has anyone been invited to the telephone interview for their graduate leadership programme?

it seems that there is no information on this in this forum at all

kito

I got one on Monday 12th. Trying to put some stuff together for it now. I reckon I'll be one of the first cos once i'd made it through the online tests the "arrange telephone interview" section of their site hadn't even been made yet! I'm pretty nervous, first one. Any advice would be ace. What sector you applied to do? Im in for HR.

briandp

when i passed all 3 online tests, the earliest time slot is 13th. my interview is on 16th. don't really know how to prepare for it. they sent me an email saying it's competency based but wont disclose the actual competencies they are testing on. i've applied to Global Leadership Programme - Finance.

there are some stuff on this website in the section of investment banking about lloyds interviews. they are for last yr. not sure whether they would still be useful.

would you be able to let me know the questions they ask in your interview when it's done please?

good luck with ur interview!!!

kito

yeh i'll do what i can, 50 mins is a long time though! On this site it said 102/3800 applicants made it last year, thats less than 3% so i wont hold my breath, i'd be suprised if they take on as many this year too.

good luck with yours too mate, i'll keep you posted.

briandp

thanks. 102/3800? where did you see that?

ramram

Hi , i have just done my verbal test, tonight. When did you guys get your interview bookin request, is it automated? i,e hours/days. Thanks

kito

@ ramram After completing the verbal one it was a matter of hours (maybe minutes) as the tests must be automatically marked.

@briandp http://www.wikijob.co.uk/wiki/lloyds-tsb-interview-questions Quite a worrying figure, must be some talent out there.

What uni did you guys go to?!

plintveld

Hi

I've got my telephone interview on Monday 12th as well but I'm applying for corporate markets. I expect it will be standard competency based questions, career motivation, commercial awareness etc. etc. I'll try and post some tips after the interview.

Good luck!

abcd76

Hi guys,

I too have a telephone interview on the 15th for the finance program. I've been reading on the gradaute website and they seem to emphasise three key competencies:
-Leadership
-commercial awareness
-motivation for applying to lloyds group

They will probably test more competencies, but its a start!
Any1 that has already had an interview, your experience would by much appreciated :)

Thanks & Goodluck!!!

briandp

thanks plintveld and top_cat87. any tips would be great.

How come there is hardly anything for Lloyds Banking Group's first round interview on widijob? I thought there would have been something from people applied last yr.

There is not too much infomation for finance programme on lloyds's graduate career website either.

briandp

what are the competencies they test in the interview? anyone knows?

In the email they sent me to confirm my interview they said they wouldn't disclose the list of competencies this time.

ralphy

Not sure what the competencies are this year, but last year they were given in advance on the graduate website. Commercial awareness, leadership, overcoming adversity, working in a team-conflict resolution etc..

Have a good answer for 'Why Lloyds Banking Group,' or 'why financial services industry.' They will probably ask you something about your degree and choices you have made throughout your academic life.

Be confident and don't waffle even if they are silent on the other end- make your point concisely and follow it through to a conclusion- remember to link the example you a giving for a competency back to the original question.

Last year there were initially just under 10,000 applicants for the Lloyds TSB side, for around 104 places. It's a great scheme though so really give it your all.

Good Luck!

abcd76

ralphy- thanks alot for your input, are you currently on the grad scheme?

kito and plintveld- goodluck with your interview guys! any advise would be great because i have an interview on the 15th!

kito

cheers bro, doing some last minute prep for it now. Had an interview for addleshaw goddard on fri so i reckon ive got some good practise backed up. Gonna have about a hundred documents open when that phone rings tmoz too. Good luck all, i'll keep you posted.

abcd76

kito and plintveld - Hi guys, how was the interview? I have one coming up soon and am really nervous, any advice would be much appreciated.

thanks!

shock187

Hi guys,

I have my interview on the 14th (Tomorrow!)
Was just wondering how the interview went, what kind of questions they asked and the best way for me to prepare because they were very brief in their email!

Cheers

abcd76

shock187- I have my interview tomorrow, do you have any advice for me? i would be very grateful!

Thanks!

K_E_D

Hey got my interview next thursday, anyone have any advice? Did they last 50 mins? What % was competence based?

Thanks so much!

abcd76

Hi guys

I had my interview on thursday morning and would like to share my experience. The interviewer was not able to complete the interview because they had technical problems, the phone kept getting cut off, so I only had half an interview!lol Anyway the questions they asked were-

Why Lloyds? Why this particular scheme? Why a leadership scheme? What problems is lloyds facing at present? How do you feel about a customer facing role and how does it fit in with your expectations of the scheme? How do you feel about relocating and how does it fit in with your expectations of the scheme?

I didnt get on to any competency based questions because of the technical problem. I'm still waiting to complete the rest of my interview!

Anyway hope it helps!

kito

yeh pretty much the same as mine man, + some competencies. I found it more difficult than i thought because the lady interviewing me was such a cretin though. she asked "what problems is lloyds facing at the moment" i gave her about 5/6 answers, then she didnt even blink and said "how does this affect lloyds?"
Each one has a different effect! Clearly just reading off a sheet of paper. It'd be good for someone that actually knows about the firm to do the interviews, i guess that'd be too expensive.

Anyways, best of luck to you all, keep this thread updated with any successes/failures/thoughts.

k

briandp

thanks top_cat87 and kito. I had to reschedule my interview to this weds due to time clashes.

what kind of competency questions did they ask? team work, solving problems, leadership?

briandp

another question,
Did they ask
What problems is lloyds facing at present? and how do they affect Lloyds?
or
What problems is the industry facing at present? and how do they affect Lloyds?

plintveld

Hi,

Had mine last week, it was tougher than I thought it would be! Not that confident I'm going to get through to be honest. The interviewer was nice although I agree completely with kito about the interviewer not really listening to the answers I gave and just reading her follow up questions off a sheet of paper! Mine lasted just over 50 mins and she said they ask the same questions to everyone. I cant really remember each specific question the main subjects were:

-About lloyds itself, the issues its facing, what the banking industry as a whole is doing, how lloyds compares, its competitors and how they are doing, what are the challenges for the future. This is the area I think I struggled on the most because even though I do know a lot about the current issues, she really probed to get as much info out as possible and to go into more depth.

-The graduate programme, why you chose it specifically, what lloyds can provide specifically, what your expectations are, the challenges you will face, where you see yourself in the future, why you would be a good candidate, what you think about a customer facing role.

-Examples of when you; championed a new idea, faced a big challenge, organised something, worked in a team.

Thats all I can remember really, they ask the question and then probe you with another 3 or 4. Normally ask you the situation, then ask you what challenges you faced, then ask about the outcome... that sort of thing.

At the end be prepared with some questions to ask the interviewer. I asked a couple of questions specifically about the programme but she didn't seem to know that much!

And thats it, good luck to everyone who's about to have the interview!

@briandp They asked about what issues Lloyds AND the industry as a whole were facing and how both affect lloyds.

plintveld

Well I just got an email from Lloyds saying I'm through to the assessment centre! Has anyone else heard back? It tells you to book a date/time online but it looks like they haven't posted the times up yet. All I know is that it's at their "Management Development Centre in Solihull".

briandp

thanks plintveld. and congrats.
have they started AC already? thought you will have to wait at least till Nov

abcd76

plintveld - congratulations on getting through! Is the assessment day an over night one? or just one day?

kito

high five, i'll be seeing you there! Only problem is that im in venice and barcelona from oct 31st to nov 9th. Gonna have to cut some holiday short!

@topcat, its from 0930-1630 so just a one day thing.

Best of luck to all.

plintveld

congrats kito on getting through! how did you find out that it's 0930-1630? For me it's still not showing any dates/times when I click on the link to book a slot. Have you had any more info on what we will have to do on the day?

kito

it was on the booking page, same as for the telephone interview. Still no word on the details though. Anyone else made it? How many attend each day?!

lou2503

Ive just had an email saying im through to the assessment centre! Woop! Not sure which one to attend yet though!

kito
drakaliev

Hey mate,

I've made it to the telephone interview as well, but I have the same problem. When I click on the page for booking a date for the interview I've got only a black page with "Schedule" at the top. Any progress with your interview (booking) ??????

anfgrad2009

hey drakaliev

same thing happened to me but after a few days some times appeared not to worry!

You've probably got one sorted though as your post was a while ago.

Many thanks to Plintveld for the info on the interview, very much appreciated!!

messierchippy

Hey All,

I had my phone interview with the Lloyds Banking Group just now.

I hope I passed (*Praying to God and Everything Holy).

It lasted over an hour.

I will let you know what happens.

Cheers,

messierchippy

lol

hey....

I have my phone interview coming up soon....can you please tell me what questions they asked you???

Thanks

drakaliev

Hey there,

I've just had my interview. Let me give you some details on how it went:

I was asked exactly the same questions as @wongus had. But I was not surprise as the lady told me in the beginning that they are asking the same questions everyone because of equal opportunity policies of the bank. So I would advise you, when preparing for this particular interview, just sit and write your answer to the above questions and you will nail it for sure.

As I mentioned I've applied for the Corporate Markets Graduate Programme. The interview went very well I think and lasted exactly 1h. The interviewer was very nice and kept the conversation but numerous follow ups to the above questions. The interview was more or less 30 min on company/industry awareness and 30 min after that on competency based questions. So be prepared to speak not only about Lloyds itself and its divisions and your motivation for applying the Corporate Markets or Finance or ... , but also research Lloyds' main competitors and facts about the future challenges that Lloyds and the whole industry can face in general.

Wish you luck and hopefully I made it through. The lady said I should expect an answer in the next few days so fingers crossed :).

Cheers guys.

Right just had my interview, it was tougher than expected. I think if i didnt work for the group in the past i would have struggled slightly. I will list the questions, but they really probe you on your responses, so be preapared to ellaborate on everything and make sure you can talk about the banking industry confidently.

Why Lloyds Banking?

Why Finance?

What issues are affecting Lloyds right now?

What is banking group as a whole doing now and how does Lloyds compare?

Challenges in the future?

Where I see myself in the future?

Why would I be a good candidate?

What does Lloyds offer specifically?

How do you feel about facing customers?

How do you feel about relocation?

When I championed a new idea?

When I faced a big challenge?

When I organised something?

Good luck. Hope this helps, im sure it will.

qwerty11

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone for the tips. Does anyone know where I can find information about the questions about the problems Lloyds will be facing in the future, and about what Lloyds is doing and its competitors etc.?

Cheers

messierchippy

Hey Tsvetan,

Have you hear back yet from Lloyds?

Cheers,

salamander_fire

Hi,

Just took a telephone interview with Lloyds, lasted the entire 50 minutes, where the first half an hour, I was grilled about Lloyds, the UK banking sector, challenges, changes, and the other usual questions that have been posted on this website.

Can someone tell me if the interviewer interrupted you once every now and then and asking specific questions? Is that normal, or was it just me?

Thanks,

Arvind

rorybw

Hi salamader_fire,

I literally just had mine too. Lasted exactly 50 mins and didn't do as well as I thought on the UK banking sector. Had done a lot of preparation, but the interviewers questions always seemed to be the same and I would often run out of ideas! We'll see. My interviewer did not once interrupt but I know from others that it is normal for them to do so!

2 days to wait!

naba56

Hi guys.

I have my interview coming up fairly soon for the General Management Programme. Has anyone had interviews for it yet?? If so would be really helpful to know what sort of questions they asked. I'm quite nervous about it so any sort of advice would really help!

Cheers

Cindyy

Hi all,

Does somebody know "What does Lloyds offer specifically?"
Could you give me some tips, please?

Thanks a lot.
