Maths is kool

I have had two interviews with Punter Southall and I will inform you of how candidates are assessed. The first interview I had was for the summer internship scheme as was a very basic interview.

• When I arrived at their Wokingham office I was greeted by their HR lady who confirmed to me that I would be having two interviews, one with two people from HR and the other with two partners.

• The interview with the HR ladies was competency based just asking various questions that you can expect. The only weird question was “if a tree falls in a forest and knows one hears it, does it make a sound”.

• The interview with the two partners was more technical however because it was for a summer internship, I believe that they only wanted basic knowledge from me. These questions could have been predicted and the only question I had a problem with was “who is your hero”

With regards to my previous comment, I will also diverge of what occurs when I attended an assessment centre at Punter Southall.

• I did not have a first round interview as I believe that they only wanted to recruit only one person for their Guildford office. When I turned up their was seven other nervous candidates and we were initially given a talk about Punter Southall and how they are different to every other actuarial firm.

• First I had an interview with a partner and then somebody from HR; this was slightly weird as I had to use a language which was both appropriate to both assessors. Later on I had a further interview which was similar, there were know questions that you would not expect, just a mix of technical and competency.

• Then I was given ten minutes to prepare a presentation on anything that I wanted to, this was quite easy as I had prepared a presentation already so I had know problems with this. I then had to present to an assessor and three other candidates. I then had to listen to other presentations and ask relevant questions on each presentation.

• Finally I was given twenty minutes to write a letter complaining about something that had occurred to me in my past. It could have been made up and I believe that they were just trying to see that you knew how to write simple letters.

• Finally the day was ended with drinks in their office with graduates and the assessors. Finally we said our goodbyes and went home.

What did you talk about for the first question i mentioned them being a smaller firm than the big4 which means therefore a well-connected network within the company and abit about there investors in people accreditation but i dont know what else to put
