to the date that is suggested. I got caught out on some details that I kind of overlooked, pay particular atention to the why you are having the role play..ie its aim.

Well the tests where done again obviously will be a like the test examples that they sent. Interview is quite detailed so you'll have to prepare / think about scenarios in your life that relate to the questions ie, when you have helped someone, when you have seen some not doing the right thing, when you have been persistent on something, etc etc

Role play is generic its all about team work and reasoning togther as a team, just hope that the group you are with realise that its not about competing with each other but working together.

      best of luck

thanks a lot for your advice jokasa. no they didnt mention presentation, just retesting, group excercise , role play and structured interview. were u told that you would have one? did u apply for finance? i thort there would be one but i was assuming it may have just been for engineering canditates to prepare in advance for. can you chose any topic to do it on, how long for?

is the role play linked in with the group excercise then? whats the role play actually about?
thanks for your info, it rlly helps having some sort of idea of what to expect.
hope you get it, u find out soon?

        • 20 March 2011 - 10:03am
          • Jokasa

Ok maybe you don't have to do presentation, mine was for engineering.

No all tasks are seperate, so what you do in role play is not linked to the group exercise...most likely they'll get you another person (not an interviewee) or the assessor themselves will do the role play with you. You are given instructions and usually the preparation time is between 15-30min. It can vary.
Vaguely, role play required you to recommend a decision to a senior person because your manager was called away and you had to represent him. But he doesn't tell you what to do you are left to make the decision and obviously you have to justify your decision to the senior person you are meeting....I can assume JLR know that people go to this forum and share info so don't expect it to be same...from my uni we were given a example role play and this was about meeting a client for your company and having to help meet their requirements, so it could be anything.

Just study job requirements and you might be better prepared for the role play and improvise where required.

            Cheers jokasa!!
do you know what a structured interview is? did you have one too? ive only done competency based. im assuming it will be similar sort of questions such as you mentioned before( give me a time when......) . does structured just mean they will make the questions exaclty the same for everyone and there will be no sub questions to the intial one or they are maybe all standardised too for every interview.

            • 20 March 2011 - 10:41pm
              • Jokasa

Well it said structured interview and like I said above it was loads of compentency questions. Wether or not they are different that I don't know

Something I realised is the email they didn't mention the presentation_ it mentioned the Structured Interview, Role Play, and Group Exercise, so was kind of surprised when I got there and it was on...oh well ( although this is my most wanted job)

was yours the finance /manufacturing graduate scheme?
and does the presentation have to be relating to your role or anything.
                what was the interview like?
thanks and will really appreciate if you can provide information.

Yeah feel for you guys, star87 and Greenangel10, came back from mine yesterday all i can think of is the fact that I didn't do my best, I prepared and all but it was my first assessment so dono.

I don't feel confident about it, so I guess I'll just ask for feedback when they drop the bombshell, shame I had hoped to do better and get selected...I hope I do, then again everyone always does. schedule was as mentioned in email and as most people had said here, but I messed up my technical presentation which for me was interviewed by the guy in bigger position :-(.

Yeah the wait is a pain, just yesterday but its already keeping me from doing anything else...

      Hey Jokosa,

I have also got an assessment centre for the product development scheme and I would appreciate if you could tell me in detail the activities and the competency questions you were asked. I am told in the email I received there would be a structured interview, role play, group exercise and technical presentation. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

I just got the same email :(. I've just emailed asking for feedback so I hope they email back quickly so I can improve for the next one. Oh well at least it was experience and we did well to get that far!

    Hi,

I sent them an email this morning and apparently You will be contacted as soon as the outcome is available. The guy in the morning doing the tests did say it may take longer than 2 days.. But I am personally not holding out hope. But it wouldn't take that long to email us to say sorry you are not successful..

    • 15 March 2011 - 12:54pm
      • star87

I'm not holding out much hope either but the waiting is the worst part. I really wanted to find out soon so I can decide whether to attend another assessment centre at the end of this week. So do you think they will ring everyone regardless of the outcome or do you think unsuccessful candidates will get an email? My boyfriend works in HR at JLR so he said he'd try and find out some information today, i'll let you know if I hear anything.

    Hi,

I also attended the assessment day for hr on the 10th March. I thought we were going to hear back either friday or monday? I havent heard anything so maybe they were only letting the successful candidates know then. Has anyone from that assessment day heard anything?

  • 14 March 2011 - 11:00am
    • Greenangel10

I attended an assessment day last thursday, I was just wondering how long it takes for them to reply with the outcome?

As for details regarding the assessment day:
Be sure to have enough examples to answer all the key aspects which they are looking for. Be prepared to be waiting around for hour and half blocks dependent upon how the scheduling goes.

Did anyone get a job in product development????

How may days/months Jaguar took to finalize the selection after the interview??

  • 20 February 2010 - 12:20am
    • Matt_B

Yeah, graduate manufacturing engineering. Emailed them a few days ago and they got back to my yesterday saying it will take 6 - 8 weeks (between February n April) to get your assessment centre date if your successful. If you email the address they sent the psychometric test links on they'll be able to tell you whether your application is still active, under assessment or not.

I sent the application 2 weeks prior the deadline. Then I had an SHL numerical and verbal reasoning test. Invitation to the assessment centre came 2 weeks after that. What I would suggest in your case is to drop them a friendly e-mail asking for further information about your case. It shows your concern and that you really care (from my point of view)

        Hi,

I have the SHL numerical & reasoning tests for JLR and was wondering if the Q's were simular to the tests on the SHL website. Also did you take a snap shot of the questions?

          • darren0973

          Hi J0000

The SHL tests are very hard I did the Managment graded test which comprised of 3 areas, you have 3 minutes to do 4 questions, you dont get chnace to get the calculator out or read the passage in the verbal reasoning tests, just try and do one question and guess the rest. Good luck!!

p.s Did my tests last week.
