Formerly Anglia Polytechnic University, the institution developed from Cambridge School of Art which was opened by John Ruskin in 1858. Its status as a polytechnic institution means traditionally it has always focused on practical or vocational courses – with its faculties now divided into Arts, Law and Social Sciences; Education; Health and Social Care; and Science and Technology.
In July 2010, Anglia Ruskin University was rated 10th in the ‘Green League’ of UK universities by People and Planet. Anglia Ruskin has an extensive programme of postgraduate study across five faculties and all disciplines. The Cambridge campus is actually home to one of just five optometry schools in England. In addition to its several campuses, Anglia Ruskin is partnered with universities in Germany, Spain and France, which gives students in the Education faculty the chance to go on exchanges.
