The starting point for success
I enjoy the challenges and the variability of what I do at Accenture. I also enjoy working with brilliant people. So I couldn’t have had a better taste of what was to come than Boot Camp. While I went on it with an open mind, I thought that it’d be more like an aggressive 48-hour interview. But in reality, I really enjoyed the positive and motivational atmosphere, the enormous energy and the great activities that we did. The social aspect of it was also fantastic, and I made some lasting friendships out of it.
Boot Camp
I learnt a lot about myself, and how I’d deal with the working world. But I also found out loads about Accenture: the people, the culture and the way the firm works. There wasn’t a dull moment. You’re thrown together with people you don’t know – which is what happens on a live project. And because different teams have different dynamics, you end up learning a lot about how you interact – both personally and professionally. While Boot Camp isn’t an interview per se, it does allow you to stand out from the crowd in a way that you simply can’t do on a CV. And, everyone who attends Boot Camp is fast-tracked through the application process for the Analyst Consulting Group – which meant I started my permanent role as an Analyst not long after.
And now...
Right now I’m working on a project at Shell, building training and support materials for one of our projects. That project involved the building of a computer system to support the IT infrastructure for their petrol stations. To support that system, there had to be training – and that’s what I’m now involved in. This project, in particular, has brought home to me how important it is to be self-aware. You have to recognise that there are things you don’t know, so that you’re open to learning from those around you.
Entrepreneurial skills
Many entrepreneurs have great ideas but no business acumen, and this is the sort of knowledge you pick up at Accenture. You acquire incredible skills – across project management, business processes and recruitment – and they’re all essential if you’re to succeed in the business world. Yes, we’re paid well at Accenture, but for me the knowledge and skills I’m gaining are the biggest reward of all. You’re working for the best company, with the best people – and that’s the perfect starting point for success.
