IPO
An IPO, or Initial Public Offering, is where a private company decides for the first time to offer its shares to the general public, henceforth becoming a public company. It does this by offering its shares for purchase on a stock exchange. This is also known as a floatation.
Typically an investment bank will underwrite the IPO.
