PWC- Middle East Graduate Careers- Guidance Required

5 March 2012 - 4:01pm

HI Everyone,

I couldn't find help on any other forum so I tried posting here.

I applied to PWC Middle East Graduate Programme. After completing Numerical and Verbal Reasoning tests I got immediate e-mail as follows:-

"We are delighted to confirm that we wish to progress your application further and would therefore like to invite you to complete an application question. Depending on the area of the firm you have applied to, you may be asked to complete more than one question."

Its the first time I am applying to a graduate programme, so can anyone please guide me to what to expect?? Is this another timed test?? There are no details given in e-mail of any time limits for this questionnaire to be filled...

Thank You,

    Hi Guys,

So i applied for an assurance graduate scheme in the UAE, done the application online, the online test, phone interview and now im getting a phone interview with the assurance manager in abu dhabi. They said that they might skip the assessment centre for me because I live in London and they dont want to drag me all the way there (fine by me) but I wanted to know if anyone was actually successful and if i was asked about any problems that PWC are facing, would they have to be issues here in the UK or in UAE, or worldwide?

if anyone can give me tips that would be awesome! :)

    Hey guys,

A piece of advice from me. I've been trying to apply to the Big 4 firms in the Middle East (mainly in UAE, KSA, Jordan) for around 2 years. Not only me but many people I know as well. The thing is, they're ALL UNPROFESSIONAL, every single one of them. Yes EY, PWC, KPMG and Deloitte are unprofessional when you're talking about their offices in the Middle East.

If you want to apply the traditional way (through their online website, by applying, filling the form and then doing the online tests) then you have a SMALL CHANCE. On the other hand, if your family have a good connection in that firm ("wasta" as it's called in the Middle East), then you're good to go, even if you score bad results in the assessments.

These so called international firms in the Middle East aren't professional nor they are equal opportunities employers (they are equal opportunities employers outside the Arab world though).

They usually just post openings online because they are obliged by the law to do so. They already know, or are about to give the position to someone even before posting the vacancy online.

I applied to all the Big 4 firms over and over, some of them don't even send you an automated email after submitting an application. Others never get back to you. Some send you the online assessment link, and after you finish it and pass it, you never hear from them again, you try sending emails and calling them, just for them to tell you send us an email.

After a while, you keep checking for online vacancies but find none. Nothing is there! BUT your connections on LinkedIn are updating their profiles and writing that they are working at EY, PWC, KPMG or Deloitte during that time (yes when you were checking and finding nothing online). The question is how? Arabs might already know the answer, and it's because your friends dad or uncle might know a director or partner at these firms while your dad doesn't.

It's a tragedy really to see such talented individuals holding degrees from good universities just sitting at home, while the ones who did nothing score the job you always dreamed about having.

    Hi Wikijobber91
I understand you, I've been sending my application to PWC UAE last year and they took 6 months to reply me. They sent me an email saying they had many applications and had more suitable candidates. It is the first time and the last time I apply to Pwc. Never again. They're very unprofessional. Unfortunately I have no important contacts.

Unfortunately, the above applies to the south europe as well, specially Greece, Italy and Spain. For all Big 4 companies.

    Hey guys !
I received yesterday an email from PWC Dubai to inform me that they will send me an email from SHL to take the numerical and reasoning test. Has anybody here done those tests before ? where can I find sample tests ? how can I prepare for it ! Thank you !

I just recently did the tests, and I passed them, if you do SHL practice tests, they are similiar, some are hard some are very easy, you need to look at them with common sense as a lot of the numerical questions tend to confuse you if you do not apply common sense.

The verbal one, I have lived in the UK for over 6 Years, and I would say my english understanding of written work is very good, however you really do need to pay attention as some of the sentences are quite hard, but just try read the question first, then find where it is mentioned in the text and focus on that rather than the whole paragraph.

So, I have a phone interview for Advisory deals in Abu Dhabi on wednesday , can anyone help out with what kind of preparation I need to do? how long does it take and what sort of questions are asked? the person who informed me about the interview didn't mention anything, and I couldn't ask as I was hiding in the toilet at my current work place when I answered the call LOL.

Last question, does anyone know what the pay package roughly would be? as I will be moving from the UK (If I get the position, fingers crossed). would I be able to live with it?

    Hello Everyone,

I came across this thread by chance, however I found the cases quite relevant to what I am about to say:

I had applied to PwC Consulting Middle East in July 2013. The interview process took place from then right to the end of the September. The good news is they are very interested in hiring me. I was told that they want to take this forward and are real interested in joining their team. However, I still am not. Now, I don't understand what is the issue, be it the communication or is the process that long. I have done 4 interviews + a partner interview. What does everybody think?

    Thank you in advance.

Haha it does help and totally agree with you.

sorry to hear that but if it makes u feel better they r not a really MNC, I contacted PwC UK after that and I've been told that they r a separate legal entities and they have no control over them, also they mentioned that if they need any work done in Middle East they contact them and pay them money like any other company would do. So basically u can say that companies in Middle East and more precisely in Saudi Arabia are a punch of idiots non professional people. Thats my conclusion :)

    • User10

Yeah that is true specially with these graduate programs they tend to go for gulf nationals. I had an experience of that with a MNC last year got a telephone interview with them and it ended when the guy learned I wasnt a Saudi national, but an expatriate who has lived most his life in Saudi Arabia. Got a rejection the very next day lol

I expected them to take all Saudis I applied last year and they asked me to change my first preference from Saudi Arabia to any other city in the middle east, but I was adamant about the location since I live here and got a rejection shortly after.

This year it looks different because they actually asked me this year if I had a transferable Iqama which they didnt last year.

Btw I think they suspended hiring last year a guy wrote on FB that after passing his partner interview for Dubai he was told PwC suspended hiring.

You know maybe this is why for the first time I saw a Saudi appearing for the ACCA exams in Saudi Arabia.

    • mazen89

I dont think this year will be any different to be honest. They asked me last year if i have a transferable Iqama and even though I didnt even have an Iqama at all (I was there working on a business visit visa) they gave me an interview with the hiring manager and with a partner. The thing in gulf countries that they have these nationalization programs so when u apply for a job there it is not about how good ur qualifications are and how good u perform in interviews, it is about whether u r lucky enough not to have any applicants to the same position that hold the nationality of the country u r applying for.

  • 25 January 2014 - 6:44pm
    • mazen89

oh and btw the 4th guy they took was Egyptian and the hiring manager was Egyptian as well (what a coincidence!!!!)

  • 25 January 2014 - 6:40pm
    • mazen89

if u r not a national of one of the gulf countries dont even bother since ur chance is slim to none! I applied last year to Dubai but for some reasons they decided to interview me for a position in Riyadh and they wanted to take 4 people, they ended up taking 3 saudis out of 4.

I have a question for people who interviewed for PWC Saudi Arabia. Were you all nationals Saudi Arabia? or GCC country? or Expats living in Saudi Arabia? Did any expat get an offer or an interview for the graduate position in Saudi Arabia?

    Hi guys,
I just got rejected from PwC Qatar for tax. My interview was on July 17 and they replied today so its been a month and a half before I got a response. They say the reason is fierce competition but I dont know why they took forever to tell me that. I definitely am disappointed because they took forever to reply. I really wanted to work for pwc but honestly maybe this was for the best :)

@mazen89 i am sorry to hear that. The lack of communication is definitely a serious piss off! I tried calling and emailing too but they just refuse to respond! I gave up any hope on this job now

"You shouldn't have to wait too long. We'll let you know whether we'd like to make you an offer as soon after the final interview as possible" This is written in their website. The funny part that I had to wait almost 2 months after my partner interview to get this generic email "Thanks for your interest in PwC. We regret to inform you that your application has not been successful at this time.".

I have called them and sent them emails during the past two months but no one bothered to get back to me, even now I sent them an email asking for more specific feedback but I got nothing, I called them and I asked for my contact in the recruitment team and the senior manager who interviewed me but also as usual they were not available. btw this was for Saudi Arabia.

During my job hunt I have interviewed in many companies and banks and I can say that PwC were the most unprofessional people. Usually when u have an interview and u get rejected, they give u more specific feedback regarding your interview and they tell u what were ur strengths and ur weaknesses.

All I can say is that Lack of professionalism in PwC Middle East is an utter disgrace........

Haha... Numerical and Verbal reasoning are nightmares for this. But make sure (once youve finished your tests) that you go back unto the system. They give you a free feedback report!

    • pwcgradtrainee

I emailed the director since i did not get a response from the HR. He said they are still interviewing applicants and a final decision should be made by the end of this week. But its Eid so I am not sure how they are planning on making the decision during holidays :/

  • 5 August 2013 - 1:42pm
    • mazen89

I guess they r taking their time! I guess because of Ramdan business is slow so most of the managers decided to take their annual leave and make use also from Eid holiday. But still the HR should have at least given us some updates!

  • 5 August 2013 - 12:51pm
    • AbdulGhani

  • 1 August 2013 - 2:45pm
    • mazen89

I agree with max, we've heard that a lot and also I dont think we'll hear anything next week since I think they r going to work only on Sunday and Monday then they will have 1 week off because of Eid. Most likely we'll hear back after 13th of August.

  • 1 August 2013 - 2:14pm
    • max1990

Abdul I don't want to ruin any hopes or anything but we have heard those words many times by now. ;) I hope you are right but I would just wait now until they do what they have to do. We did our part
