Fundamental research
Fundamental research
Fundamental research is the process of determining factual information about an investment. This contrasts with technical research, where the research is statistical and based on past performance and the performance of competitors.
In the context of an equity, examples of fundamental research include:
- Examining the financial statements
- Speaking to the company's board
- Analysing market share and competitors
- Strategic forecasting, e.g. determining likely mergers or acquisitions
