If anybody has had an Telephone Interview with Thales for a graduate level position I can do some pointers in relation to type of questions you were asked. I know the Telephone interview will be competency based but not sure which competencies I should focus on while preparing my answers. Anybody know of the type competencies they are looking for?

Thanks

Did you have your interview yet? How did it go? What did they ask?

Take a look at this Forum for the answer http://tomcat4.prospects.ac.uk:8080/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3933

I've got one coming up..

Rronaldo9,

Hey hope it went well. Can you please share your experience.

how was your interview? what scheme did you apply to? what questions did they ask you?

Thank you

Ronaldo9

I applied for three positions, I was interviewed only once, but for all three: A few days later I was told that unfortunately I have been unsuccessful.

The positions I applied to were.. Project engineer (DNV00047) Graduate engineer (D3S00015) Mechanical Design engineer (DAS00019)

Questions that I can recall are...

What do you know about Thales? (Company and work they do)

Describe a time when you have had to manage data from lot of sources? Which sources did you use? What problems did you encounter when gathering and managing your data? How did you go about resolving these problems? What did you learn and would do differently next time?

Describe a time when you've had to build a working relationship to reach a common goal (situation)? What was your approach (actions)? What was the outcome (results)? What did you learn from the situation?

I can not guarantee these will come up your time round, but I advise to include it in your preparation. I felt confident and thought that it went well when I had finished, but was wrong when I got the bad news, lol

The interview is brief and will be over before you know it, so try to present as many selling points as you can in your answers. I think thats what led to my downfall for this interview.

Hope it helps, good luck

Has anyone been to an assessment centre yet? Could really use some help and tips specially for the presentation part !

Hey guys! I have got an assessment day with Thales - would it be possible to get an idea of its format, the exercises involved and how I could prepare?

Also, with regards to the aptitude tests - are the verbal and numerical? and are they run by the shl or psl test provider?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

did anyone pass the AC?

Hi everyone, Just had an email from Thales I'm through to the Assessment Centre! Woo! Only had my telephone interview yesterday at 5pm too, so very impressed! FYI, Telephone Interview questions were;

1. What do you know about Thales in the UK (I stress in the UK, I researched Thales as a firm and obviously as they're French I didn't have a massive amount of material about their UK operations)

2. What qualities would you bring to Thales? If you Google search 'Thales interview', the first result is a Interview Guidance page by Thales, on there they state what they're looking for - READ THIS!! It helped me a lot.

3. Mention a time you were in a team, what was your role.

4. Describe a time you had to use many sources of data; what sources did you use, did you encounter any problems; how did you solve these problems; what would you do differently next time.

The lady who interviewed me, Jane, was really lovely, she calmed my nerves immediately with her bubbly personality and I thought the whole thing went really well.

Hope everyone else is just as successful, and hope to see you at the AC!

Hi gmb87 thanks for your info. please could you tell me what programme do you apply? cheers.

Has anyone received an offer from them to start in september 2011 ?

Ruru

Hi gmb87,

I also recently had my telephone interview and I also recieved an email stating that I passed it and through to the assessment centre. Have you any idea when the assessment centre is ? have you taken it yet or still waiting for a reply?

gmb87

Hi Ruru.

I have no idea; was thinking of emailing them to be honest; I got the email on the 21st December and have heard nothing since. Nearly two months on, I am thinking of chasing it up. This is for the Finance scheme, which scheme have you applied for?

n1234

hi, can you let me know what the test center involves? (what questions/tasks?)

Ruru

right assessment centre confirmed on 8th who has made it? apparently, you have to pre prepare a presentation about your final year project... you going to have a group exercise, written exercise, an interview and aptitude tests.

n1234

thanks Ruru :) I received an email confirming that i've passed the interview and asking if i can attend assessment centre. Mine's supposed to be on 29th. After you take your AC, can you let me know how it went? Good luck :)

m13at

hi guys,

well done on getting through to the AC stage, but just so you guys know, the way the AC is run for the business and the finance scheme are different from the engineering scheme. Engineering is one day and business and finance are two half days.

They also rotate questions for the tests and the group sessions, so dont focus your preparation based solely on what one person says

Good luck

Hi all,

I've got a phone interview for one of the grad. Engineering role on Friday (8th). Does anyone have any new questions or tips for the phone interview or where the questions similar to what have been mentioned on here? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Grad_2011

Just had the phone interview and it went quite well. The questions posted here were of immense help. The whole interview lasted for 15 mins (not too long) and questions asked were: - What do you know about Thales UK (business areas and such) - What qualities would you bring to thales - Give an example when you had to manage data to various sources - Give an example where you had to adapt to a project you were working on

Hope this helps

GCHILD1978

Does anyone know how to anser these quesitions please

1).Describe a time when you have had to manage data from lot of sources? 2).Which sources did you use? 3).What problems did you encounter when gathering and managing your data? 4).How did you go about resolving these problems? 5).What did you learn and would do differently next time? 6).Describe a time when you've had to build a working relationship to reach a common goal (situation)?

This site was very helpful as I just recently had the phone interview for Thales UK and wanted to contribute some info back.

Got a phone call on time (which was a nice change as I have received calls an hour late from other companies in the past). The tone was quite formal with little emotion shown.

Initially asked a few security questions which you would have answered previously in the application but I guess this can vary depending on which position you applied for. The questions were exactly word for word what has been mentioned previously on this page so kudos to you guys.

Q1: What do you know about Thales UK and its operations? Ans: Find out what you can about the company prior. Here are a few links:

http://www.thalesgroup.com/Countries/United_Kingdom/About_us/

http://www.thalesgroup.com/Countries/United_Kingdom/About_us/Facts_and_Figures/

Highlight the key points and make some notes if that helps. It might also be a good idea to concentrate on the discipline you want to go towards.

Q2: What made you apply to Thales UK (and the specific position in your application)? Ans: Carried on from previous point talking about the good points and how it deals with cutting edge technology and its innovations (refer to patents). Also I looked into the job role once again (which you can find on your login screen whilst doing the app) and said why I am suited to the role.

Q3. Describe a time when you've had to manage data from a lot of sources? What problems did you encounter and how did you solve them? What did you learn and would do differently next time? Ans: This will vary from applicant to applicant but I used an example of University experiment and explained the problems etc.

Q.4. Describe a time when you have had to work in a team and adapt your approach. What did you learn (about teamwork)? Ans: Decided to talk about my worklife and how you have to constantly adapt your approach to work successfully in a team.

Those were the only questions asked and i'm sure everyone has their own technique so just be prepared and confident. In hindsight this was by no means close to the smoothest interview i've had. Probably the pressure got to me slightly as it seems to be a very appealing scheme they have in place. When researching about the company you can see the scale on which it operates.

Good luck to future applicants and i'll try to give an update on how I did and what feedback I got. I'd definitely recommend anyone reading this to make a contributions of their experience as "applyin ain't easy". I'm sure most of us could do a great job if given the chance.

On to the next application then....

ive had an interview today with Maggie, and felt it lacked a bit of formality as during the interview i realised she worked from home and her dog was barking while i was giving out my answer. And since after that i lost a bit concentration while she constantly interrupts and stop my answer. Heres the list of question before i forget: - Why Thales - What you know about Thales - What skills can you bring

- A time you need to absorb lots of new information and data to achieve an objective [ this one caught me as the question changed from last year ] - A time you work in a team to achieve a challenging task and how did your team relation improve after that???

Kolaveri Di

Hi Guys, i have a telephone interview for Thales next week --- any advice ? Chronk did you pass your telephone interview and what scheme you applying for?

chronk

i applied for business management and no news yet. But looking back to the way how the interview ended, i don't think the interviewer was very impressed.

I think the interviewer prefers a VERY formal interview where you just give exactly what shes asking for, no more and no less. If you gave too much, she will stop you and you need to act quick enough to connect to the next point. Thats what i really struggled with.

Kolaveri Di

I had my telephone interview today -- same experience as you chronk, the women kept cutting me out but im assuming they do that because of the limited time they have .. have you received an outcome yet?

chronk

i guess for companies like this, no reply= rejection as i still havent heard. She did say within one week though. but its been 2 weeks since i had my interview now.

Mithra

Had my phone interview last wednesday for an engineering role internship, heard I was through to the assessment centre about 10 mins after the interview but still waiting to hear when/where, anyone know how long the wait is to hear normally?

Riddhi0104

Also had the same questions as Chronk...I got through to the assessment centre, just no idea when it is, been 2 weeks since they emailed.

Anyone else through? / Any tips for what to expect?

okfatungs

Just got an email from thales saying I passed the phone interview. Questions were exactly the same as chronk. They said that due to succesful week there are limitide spaces available for the business management scheme. I hav to wait till all the final interviews are done before they decide whether or not to take any more recruits for the assesment centre. Did anyone else get this?

Mulla_8

After waiting to hear for a couple of weeks I finally emailed to ask if they had any potential dates yet. I was told it would likely be on the 12th of April before they explained that because of the limited spaces they're was a possibility I wouldn't actually get invited to the assessment centre. I received an email on the 30th March confirming they would like me to attend on the morning of the 12th in Glasgow for the business management scheme.

Mithra

After several months finally got an email from them saying that they won't actually be inviting me to an assessment day because the position had been filled. Thankfully I already have an internship from a company which actually communicates properly with its applicants, won't be applying to Thales for a graduate job I'll say that much!

Roaming near

I'm in the same boat as you, 5 weeks later, still no assessment centre dates. I've emailed them asking for information but have received no reply. On their FB page, they no longer list Business Management as one of the schemes with spaces. I'm going out on a limb based on Mithra's experience and suggesting that it's not looking good for us, but I hope to be proved wrong.

Ogoma

Hi guys,

Please does anyone have an idea (experience) about the Thales UK assessment centre for the Engineering Graduate Scheme? That is, group exercises, presentation, e-tray exercises, and face-to-face interview. I applied for the Graduate Software Engineer and I have been invited for an AC day, although no specific date has been given yet. I specifically want to know if there is any part of the day that involves technical questions which I need to prepare for. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks.
