A golden hello is a sum of cash, usually between £1,000 and £10,000, that is given to new employees as a bonus upon joining a firm. It acts as an incentive to applicants and helps new joiners relocate when they begin their jobs.
A golden hello bonus is typically conditional and will have to be repaid if you leave your employment within a certain time period (usually at least six months).
A golden hello may be paid as a lump sum to new employees upon joining a firm, as a lump sum after an agreed period of time has elapsed (for example, six months), or in installments during an agreed time frame. Some companies, such as Accenture, offer graduates a large golden hello in two installments, one smaller installment at the start of their graduate scheme, and one larger installment at the end.
