Anyone been on this before? Also, they have not offered me an interview for the vacation scheme placement, yet have offered me an open day placement. What am I to read into this - that I do not have a serious chance with them?

You still have a serious chance. This could be for a number of reasons - for example, they might not have any places left for their Vacation Scheme, whereas they do for the Open Day. How are your applications going?
