BBC Vision Talent Pool
Hi,
I have my assessment centre for the BBC Vision Talent Pool next week and I was just wondering if anyone else on here has got an interview or is an ex talent pool-er with any tips? I've had an interview with the BBC before, so I know I can expect a grilling!
Hi Bodger,
I got my email last thurday (18th). I think it depends on what region you applied for and perhaps what role (runner or PMA). Amongst the job info, it says they are interviewing until the 19th of March. I applied for London, but if you applied for one of the other regions, then I just dont think they have notified the candidates yet as they are interviewing later. Or else just email HR at careers@bbchrdirect.com
Hi Umbongo!
I also have my interview etc this week (Thurs 4th March) and was wondering if you had found out anymore information about the day itself? As there certainly seems to be a lack of information on all of the student forums!
Quite scary isn't it....
I had an interview for an advertising agency and was sadly rejected at the 2nd phase so I am hoping the Beeb's one is not so gruelling!!
When is yours? Have you been doing the practice numerical tests?
x
@floridalovebug
I know what you mean, there is hardly any info out there, thats why I thought I start this topic. I've just been preparing for it like any other interview and just researching the role/ company, having prepared answers to common questions etc. I love the bit in the FAQs section where it states that you dont have to prepare anything in advance for the assessment centre!!!
Maths isn't my strong point but I've just bee doing practice tests and using guide books. Do you think it will be mainly data interpretation like shldirect.com seems to suggest?
My assessment is on tuesday, and my biggest challenge for getting this job is just being able to attend, as I have spectacularly managed to crack my ribs and develop a chest infection over the course of this weekend! I think I'll just be happy if I make it there now!
Yeah, Ive been doing the same really but that maths test is really getting to me! I am shockingly bad at maths and am struggling with the tests so it will be a stroke of luck if I did get through!
I can't believe all that has happened to you and its on Tuesday! Just make sure you get lots of rest and I am sure you will be fine!
Have you applied for PMA too then?
hi,
i also have my interview next week as well, so nervous for it, and not sure how to prepare really.... not much information is given, like how long will individual interviews last? I wonder what the group excercise will be about.
Hello guys,
Can I just confirm you all went for the PMA job and not the runner positions in London? I applied for the runners and haven't heard back at all! My friend went for the PMA but got a rejection letter already so I don't know whether I should keep waiting or ring them up and check they didn't forget me.
And good luck for your interviews, whatever they're for! :)
Hi loulou and Epiq!
@ loulou
Well I should imagine that the interview will last around 40 minutes as that usually how long these types of interviews last. Gruelling I know! That flies by though when you're in the room babbling away! Have you found as well that on shldirect.com the same test comes up? Or am I being a little bit dumb...? I am not too sure how to get more practice!!
@ Epiq
Hello! Well I would give them a ring as they are really helpful when you call and I am sure they will help you out. I have my interview for PMA Londond and I assume the other have too!
x
Hi everybody
I've got an interview at Birmingham on Thursday. I've been looking around online for anything related about the interview/assessment and found this.
I'm not a nervous person but this is really testing my nerves. I don't really know what to expect at all, the info is a little vague.
Im going into the Birmingham tomorrow to have a coffee with a friend who directs Inside Out - Midlands for some inside tips/advice.
For the Runners job it states the only test will be the 'Inductive/Diagrammatical Reasoning test" is there more the the PMA interview then?
Good luck everybody :)
@floridalovebug and eqip
Yeah, I applied for PMA and around this time tomorrow it will be over, thank god. I dont think my nerves can stand any more!
Good luck all X
I rung the BBC today as suggested by you guys, and it turns out the Runners positions for London haven't been shortlisted yet, so there's still hope for all those who haven't heard back yet =) Apparently they had a lot more applications than expected! He also said we may hear back sometime this week, but he didn't specifically confirm as definite that so don't hold me to it!
You must let me know what the interviews are like :)
See Epiq now you can rest a little!
Yes guys, it would be AMAZING if you could let us know what to expect as I am going out of my mind a little.
I came over my next obstacle today, turns out that you have to have graduated to apply for the PMA role but I am still in my final year....My tutor had told me that I could defer my placement until I finish (which would only be 2 months later anyway) but on the website it is only applicable for runners :S:S. I am just going to go anyway and try my best and see what they can do!!
Do you think they would just reject me outright because of this??
yes i have applied for the PMA role as well! seems like there is going to be so many people in the day, and in general so many people have applied as they had 5days of interviewing. Well i guess we'll find out soon!. I wonder how many people they will eventually employ... as theres so many people being interview.
good luck everyone, its nearly time
@ loulou
So when is yours then luvvy? Are you going for the London one too?
@umbongo
Hay! I hope today went well for you and that you actually made it in!! Let me know how it went (mainly the maths test - like how long etc) !!
x
yea mines on thursday and for the london pma, not long now
umbongo, how did yours go today?, hope i went well for you :-D
So has anybody had their interviews/assessments yet?
There is a bit more info here and on the links to the right.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/english-regions/application-tips.shtml#
Would be good to hear from somebody that has completed their interview/assessment, as mine is tomorrow (Thursday)
Hi!
Thanks for that! I'll have a look when I'm at my computer later!
What time is yours tomorrow? I'm in the afternoon so have all the morning to wait and cry!
I still can't get my head around th maths...oops. Oh well I guess its all about experience!
Umbongo (above) had one on Tuesday but he hasn't been on since :s. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing!
Anyway best of luck to you all! Maybe see you tomorrow to crack the group problem!
X
I've been preparing questions and answers all week and really knuckled down today doing mind maps and other things to really embed it into my head so I don't freeze or mess up.
I'm at 12:30 tomorrow but at Birmingham, so wont get to see you.
I wish you the best of luck, I'm sure we'll be on here to share experiences tomorrow evening though.
Si
Hey guys, I have my interview etc. in 2 weeks for the runner role.
Does anyone actually know how many people will be successful?
I'm assuming there will be a lot of people there.
Am curious to hear back from those of you who went today!
Hi Steg!
I had mine today and it went fine! They're really lovely there and it is quite informal but just make sure you have prepared whatever they've asked you to prepare and be confident!
Therell be a lot of people going for the runner roles so just try to stand out and show you have a great work ethic!
Good luck!!
Mine was today too went well though.
The group task was interesting, and the Diagrammatical Reasoning test (runners task) was not to difficult either.
The interview its self flew by and was very engaging, and involvement from the interviewers. If your unsure of any question or not sure the angle they are after just ask and they will explain, which ultimately helps in answering the whole question.
I'd say just be your self and relax.
Oh, congratulations! I haven't got an email yet so I guess the hope is dying/dead for me... alas, I shall give it a go next year, but hope it goes really well for you :) I shall still be following this thread with eager eyes!
Edit: Confirmed by email today that I didn't get in. Oh well! Better luck to you all :)
Hey everyone,
Been a bit absent on here of late, trying to get over my chest problems, but much better now. How did everyone find the interviews? Does anyone know how long they'll take to tell us if we are successful/unsuccessful?
That's a good question, umbongo.
Also, how long were your interviews?
and did they talk about scenarios, or was it like a basic interview?
Mine's not for a while and I'm getting excited.
Also, I don't know what to wear, ugh =]
Hi everybody...
The interview days for the Runners pool are broken down as follows;
Group task scenario: 45mins
Inductive Reasoning test: 20mins
Actual interviews (3 main questions asked) 20-30minutes
There is time before each part for a drink etc and they also take your picture.
The group task was interesting, it was a scenario that your groups plane had crashed in the desert and you had to decide as a group 5 items from a list to take.
The diagrammatical reasoning test is average, I'd say don't spend to much time on one question as there are 40 of them, if you don't know the answer then don't guess randomly.
The interviews were very informal and relaxed, I had two very nice people; a talent manager and a productions manager. I imagine interview questions will vary between each group? Just know for certain what you put on your application as its in their hand throughout the whole interview.
Any questions give us a shout..... I'm still waiting back, it can take up to 2 weeks to hear back from them, I have my fingers crossed and poised at every phone call and e-mail....
Ah, awesome info, thanks!
Yeah, I thought they would have our applications handy, will have to re-read that because I filled it in quite a while ago and probably waffled on a bit about all sorts.
Do you reckon they'll wait for all the interviews etc. to be done before they phone you or start filling positions straight away? In that case you'd have to wait ages =[
Good luck, anyway =]
@stegosaurus
I'm hope the info will come in handy, I came onto this post to hopefully get an idea before I went to my interview, but now I've been I'll share my experiences.
The interviews for Birmingham were held over 2 days over 4 session with a total of 32 people. I guess it will take some time to narrow it down and inform people, it states on the application you'll hear from them before the end of March.....that could mean 30th March.
I'll post back if I hear any more news, I think my fingers are actually fused together now they have been crossed for so long ;)
Si
Oh and one other thing for the people going for the Runners Pool I found this link with more example and test questions for the Inductive Reasoning test you will have to do.
Check it out it'll help.....

Hi guys,
Yes yes me too! Congratulations to you both!
Im going to be based in London but need to finish Uni first!! Will sort things out with the talent manager though.
It hasn't sunk yet, it doesn' feel real!
Congrats everybody, fancy us 3 all getting in! Will be interesting now to see what arises form this, can't wait! I wonder how many people have been taken in from each location? There were at least 30 applicants for Birmingham, so could this translate to 5-10??
congratulations guys.... unfortunately i got an email saying i was unsuccessuful.
hope everything goes well for you all, and it'll be interesting to see what you guys get to do, so will be nice to keep this thread going
good luck :)
Hi,
I have my interview in London for the runner pool next week and am massively stressing out about it. Was hoping someone who had already had their interview could give me some info on the questions they asked at the interview? did they grill you a lot on your responses? What was the group task like? Sorry for all these questions and congrats to everyone who has been successful. Thanks!!
First of all, congratulations to the people that got in!
To those who didn't, keep trying, I guess =] It says in the e-mail they keep your records for 12 months anyway, which is kind of cool.
@Barley55 Which day is your interview? Mine's Wednesday. Try not to freak out too much, sometimes it's good not to be too prepared so that you can just be yourself.
Sismtihin already sort of outlined what happens on the day, that should help you.
So to those who got in, what are the details? Where are you going, when? =D
Congrats to flordialovebug and sismtihin.
Have you guys had a call for interview yet? I got an email today asking me to attend on friday, not the greatest amount of prep time! So nervous, I didn't expect to hear from them this soon. I expect we'll all be going on a lot of these over the next year!
p.s good luck for all those with runners interviews this week.
@Umbongo
I haven't hear anything form them since I got the e-mail. I sent back the form with references on etc.
So they want you to go in for another interview? What did they say on the phone? Is it just to formally go through everything?

@sismtihin
I guess it just depends on what your department preferences were. I put down factual as my first choice and thats the job I'm going for tomorrow. They just sent me an email saying I had been short listed for the role, the length of the contract being offered and to turn up for the interview. Literally - thats it, I have no idea what show its for, they just said they'd talk through the job with me at the interview. I think it will be more like an informal chat and seeing as I can't do much prep for this, I think i'll just treat this as a learning experience!
@sismtihin
Hey, i got into the Birmingham pool too and, like you, filled in the form they sent and sent it straight back with refferences but i havent heard anything else yet either. I guess as Umbongo Umbongo has said, there is something that has come up specific to a factual' department. I guess we just wait longer. I'll keep you posted if i get anything and will check here for updates from you guys too.
Hey, I got into the London PMA group. I replied on Tuesday with my acceptance form and put factual as my number one but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm guessing with all the admin assigning Talent Managers etc. it may take a little while. I'll keep you updated. Hope your interview went well Umbongo Umbongo.
ps did anyone else get told that over 8000 people applied for the Vision Pool this year?
Filip23 which Birmingham interview did you attend? I was on the Thursday 12:30 one.
8000 people thats quite a few, I wonder how many people have been given a place overall?
I hope they don't call me soon as I'm going to Poland tonight until Friday, just my luck they will call when I'm away and I can't make it in...
Thanks chalkandcheese.
Just a heads up - the interview was just like I thought it would be. Just an informal chat where the managers talk about the role, department etc and answer your questions. The whole thing was about 20 mins. Then you email your talent manager if you want the role. So there is nothing to stress about when you get your interview invites!
Glad the interview wasn't another tense affair. What department were you interviewed for? Is it something your interested in?
@chalkandcheese
The job involved working in a team of PMA's across the entire factual deptartment, which was my first choice.
Has anybody heard from anybody yet offering any contracts and work etc?
I haven't heard anything about contracts/work nor the identity of my talent manager yet. Although I have training scheduled in so Im guessing we'll find out more then.

Hello!
I can't help with advice I'm afraid, but was just wondering when you heard from them?
I sent my application on the 24th but haven't heard a peep back yet. The website says they were hoping to do call backs last week, so just wondered.
Sorry to be a complete pain!
Thanks in advance.
