Lloyds TSB Interview Questions

Last year Lloyds TSB received applications from over 3,800 candidates for their two-year Graduate Programme. Only 102 of these were eventually hired.

Application Process

[Edit]

The application process for Lloyds TSB is as follows:

Online Application

[Edit]

The Lloyds TSB online application asks for general background information about candidates, and features several competency based questions.

Your application will be acknowledged by email within two days. If successful you will be invited to complete the online numerical reasoning aptitude test, and given a week to complete it.

Approximately half of all applications will be rejected. Last year 1,800 candidates were invited to the following numerical reasoning stage.

Online Numerical Reasoning Test

[Edit]

This is a 20 minute numerical reasoning test called PSL provided by a psychometric testing company called Kenexa through the Lloyds TSB website. It is actually called the Infinity Series Numerical Reasoning Test and gives each candidate a randomised sample of questions, minimising the risk that you will be able to prepare in advance or cheat.

Telephone Interview

[Edit]

The Lloyds TSB telephone interview is competency based and lasts for 20 minutes. You will need to demonstrate the following four key competencies:

  • Courage
  • Integrity and values
  • Communication
  • Understanding the bigger picture

You will be asked questions such as:

  • Tell me about a time when you introduced a new concept/idea at work (Courage)
  • Think of a time when you made a mistake, what did you do? (Integrity and Values)
    • What was the result?
    • What did you learn from this experience?
  • Tell me about a time when you have dealt with a difficult situation/a difficult customer at work (Communication)
  • Tell me about a time when you worked in a team (Understanding the bigger picture)
    • How did you delegate what each person had to do?

Candidates will usually be informed within 48-hours if they have been successfull after the telephone interview.

Assessment Centre

[Edit]

Last year 600 candidates were invited to a Lloyds TSBassessment centre.

This consists of:

Assessment Centres for Lloyds TSB graduate programmes are held from October to March at the firm's training centres in Solihull and Telford. Groups of between 12 and 24 candidates are invited for each assessment day which last for 24 hours.

Candidates must arrive at the assessment centre by 5pm and leave at 5pm the next day. Upon arrival candidates take a written numeracy test, are given some presentations about Lloyds TSB and then have an informal dinner with other graduate candidates, interviewers and current employees.

The whole of the next day is taken up with one-to-one interviews, role-plays, presentations, group exercises and ability tests.

Numerical Reasoning Test

This paper based PSL test (called the Advanced Series Numerical Reasoning Test) lasts for 35 minutes and is an extended version of the earlier online test. If is also provided by Kenexa and is used to double check candidates numerical ability and to confirm that they did not cheat during the online numerical test, which is not monitored.

The test evaluates a candidate's ability to solve problems and reason with complex numerical information, using graphs, charts and tables that document an organisation's financial status.
