Procter & Gamble Application Process

Applying to Procter & Gamble

[Edit]

(also see Procter & Gamble Interview Questions)

Graduate applicants should have, or be expecting a minimum of 2.1 degree and 280 UCAS points.

Application Process

[Edit]

The application and assessment process at Procter & Gamble is as follows:

  • Online Application
  • Online Questionnaire
  • Reasoning Test
  • First Interview
  • final Interview

Online Application

[Edit]

You will need to apply online for a graduate position at Procter & Gamble. Visit the Procter & Gamble website and check current job vacancies. If you find a position that suits you, click 'apply now' to begin your application.

To make an online application you will need an electronic copy of your CV (in English) and a summary of your latest grades to input into your application. Once you have successfully applied for a graduate role you will receive a confirmation email.

If rejected you will not be allowed to re-apply for 12 months. Successful applicants will be invited to complete an online questionnaire (although not all roles require candidates to complete this).

Online Questionnaire

[Edit]

Based on the position you have applied to, you will be asked to complete a 20 - 30 minute online questionnaire. This will be relatively straight-forward but will be used to discern which candidates to invite to the next stage of the assessment.

The online questionnaire is composed of two parts:

1. Success Drivers Assessment - Involves a series of short questions that ask how you would respond to a particular situation or problem in the workplace. Some questions will also ask you to evaluate your own academic standing and leadership qualities.

2. Reasoning Screen - Involves 15 questions that test your figural reasoning. This test is strictly timed, 2.5 minutes per question. Make sure you accomplish this test in an environment free of distractions.

Reasoning Test

[Edit]

If you successfully complete the online questionnaire you’ll be invited to complete the Procter & Gamble Global Reasoning Test at an office location, or on campus during a company recruitment event.

This multiple-choice test lasts for 65 minutes and contains 40 multiple-choice questions. This test has three sections: (1) Numerical Reasoning, (2) Logic-based Reasoning, or (3) Figural Reasoning questions. A calculator and extra paper are provided.

As an example of Numerical Reasoning:

1. In 2001, a company marketed 730,000 units of its product. In 2001 its yearly volume was 50% of its volume for 2004. The 2004 volume represents how many units for each of the 365 days of 2004?

A. 5,000 units
B. 4,000 units
C. 2,000 units
D. 1,100 units
E. 1,000 units
Correct answer: B

As an example of Logic-based Reasoning:

2. Purchasing can have a significant effect on an organization’s total profit. However, the success of a purchasing function relies on competent buyers and a purchasing manager who employs systematic purchasing methods and implements technological advances. If an organization’s profitability is in jeopardy, the efficiency and skill of its purchasing function may determine whether it operates at a profit or at a loss. As such, the purchasing function bears a significant amount of the responsibility for an organization’s profit, and, whenever an organization strives to produce profit, it will expend the effort required to hire capable and qualified buyers as well as a knowledgeable, intelligent purchasing manager. From the information given above, it can be validly concluded that:

A. If an organization’s profitability is not in jeopardy then the competence of its purchasing function will not determine
whether it operates at a profit or at a loss.
B. There are at least some purchasing functions that are not responsible for a significant amount of an organization’s
profit.
C. A non-purchasing function will not bear significant responsibility for the profit of an organization.
D. An organization whose profitability is in jeopardy may depend on the efficiency and skill of its purchasing function to
determine whether it operates at a profit or at a loss.
Correct answer: D

Recommended preparation would be to answer sample GMAT questions under timed conditions. Work as fast and as accurately as you can. This test is not negatively graded, so DO guess if you need to, or if you are running out of time.

Note: The Reasoning Test replaces the P&G Problem Solving Test. If you have taken the Problem Solving Test in the past, you are still required to take the new Reasoning Test.

Interviews

[Edit]

If you successfully pass all the testing stages of the Procter & Gamble assessments, you'll be invited to an interview at an office or possibly on campus. Most interviews last 45 - 60 minutes and typically involve up to two senior leaders from the function you are applying to.

Most interviews are competency based and you should prepare for competency based questions about your academic and personal history.

Procter & Gamble are looking for evidence of what they call “Success Drivers” at the interview. These are specific core competencies that define how P&G people succeed in today's business environment. They are also how P&G measures performance in the Company.

Procter & Gamble "Success Drivers" fall into three categories:

The Power of P&G Minds - This is about your attitude to display an infinite curiosity, be eager to create with a healthy disregard for conventional thinking, to discover the world around you and your profession and form your idea of all this to then move your business forward.

Essentially, you need to show interviewers that you are willing to "think outside the box" and should show evidence of this if asked competency based questions about your past.

The Power of P&G People - Procter & Gamble want to establish a working environment where everybody feels free to contribute at their own best. You will need to show interviewers that you listen to other people's opinions and are prepared to keep an open mind to new ideas.

The Power of P&G Agility - Procter & Gamble are looking for potential employees who can jump from issue to issue quickly and decisively. You will need to show evidence of this in your interviews.

If you are successful in your first interview, you will be invited to a second (and possibly final) interview. For more information on the Application Process, please visit https://pg.sitebase.net/pg_images/taleo/stepsToSuccess.html.

Can somebody please tell me if the online questionnaire consiists of Competency based questions, like an aptitude test or something?

Redsuperted

I think it's more likely to be personality based - e.g. "What would you do in the following situation?" - a), b), c), or d).

sundave911

Yeah probably you are right. I have recieved a email from them, telling me that I need to clear the step 2 of their application process and it has a link for an online assessment. If those are the type of questions they will ask, then I feel it is too easy to get to the next round. Thank you very much for your input.

sodium608

I took the reasoning test and at the end the page said: "Thank you for your time and for considering Procter & Gamble as a potential employer."

Is that neutral, positive, negative?

stenacity

It's a neutral message. If you pass the online tests (i.e. Success Drivers Assessment and Reasoning Screen), you will be invited to take the written Reasoning Test (P&GMAT), either on your campus or at their offices.

stenacity

I've gotten an overwhelming number of emails from P&G applicants all over the world asking for tips and advice on the application process, but unfortunately I'm unable to reply to everyone. So, to all prospective applicants, before you drop me a line I highly recommend reading the information posted here (Application Process, Interview Questions, Graduate Schemes, etc.), as they give a pretty accurate picture of what to expect in the P&G global application process.

As for advice on what to do during the interviews, just relax, be confident and articulate, and demonstrate your passion and enthusiasm to work for P&G. Research on the company as much as you can, especially the all-important Purpose Values Principles (PVP) which form the backbone of every business decison. Beyond this, there is not much else you can do...if you are a "P&G person", it will show; if you are not, you won't be able to fake it after hours and hours of behavioural interviewing!

Good luck!

laurac

Hi there,

Thank you for giving us very valuable advice with regards to the P&G selection process. I would be grateful if you could answer the following question: Does the Reasoning Test include questions involving logical patterns, similar to those included within the online test that everbody has to go through prior to being invited for the Reasoning Test? Or is it purely numerical and verbal reasoning questions?

Thank you very much.

cool1kool

Thank you for uploading this... I have another question... how can you find out more about the position you are applying to. Ex: if I get selected for R&D, how would I find out more about what R&D department I'll be interviewing with on-site? I'm trying to prepare for an interview with them.

tirla

please can anyone tell me what happens after the interviews?
i had 4 interviews, but i was refused, can anyone tell me whether i can apply again or not? if not, can i apply in another country than the one i applied at? will the test still be valid? can i still apply for internships?

sweetypie

hi
I have taken my second step i.e success drivers online assessment test and eagerly waiting for the results. Could anybody know how long will they take to give the result.

thanks

koyunbaba

I was recently invited to the 2nd round interview. I felt like the first round was the most enjoyable interviews I have ever done. Will the 2nd round be more difficult or just more thorough? Also if I get similar questions from each interviewer can I use the same examples or is it better to use different examples that show the same skills? Thanks

cassidy.dillon

How well does one have to do on the Reasoning Screen (the 15 question online one) in order to progress?

I found it harder than I expected, and I may have missed 2-3...

renosingh

Hey Cassidy.Dillon

Did you get your results?
I am waiting for my Results for the step 2 thats the reasoning test. How much time does it take to get the results?
I thought it would be an instant process as its an online test!

Cheers!

Hello,

After passing the Reasoning test and the initial screening interview, I was asked to come to P&G office in Saudi Arabia for the final round of interviews, which would consist of three one-one 1 hour interviews. I was also told that these would be the final.

After 3 days from the final interviews, I received a phone call from an HR officer asking me to come next week for one more interview with the Director. When I asked her about the reason, she told me that the Director was not in the country at the time of the three interviews and that after the three interviewers met, they decided that they would like for me to have an interview with the director.

Has anyone been in such a situation? What do you think went on in my three interviews that made them want to interview me once more with their director? Is this a good or bad sign?

Thanks

jenny084

Hello all

I recently applied to the Assistant Brand Manager position on my country.
How much time does it take to get a response after completion of Step 2 (Reasoning Test)? If you didn't pass the test, will they let you know that you were not accepted?

Thanks!

FrozenArmor

Hi Jenny084,

Have you got any response from them?

I also applied for a position at P&G. I took the Reasoning test late September 2010. Before taking the test we were instructed to fill up SDS form at home which was submitted directly after the test.

The HR personnel who administered the test said that they will not tell the test takers whether they pass or fail the test. They will only inform candidates who are selected for the interview round 2-3 weeks after the test. Those who are not selected for the interview round will not be informed at all.

As I was curious, I sent email to the same HR personnel about my application status since there is no update on their online recruitment website as well. She replied that I passed the Reasoning test and my resume has been forwarded to the hiring manager. Also she mentioned that due to the large amount of applications, only shortlisted candidate will be notified.

However, until now I haven't heard anything from them and it has been 3 weeks. No call, email or status update on the website. I read somewhere that a candidate mentioned that when he was rejected, their application status on the website change to 'No longer being considered'. Mine is still 'Submission Complete' which is the same status after I completed online test. I guess my resume and my answer for SDS are not good enough.

ouzal

I passed the tests and a first interview, and I'm now invited to the final step of interviews,

the talent supply assistant told me that I may have 3 other interviews to pass, but I'm not sure if they are all going to be in one day, I also don't know if I'll face the same kind of questions at every one of them, and how much time will they need to take a final decision?.

Simosa

I took the online reasoning test about 5 days ago. Does anyone know how long it takes them to review your stuff and get back to you? Also, does everyone get invited to step 2 because you are told to take it immediately after your application?

mtlfernandes

Just thought I'd pass this along - the P&G Reasoning Test appears to have changed.

The sample tests I've seen are all in the style listed here, but I took the test today (United States if it helps) and it is no longer anything like the examples given here or the sample tests P&G provides. The test is now all about shapes. IE - what is the missing shape from the line of 6 or what is the missing shape from a square of 9 shapes, what would this shape look like inside out.... that kind of thing.

Just wanted to give any future testers a heads up. Hopefully I did well - some of those things are quite tricky. I guess we'll see if I hear anything back in the next month.

Darby.

Hi

I applied to P&G and ask for the assessment to be done later by email. I gave them the wrong email address by the time I changed it I did not get the assessment link. I have tried to do the assessment but can't.

Any help would be much appreciated.

monanabil

I applied to P& G in my country and I passed the reasoning test, but they told me the position is no longer available ,

I don't know how someone gained the position without interviewing all candidates?

LKruger

Does anybody know how much time one has got to complete the first online test after submitting the online application (if one passes this step)?

I would really like to find out to know how much time I have got to prepare for the tests.

Thanks for your help!!
