Cadburys or Diageo???
Hey guys
I've recently been offered jobs on the Diageo (sales and marketing) and Cadburys (finance) scheme.
I've got only a few days to come to a decision, and was wondering if anyone had any opinions, or useful intel that could help me make a choice
At the moment my thoughts are I should go for Cadburys, because I get a CIMA at the end of the 3 year scheme (Diageo sales and marketing doesn't involve professional qualifications), because the other grad schemers + staff I met during Cadbury's two day assessment were my sort of people and would love to work with them.
On the other hand Diageo's senior staff were very impressive, and the company has an amazing reputation, and there's the added dimension of the kraft takeover to consider.....
Any thoughts??
Cadburys sounds like the way to go: would have thought the CIMA would outweigh the benefits of Diego's reputation.
I'd be quite worried about the job security repercussions of the takeover though. Would imagine finance would be the kind of area where synergies could be made with Kraft's UK operations. I'd suggest talking it over with Cadburys, but I guess it's too early for anyone to know how job losses will pan out. Tough choice!
Well I had a talk with people from Cadburys and they reckon my job is pretty secure at least for as long as Im on the grad scheme (3 years).
One of my main deciders is where my career could lead, does anyone know which function (Sales and marketing or finance) generally pays better later on in careers (5+ years experience)?? Also, would it be easier to diversify from sales and marketing to finance, or finance to sales and marketing?
I asked both companies this and they gave conflicting answers!
Gut instinct says to go with Cadburys. I think I'd like seeing that brand written on a CV !
I'd go for Cadbury's as well. If you are getting a CIMA at the end, you will not only gain an industry-widely sought qualification but you will also be more marketable with other companies.
I understand your concern re: job security but in my opinion, once you have Cadburys on your CV, you will be able to move within the FMCG industry pretty easily.
Hi there, that's a tough choice, i'd say it would be better if you wanted to get into finance to go with Cadburys and if you decide at a later date to change to marketing, i'd say with 3 years at Cadburys under your belt it would be easy enough.
But i have a telephone interview with Diageo in a few days and was wondering what it was like...the structure/questions etc?
Many Thanks, and hope you make the right decision!:)
The telephone interview I had with Diageo was bog standard competency based. Just remember to prepare some examples of times when you've shown judgement, drive, faced a tough situation, lead a team, been part of a team etc etc
I used the SOAR model (situation, objective, action, result) method for most of my answers, but the interview was pretty short so dont worry too much about following a structure!
Best of luck :)
Hi there, thanks for the advice. What decision did you end up making?
Also can i ask you what your assessment day for Diageo was like and what it entailed, i have one this week?
Thanks :)
Hi
Congrats on getting through the telephone interview! I eventually went for Cadburys although it was a tough choice and Id happily work for Diageo any day
Are you going for sales and marketing? Their assessment differs depending on function. Sales and marketing involved a competency interview, role play, group exercise with presentation, solo presentation, and a rather nice buffet lunch in their 6th floor bar :)
Overall the assessment was fairly relaxed and the staff certainy made me feel at home. They ask the occasional awkward question but they do it in a far nicer way than some others I've been to so I never felt out of my depth at any point. Watch out for time during your presentation as you dont really have enough to read through the case book, make a decision, and do a presentation ona flip chart. Remember to try and build a good rapport with your interviewer during your role play as they pick up on things like how you get on with them, how you approach the problem in a diplomatic way etc.
If you want more detailed advice feel free to message me; I sent a guy a lengthy reply a while back regarding this so can just copy and paste it :)
Hey,
thanks so much for replying, glad it doesn't sound too intimidating, it is my first assessment day so i am pretty nervous. Yeh that would be brilliant if you could send me the more detailed version of the day so i can get a better idea about it.
Yeah both companies are good to work for so that was a difficult choice you had to make, but working for either will give you great benefits and opportunites (wish i was in your boat :) )
Many Thanks again :)
Hi I would like to ask you a few questions about Diageo's assessment centre. I will attend it the 29th of April. Can I email you my questions ??
It woud be really helpful!
Thank you.
Gianni
Hi!
Anybody knows something about assesment centre Diageo? Maybe you have already taken part in it. Please share your advises. What do they ask to do?
If you can help me - i would really appreciate it. THANK YOU!
Hiya, I've been invited to the assessment centre for the Sales and Marketing role next Monday...excited and a little nerves at the same time, as it's my first experiance of an assessment centre. It would be really good to have a bit more insight in to the structure of the day and the role play/ case book etc.
Would be gratefull for any info you can give, would really help me to prep for it :0)
Hi,
Im aware this was a long time ago (hope your jobs going well!), i have an assessment centre for Diageo in a few weeks and was wondering if you could give me any more advice on what it involved? its Global supply so im sure they will be different in some aspects but any help would be great.
Thanks.

Hey y'all, i've been going through the comments looking for info on the senior management interview. I went through the phone interview and the assessment center, and my final interview - the senior management interview - is next week. Does anyone have any advice or info on that, please??? I'm from Kenya so my programme is the Pan African Early Career Programme - Global Supply.
Anyone, please!!
I am just preparing for the telephone interview and I was wondering what were the exact questions you had? Do they actually ask you the same stuff as they did in the on line application? I plan on using the STAR model when they call me. however I would rather know what they are going to ask, just to make sure.... judgement, drive, faced a tough situation, head a team, been part of a team......any other questions? I would be great to find out...How is your jobs going so far? You are probably going to be way into your role by now...How did it turned out for you?

Cadburys sounds like the way to go: would have thought the CIMA would outweigh the benefits of the difference in reputation.
I'd be quite worried about the job security repercussions of the takeover though. I'd imagine finance would be the kind of area where synergies could be made with Kraft's UK operations. I'd suggest talking it over with Cadburys, but I guess it's too early for anyone to know how it job losses will pan out. Tough choice!
