Operations

Operations is a general term that refers to the back office departments that support the front office staff. Examples include IT support, design and production, secretarial and numerous others.

Generally speaking, operations roles are less well paid than front office roles, however the hours will be predictable (a standard 9-5 is usual) and the work should generally be simple and stress free.

Operations staff are reasonably well paid in top firms. In the city, operations staff can expect to earn between £25,000 and £40,000 per annum. There may also be a token bonus at Christmas time.

There are many opportunities to progress in operations, particularly in specialist fields such as marketing.
