Some advice just states the obvious. But to give the kind of advice that's going to make a real difference to your clients, you've got to listen critically, dig beneath the surface, challenge assumptions and be credible and confident enough to make suggestions right from the start. You've got to enjoy tough challenges, seek out opportunities and be ready to kickstart a career right at the heart of business.

Grant Thornton is one of the world’s leading audit, tax and advisory firms, with offices in over 100 countries. But we are much more than just accountants – and so are the people that work for us. We’re a complex, ambitious organisation, helping over 40,000 clients in the UK alone to improve their financial performance and manage risk through our specialised business advisory services.

As a trainee you’ll have the opportunity to join one of five business areas; audit, tax, actuarial, business risk services and recovery and reorganisation. You'll also have the opportunity for internal secondment to develop your skills across our business areas.

The graduates and interns that join us in 20 of our 27 UK offices each year become well-rewarded, well-rounded business advisors. They know they want a dynamic and challenging career. They love tough challenges, look for opportunities and really believe what they do matters. As such, they get variety and responsibility early on, and the experience of working on a huge range of clients of all shapes, sizes and across all sectors.

Our extensive client base ranges from media and entertainment to retail, technology, property and construction, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, as well as fast-growth companies such as biotech start-ups or online gaming ventures. We also help a number of high-net-worth individuals – you could find yourself advising entrepreneurs, sportspeople and celebrities. And with our strong international presence there are opportunities to work on global accounts and for secondments abroad.

We encourage you to take ownership and drive your own development from the outset, defining your own career path and growing our business and those of our clients at the same time. Our size and down-to-earth, supportive culture means that this is a place where your opinions matter. Asking questions and getting involved are as much a part of the skills you’ll need to kick-start a fast-track career at the heart of business, as the qualification you’ll gain.

The professional qualification is just one part of a comprehensive and ambitious package that stretches our trainees to fulfill their potential, and creates business advisors with a genuine sense of personal and professional agility that drives their career – and our business – forward, and keeps us at the forefront of global accountancy and consulting firms.

But don’t just take our word for all of this. We like people who think for themselves, so we thought we’d let our people speak for themselves. You can get an insight into life here by following our trainees on Twitter, where you’ll get real-time updates on the daily activities of Grant Thornton people across our business areas.
