If you are successful at this stage, you will then need to pass:
- Competency based interview
- Final Assessment
Competency Based Interview
This is a competency based interview (click the link for info).
Your interview at Deloitte can take from 1 to 2 hours, though it usually lasts about 75 minutes. You will be interviewed by a manager from the department to which you have applied. All interviews are standardised; the interviewer will read out prepared questions and record your responses.
The questions are based on Deloitte competencies and you will be asked for two examples to demonstrate each competency area that you are evaluated on. The competencies are in seven main areas and they represent the qualities that the interviewer is looking for. These areas are:
- Achievement of goals
- Commercial awareness
- Career motivation
- Planning and organisational skills
- Problem solving
After your interview, he/she will grade you and return these details to the graduate recruitment team for processing. You should receive feedback on your interview within 3 working days (though it can take longer than this).

All interviewers at Deloitte have been trained to interview graduates by an in-house team. Deloitte operates an interviewer training day (in other words, an opportunity for the managers to train to interview) and for this they require a stream of real graduates to interview.
Putting yourself forward for this is an excellent way for graduates like you to get interview practice. The questions will be similar to those at professional interviews, so you will gain a good understanding of the interview process from both company and candidate perspective, and you may even be paid.

The interview questions you are likely to be asked include:
- Do you have any goals in the past and how did you achieve it. (Achievement of goals)
- Give me an example of when you gave a presentation (presentation skills)
- Give me an example of when you have to make a decision (Decision making)
- Give me an example of when you have had to persuade someone. (Communication)
- Give me an example of when you were involved in team work (Social Interaction)
- Give me an example of when you were involved in a multi-task situation. How did you manage it? (Planning and Organising)
- Why are you choosing Deloitte? (Commercial awareness)
- Why are you choosing audit? (Commercial awareness)
- What interested you the most in the recent news? (Commercial awareness)
You may also be asked about what business you admire the most, and why.
1. When asked for two examples to demonstrate a competency, make sure you leave enough to say for the second example.
2. When giving your answers, try using the STAR format and make sure you’ve covered everything in detail:
- Situation- what was the context or background?
- Task – what exactly needed to be done?
- Action- what did you do to accomplish the required result?
- Response- what was the overall outcome and how was it received?
- Take a few moments to think, particularly if the question seems a little complicated. It is better to take your time rather than give a fast but poor response.
- Stay positive throughout the interview, even if you feel you have not answered some questions as well as you might have.
- Don't panic. Some of the hard questions are used to gauge how you cope under pressure. Therefore, you should do your best to stay calm.

This takes place in the office to which you have applied. It comprises of just two parts:
- Commericial Awareness Presentation
- Competency based interview
There is sometimes the option to complete both rounds of interviews in the same day, if your first interview is in the morning.
Commercial Awareness Presentation
You will receive the topic of your presentation before your final interview date in order to prepare. The presentation will last roughly five minutes with ten minutes of questioning.
This interview is with a partner in the firm. This interview differs greatly from the first interview, and is much more personable. There are no set questions. The interview will be competency based and will focus on career motivation and commercial awareness.
- Stay calm. If the interviewer is putting you under pressure, it is likely just to see how you respond.
- Make sure you are prepared with some general examples to assist you in responding to some random competency questions that may come up. Typically by the partner interview stage, there are no competency questions.
- Ensure you demonstrate your knowledge on the company and the commercial environment that it operates in.
- Ask questions to make this session as interactive as possible.

Receiving an Offer
If you succeed in the assessment centre, you will receive a call from a representative of the company offering you a position within three working days. You will then be provided with a contract.
