I too got an email asking me to complete an online assessment for the BBC, I would just go for it, there are no right or wrong answers and some of the questions you can base around your own experiences, it does say to set aside 1 hour for the test but it took me around 2 hours - good luck

Penalty85

thank rosepetal foor your answer. I just completed the assessment it was quite fun! let me know when you get answer..Good luck, what did u applied for?

Hi both,

I recently applied for an editor role at the Beeb and was just wondering how long it was before you heard back (i.e. about the online assessment)?

I am being very impatient!

Thanks and good luck!

rosepetal

Hi - I did not apply for a specific job at the BBC, I just submitted my CV about 3/4 weeks ago to register my interest in any role in b support, and on 19 March got a reply asking me to complete online assessment which I am waiting to hear back whether i have been successful, i think they have a large volume of applications to sieve through so be patient, either way you will be notified.

rosepetal

don't suppose you've heard back re the online assessment, i am really nervous as i really want to pass and will be gutted if i don't.

Penalty85

Hi both,

2-3 weeks After submitting my CV for BBC north i was invited to an online assessment which i completed exactly a week ago, i have not heard anything back regarding results ,getting nervous..lets keep each other updated..good luck to u both

muddymudskipper

I had an e-mail about this today saying that the recruitment process 'is underway' and that they will contact me if a role becomes available.

rosepetal

Hi - that's great news so you obviously passed the online assessment. I haven't heard back and will be absolutely gutted if I have been unsuccessful. Best of luck in finding a suitable role there.

muddymudskipper

Hi,

I'm not too sure. Here's the message in full:

Thanks for applying for a role at BBC North and for completing the online assessments. We just thought you’d like to know that the recruitment process is currently underway and your details are safely logged on our database.

There is still lots of time before the new BBC North is up and running. However, please be assured that we will be in touch if a role becomes available that matches your skills and preferences. In the meantime you will find lots of information about BBC North and the recruitment process on our website www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/north.

Thanks again.

Nothing about passing the assessment, I just took it as a reminder that the process has started. I applied for a technology role, how about you?

EDIT: Just saw your earlier post. Maybe they're e-mailing by role or department? I wouldn't rule anything out until you get a definite answer. Good luck.

rosepetal

It looks like you did pass the online assessment, how soon after completing the assessment did you receive this email. I have not had such an email so I will try and remain positive and keep everything crossed that it goes in my favour also. I will keep you informed either way.

muddymudskipper

I got the e-mail today after completing the assessment mid-March.

Reading the e-mail back now, it almost seems like 'thanks but no thanks' e-mail, after the mention of keeping details. But I'm happy to wait for any information.

rosepetal

No it's definitely positive news - you will be offered an interview when a suitable role becomes available and even if you are unsuccessful they will still keep offering you interviews for your specific job role - check it out on their website under Q&A - well done.

legend85

I've had the same email.

Applied for a journalism role at the end of February, completed the assesment mid-March and had the same email (well, two actually!) today.

Not admitting defeat just yet! This is a big public organisation and in big public organisations, admin tends to move quite slowly. I can imagine the Beeb having plenty of applicants to run through and plenty of people on the phone asking whether they passed the test or not. Personally, I would think / hope that if you'd failed, they'd tell you straight.

Call be optimistic, but I'm reading it as a "sit tight, we'll call you when it's your turn" kind of email. :)

Penalty85

I recived the same email as muddymudskipper..sounds posiive..but i think its gonna take a while before we hear from them again...best of luck all

rosepetal

That's great, I feel awful now because you and I both applied for B-support and I have not heard anything, I'll give it till the end of the week and if no news just take it that I have not been successful - I think it's November this year they will be starting interviews, at least you're in and that's good.

NickyNoodle

Yep me to, I will be doing the on-line assessment tomorrow. I just wanted to know if I can prep for it? also is it all multiple choice or do you have to type in you answers?

any advice welcome

Cheers everyone !

legend85

It's multiple choice. Not really much that you can prep for - it's more a test of "think on your feet' and a personality profile.

NickyNoodle

Cheers for that. I did it yesterday, I was expecting the worst but it was fine. thanks for the advice.

stephentj2626

I have applied for the business support - BBC North and recieved an email from them today to complete an online assessment. I am going to complete it now.wish me luck guys.

rosepetal

Good luck. I completed mine mid march and only heard back last week, it looks like the majority of b support roles will be towards the end of the year beginning of 2011. Let me know what your thoughts are on the assessment.

geeky_man

hi there

I read all the posts on this thread . I received via email my online assessment link . I have applied for a post at BBC north a week ago . Did anyone of you get a positive answer following the test? Also what shall I expect after this? (what is the next logical step?) .. I am hoping to do my test today as soon as I get home from work

Thanks :) I'd appreciate feedback

muddymudskipper

Hi,

I didn't get any kind of answer or result from my test, just an e-mail saying that my details were on file, and that most of the jobs would be filled around the end of the year. Then I got another one telling me how to prepare for an interview. They were generic e-mails sent to everyone, I have not received any kind of e-mail saying if I'd progressed at all.

rosepetal

Agree with Muddymudskipper, nothing concrete, just an email saying they will be in touch late summer as that's when they hope to fill most of the roles and to be patient. They will need to fill roles and they just want to be prepared beforehand, instead advertising nearer the time. Good luck with your assessment.

rosepetal

Hi everyone - just had an email from BBC saying they could not take my application any further because I did not do too well on the assessment, am so gutted as I had received an email a month ago saying they would keep my details on file and I just assumed I was through.

muddymudskipper

Sorry to hear that, rosepetal. I'm sure something else will come along soon.

goblinking

Sorry to hear that Rosepetal.
has anyone else heard back whether or not they passed the online assessment? Or does the email saying how to prepare for an interview count as the "you are on to the next step" email? I applied for programme making by the way...

muddymudskipper

Update:

I got this e-mail today...

Thank you for completing your online assessments - you’re now successfully through to the next stage of the recruitment process. This means you’ll be considered for any appropriate opportunities at BBC North. We’ll be in touch as and when these opportunities arise. We will be recruiting for vacancies for BBC North over the next 18 months with the main volume of these opportunities becoming available in early 2011.

In the meantime, we’ll keep you updated on any relevant news and information about BBC North through direct emails to you and general updates on the www.bbc.co.uk/jobs/north website.

Yours sincerely

Very excited.

goblinking

Hmm, I have not received an email that was that straight forward yet. But I also have not received an email that says I failed the online assessments, so maybe I will get my "pass or fail" email soon. When did you apply Mudskipper? I applied in March I think...or late Feb. I do receive updates however and I have been sent the email about how to prepare for an interview...I hope those are good news.

rosepetal

To muddymudskipper. That's the email I wish I had been sent. You haven't got long to wait, guess they'll be interviewing shortly, well done, keep me posted on anymore news.

legend85

I've had the same email as muddymudskipper today.

Sounds like they are putting people into the "Yay" and "Nay" piles now. Thankfully it seems I'm in the right one!

goblinking

YAAAY I just got my "you passed" email! I am officially on to the next phase!

tv66

Yes, I also received the same email as muddymudskipper, legend85 and goblinking.

'successfully through' to the next stage.

Obviously doesn't guarantee a future job, but hopefully does secure at least an interview!

Would be interesting if the BBC confirm from the 10,000+ initial enquiries to the BBC North website, how many were asked to undertake the online assessments and ultimately how many of us are now 'in the pot' for the future roles.

Penalty85

I also got the "u're successful mail" exciting =) lets keep in touch when the interview rounds start.

Hi all,

I've just read through the threads. Did anyone also have to complete an aptitude test as part of their assessment?

I started with the video questions and the getting to know you sections and I also had a very, very hard aptitude test, 3 mins allowed for each question, this section alone took over an hour! I completed the online assessment this week and I'm waiting to hear back but I was wondering if anyone esle had this too? I was not told about it in the first e-mail asking me to complete the assesment, it was a bit of a shock, did my best, fingers crossed!

goblinking

yes, we all had to do the aptitude test as well as the video assessments. Good luck!

tv66

Depending on which role you are being considered for, will determine which aptitude test you may have been asked to complete.

Journalism will get one style of questions, other roles will get different ones.

muddymudskipper

I'm going for a technical role and had an aptitude test that had nothing to do with technology, I figured everyone had the same one...

Also, I got an e-mail telling me news of Future Media & Technology moving to Salford. Anyone else got a department-specific e-mail?

I read on another forum that Childrens is scheduled to move next May.

plinkyponks

how long did it take between doing the assessment and getting a result?

tv66

my response took several months, but I think I was one of the first batch to complete the assessments online and they didn't start responding until mid June.

Lstuff

I uploaded my CV for BBC North about 2 weeks ago and got the email on Monday asking me to complete the assessment for Content Making.

Did this on Tuesday and found it fairly easy in parts and quite tough in others, but overall I thought I did ok. I was as honest as possible and did it to the best of my ability. So can have no complaints if I don't make it through.

Did anyone have to exit half way through the assessment? I did, but when I logged back in it restarted in a different section to the one I'd left. I did email them to check and they said I'd completed it ok.

Just need to sit and wait to see if I passed the assessment now.

pitufina

Just finished the online assessment today. I had 3 different ones and I am not sure how I did. Now to just wait and see what happens.
Good luck to all of you.

evevieira

Does anybody have any clue about what do the BBC Online Journalism assessment involves?

irish_girl

I did my assessment for Journalism roles the weekend before last. Wouldn't say it was easy.

Once you've answered the standard video questions etc you are asked to answer several timed (3 mins per question) multiple choice questions.

There seemed to be a lot of analogy questions ie you'd be presented with a pair of words in the question and you'd have to choose which other pair of words is closest to the example pair.

Other questions which featured a lot were the kind where you'd be provided with a complicated passage or paragraph and you'd have to summarise / identify the theme / purpose of the piece. There were also spot the grammatical error type questions, eg change this sentence to make it grammatically correct etc.

Thats all I can remember really. I managed to accidentally skip one of the questions by pressing next prematurely and I also ran out of time for one of them by complete accident so watch out for that. I'd love to know how others found it

irish_girl

Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea how long the wait is after completing online assessment?

I applied for journalism roles on the BBC North job page on July 14th and received an invitation to complete the assessment on the 16th.

Completed this on the 17th. Was quite surprised how quickly they got back to me the first time but I doubt it'll be the case for assessment results.

Wouldn't mind having an idea how long the wait is so I can lock it somewhere in the back of my mind until this time.

Also wondering if those who passed the assessment would have some inclination of this having completed it?

I cannot tell myself whether the outcome should be positive or negative.

I think I did quite well for the role specific questions (unless there were trick questions I didn't spot) but it's hard to tell what it is they're looking for with the other parts. I did answer as best as I could and in the manner I would be most likely to act personally but as I said I have no idea what it is they're looking for!

evevieira

What does the video questions involves irish_girl?

irish_girl

BBC workplace scenarios. Like it would show a conversation between colleagues in a certain situation and you should indicate what the person in the video should do by multiple choice. So you pick what you consider to be the most effective choice and the least effective. If I remember there's at least ten of these questions.

evevieira

Thanks Irish girl. I was invited to the online assessment last week but still haven't got around to do it yet. Is there a certain amount of time that you can take, say for a example, a month?
