RBS GROUP OFFERS

what-a-banker

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else on here has received (and accepted) an offer from RBS to start on any of the graduate schemes in September 2010?

what-a-banker

No one?!?!?

LilShorty

Think theres a few people mentioned it in one of the rbs telephone interview threads (noobs) so maybe give them a poke on a private message. Cant remember who though ....

what-a-banker

Cheers LilShorty. I've just had a look and all the people who have received offers on that thread actually received offers for last year's graduate intake. Cheers all the same though. Quite baffling that for the number of people on here there haven't been any replies from people starting with RBS in 2010! Oh well, sure I'll meet everyone soon.

I've got an offer for Technology and I'll accept. There're quite a few facebook groups out there already, maybe you want to look them up first.

By the way, what about the screeing checks? I haven't provided them with any references, I guess ...have they asked you yet?

Cheers

I had a final assessment centre on February 26th, but i am still awaiting a call/email regarding the offer/rejection. I applied for GBM Technology.

Any ideas how long does RBS take to let us know of the results? Is it a positive sign that today has been the third working day after the AC and still no call? Though I was told that it might take this whole week, but honestly they had been a lot quicker before, hence a bit skeptical.

Cheers!

McFinance

Hey what-a-banker,

Saw this thread and thought id post, i have an offer for Finance with RBS starting in September based at Gogarburn offices. Getting excited about starting now so hoping this pre screening goes smoothly!

McFinance

SoulB,

They phoned me the next day, however i know of a couple others who got calls 4/5 days later. Generally from what ive heard if all the assesors scored you highly then you would be contacted fairly sharply, what may happen is that you dont score so well in one area so they need to get together to discuss whether a. they want to take you on or b. you meet their predetermined benchmark. This i presume is why they say you may not hear for a week. It may also just be that the HR manager has lots on and hasnt had a chance to make the phonecalls.

I wouldnt write off your chance until you hear something.

soulB

All the best McFinance,

Is it possible for you to tell me how long RBS took to offer you this position after the final AC? I gave the final AC for GBM Technology last friday and still no response.

Thanks!

LilShorty

I mentioned in another thread that ive heard RBS laid off a bunch of HR staff over the christmas break, so they may be taking longer to do things than normal.

Lil.x

soulB

Oh just saw your message , Thanks McFinance!

soulB

 Hi Lil.x,

If it is true that means RBS is still not in a very good position. But then doesn't make sense in recruiting more people, isn't it?

SoulB

LilShorty

Well they still arent in a good position but thats to be expected, itll take a while longer to return to a solid position but they are still streamlining the business and HR is a support function - they had to make cuts to decrease their spending - there was no way around it, and it doesnt make sense to not recruit new talent as itll leave skill gaps in future years. Been well documented that its a foolish thing to do to just stop recruiting, so thats why theyve cut back the recruitment but not stopped. Think theyre most recent losses were 3.6bn for last year, but they expect a return to profitability next year, probably the best time to recruit people to generate value.

Nah,

I'm joining a large UK company to do their finance programme.

Was trying to get into the banks but none worked out :(

Anyone got their pre-employment screening emaill/letter through yet?
Regards

Aj

Nope. Have you?

stags4life87

Not yet :( I was told that they would start in March though :( when did they last make contact with you?

messy17

Hi,

How long did RBS take to get back to you after submitting the online test?

what-a-banker

The last time I spoke to them was when I made a follow up call after I had sent back my signed contract. During that call they advised me they probably wouldn't start my pre-screening till as late as May.

what-a-banker

Anyone else with RBS offers on Wikijob yet?

McFinance

Hey guys,

Has anyone heard anything about when the pre employment checks may start? I was told March but wouldnt be surprised if it was May. Haven't heard anything since i returned my contract.

Was also told there would be some get together around april or something for group side with current grads and professional bodies or something - anyone know anything else about this? Would rather it want in May as i have exams then :(

More specifically, do you think degree certificates (with dates on) will suffice as proof of activity rather than needing the letter from university. Kinda difficult to get a letter addressed to RBS as my uni provides only standard letters. :(

and does anyone think i'll have to provide payslips etc for summer jobs that I've done for proof of activity or will degree certificates suffice?

McFinance

Been thinking about starting up a group side facebook group, maybe try to get know people before we start!

The ones out there at the moment are bit specific.

what-a-banker

Yeah do it mate, I'll join! :-)

RoTi

Hey,

I've applied for European Off-cycle Internship GBM Markets.

I would like to know if it is the same procedure for internships as for graduate scheme?

Anyone applied to it?

Thx.

princetongirl

what-a-banker

I've also got an offer to start in Sep 2010 on the Finance programme in Edinburgh.

I haven't heard from anyone else with an offer on the scheme.

I also haven't heard anything from RBS since early February when they sent the email regarding pre-employment checks etc.

What programme are you joining? And is it London or Edinburgh?

Rachel2188

Did your contract not say where you would be based? I'm sure mine did.

I'll need to move through to Edinburgh so was hoping to find other people who would have to relocate. I live about two hours away.

I can't wait to start either - I have no patience!

stags4life87

what-a-banker,

I'm working too! My job is ok and I'm a valued member of my organisation... im not sure how they will feel about me leaving though :( Are you concerned about that at all?

Regards

McFinance

Hi Rachel!!!

I've starting with Group Finance as well this year!!! Having to relocate too but it's not as far for me!!! One of the guys at my final AC who applied for Edinburgh, I found out got an
offer too, so there are others out there!!! :)

With regards the contract, mine said I would be based in Edinburgh for all intents and purposes but you would be expected to locate elsewhere if your position required it. I'm still thinking may have to go to London just in case they say I'm starting there.

They def said there would be a meet and greet, and from speaking to people who are on the programmes, in past it's been at end of April. Be good chance to work out who all is relocating etc and who everyone is!

Can't wait to start working!!

bankingBag

hey guys,
I think this might sound like strange but what was the time gap between when you had your telephone interview and when they asked you to come in for an Assesment centre. I am particularly interested with those whose attended the Manufacturing and Leadership Program but other inputs would be appreciated

what-a-banker

It took them a week to get back to me with my offer, so don't worry too much soulB

Aj

Anyone else got the PES email today? It looks pretty straight forward; doesn't it? Those of you who think you will be based at Edinburgh; please re-read the contract carefully. The office in Edinburgh is used in the contract only for reference/administrative purposes. I applied from London; all my interviews were in London and live in London; still my contract stated the office in Edinburgh. It is likely that a significant amount of new recruits will be based in London.

I personally would not want to move away from London and the endless opportunities here. I am sure we will find out before June. I am interning with GS from end of June to 3rd September; so if it is after June and if I have to relocate; than I will be in trouble. Just in case, I have to move to Edinburgh; is there anyone else who is interested in renting a place together?

Aj

Rachel2188

Hi McFinance

I'm so happy to finally know someone else starting the Finance programme and you'll be based in Edinburgh too. :) So where do you live just now? I'm in Paisley. Are you thinking of renting or buying somewhere? So when was your final AC? Mines was back in November in London - you weren't there by any chance?

I haven't heard about this meet and greet but hope it's soon.

I just can't wait to begin as I've just finished up work and trying to find something to keep me going while I have a holiday in June isn't working too well.

stags4life87

Hi Aj

Yea I got my PES email too, looks easy enough! Just can't send it until 1st May... Are you sending your documents through the post or going into a branch to get them faxed through? I won't be in Edinburgh or i'd definatly be interested in getting a place!

Hi everyone,

Did any of you have an assessment centre at Gogar Mount House in Edinburgh? I've apparently got mine there next week, but I've looked it up on google maps and it's a big country house in the middle of nowhere...just trying to make sure I've got the right place!

Thanks!

stags4life87

Hi ljd767,

Yes I had mine there, I made the error of going to the main RBS HQ but don't do that. If you keep driving past the enterance of the HQ (about 1/2 mile) there is an long driveway to this big country house and that is the right place! It seems to be a place that RBS use to conduct these things.

LilShorty

Yes Gogar Mount House is a big country house type thing, it's actually really close to the HQ at Gogarburn! Just over the golf course. If you get a taxi make sure the driver knows exactly where it is you are going. I would advise taking some google map pictures. Map, and satelite.

It isn't too far from HQ anyway - would be a ten minute walk.

Enjoy the experience though, Gogar Mount House is beautiful and very comfortable place to have an assessment centre! Definitly have the soup at lunch if it's on offer. Was brilliant!

username234

Thank you! Just wanted to be sure before I go there since I couldn't find anything mentioned about RBS owning it elsewhere. I will keep the advice about the soup in mind!

stags4life87

The soup looked good... but I didnt dare try it as I had a white shirt on.... the sandwiches were good though.... don't risk staining your clothes with soup!! My advice :P

username234

Probably a better idea, I'm a notoriously messy eater! Thank you much for the food advice :-D

Aj

Hey Matthew,

I live in London; so I will just go to Bishopsgate Office. If I struggle with time; than I may even nip into my local Natwest branch....... Everything is a bit iffy right now; so lets see if I end up being based at Edinburgh or any other City. If I do; hopefully there will be many like me who will be looking for places or people to live with.
Good luck with the vetting.

Aj

messy17

Hello, RBS have sent me an email saying I have met their minimum requirements and will get back to me shortly. Do you know how long they take? It is April now, how loate do they run their recruitment procedure for graduates?

username234

It seems like they've gotten back to me after each step within 2 or 3 days...not super quick but they don't make you wait for ages either.

bankingBag

Hi Messy17,
which scheme did you apply for? I applied for the Manufacturing and leadership program, had my phone interview and got the message I have meet their minimum requirement..... but have not heard from them in over 3 weeks?

@lJD767 which scheme did you apply for? and when is you A/C
thanks for your replies :)

username234

I applied for Group Sourcing and Vendor Management, had my phone interview yesterday and got the call today inviting me to an assessment centre, which is next Thursday.

bankingBag

Hi Ljd767
Congrats guess somethings gone wrong for me then. I was told by my interviewer that I would initiatly recieve a vague email that basically said I meet their minimum requirement but then get invited for the Assesment centre. i havent heard from them since :( I even sent a mail to the contact group through their in house messaging system and they said they were still conducting phone interviews but would get back to me as soon as they can. I had my phone interview on the 1st of match. but the deadline expired on the 31st of match so I am not too sure on how they decided to proceed yet.

do you know if the A/C is for both programs(Manufacturing and Leadership/Vendor Position) combined or just for the Vendor position?

anyway goodluck with your A/C and pls keep us posted on how it went.

thanks

djVix

well if they have hired you LOT why have they extended their deadline for all the programs i was trying to finish mine 3 days back when i noticed the deadlines have been pushed back. Are they going to hire more should i complete my application ? or not bother ?
