Siemens grad scheme / telephone interview
Posted 7 January 2009 - 12:17pm by brgm
Hey, any body had a telephone interview with Siemens yet? Sounds like a standard competency based interview but any advice is greatly appreciated!
yes for business scheme. mine is on wednesday, i'll let you know how it goes!
thanks.. mine is on friday, so all your help will be well appreciated
ok i had mine earlier today, it was for the Business scheme, so engineering etc may be different format
the interview was 2 parts; 1) what you know about Siemens, 2) competency questions
1) I was asked these questions:
-what research have you done about Siemens?
-what do you know about Siemens?
(there may have been another similar question but I can't remember)
2) Two competency questions (but this may be 3 for others as the interviewer was short of time). Quite detailed with lots of follow up questions:
a) - describe a time where you had to influence someone to your point of view?
- how did you do this?
- how much resistance did you face?
-what was the outcome?
b) - describe a decision you made which turned out to be WRONG
-what happened?
-what can you learn from this?
-what was the outcome?
I'm not sure they have a pool of these competency questions and ask a few at random, or if these ones will definitely come up.
hope this helps
thanks a lot.
just going to prepare some examples and check my application again...
good luck and hope you will get through to the AC.
will post my questions tomorrow...
I had exactly the same questions.
It could not take more than 20 min.
Thanks for posting them... it really helped a lot
Helloo!
I'm having my interview with Siemens for the Engineering GDP next Tuesday.
It would be great if sb done it already and can post the questions.
I'm affraid that they will be not the same as for the business programme.
I will post the ones I had as soon as I finish the interview.
Good luck to everyone and thanks in advance!
durieliter,
From your post it seems that you had your telephone interview yesterday? I have a telephone interview coming up for the engineering GDP as well. Was wondering if you had any tips you wouldn't mind sharing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Hey Kostasl,
I hope your interview went well, fingers crossed you'll get an invite to the AC. Would you mind kindly sharing your experience of your interview. What questions did you get asked? Is there anything in particular I should focus on when preparing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Thank you Enggrad. You should focus on the questions presented above because they are the same for all it seems. At the beggining they ask you some things from your application, but it is just typical and then it goes according to plan!
The questions were exactly the same? Thats good then. What kind of stuff do they ask about your application? Is it just confirming things?
Kostasl,
With regards to the questions about the research you've done on Siemens and what you know about the company, would you advise me to focus on the sector that I've applied to specifically or general information on the overall company?
Many thanks
hi guys
just thought i would comment to i had a telephone interview yesterday! i applied to the engineering schemes and my questions where different to those above!! my questions were;
1. what do you know about siemens? what research have you done?
2. tell me about a technical project that you have undertaken?
I see some people are worried obout the first question i just talked generally about the company! it worked for me as i got through!! :):)
good luck to any one who has one coming up and if anyone has any advise on the assesment centres it would be much appreciated!!
Hi nicola86,
Thanks, thats very kind of you to share your expereince. It will be of great help as I have my phone interview on tuesday. Were those the only questions you got asked? Did you not get asked any competency questions? Congrats on getting thorugh to the AC.
Did the interviewer probe into your answer to the project question much? as in any follow up questions after you explained your project to him/her? Also, what kind of research did you say you did? I have mainly used the compnay website for this but not sure if the are expecting something outside the box, that extra bit further?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello everyone!
Sorry for answering so late, I thought nobody was interested in the engineering GDP!
As Nicola correctly posted before, that are the questions that you need to prepare. The rest of them are just about you and your availability for moving, travelling, the marks you got in the degree and the technical project...typical ones.
I would advise the people to make a good research about the company, and explore an area that attracts you, since the interviewer ask me something like "What surprised you more about Siemens?" and was really expecting an answer...and I just told her several facts of the company I was reading in papers in front of me ;). With regards to the technical project description, keep in mind that the interviewer does not have any technical knowledge so you need to explain everything very simply (watch out that being simply does not mean being brief! is just simple to understand) and with a proper order.
Thanks for the people that posted earlier and very good luck to the others!
I made it too to the AC althought I didn't make the interview very good at all! No need to worry!
Take care!
Hey guys,
I'm having the assessment centre next week. I have been told that it is going to have 3 parts:
1) Personal Interview (I guess competence based questions...)
2) Technical tests (Have no idea of which kind of questions will they ask)
3) Presentation (Any advice??)
It would be great if somebody could make a description of his experience at this stage.
Thank u very much!
Hey Guys,
First post so bare with me.
I'm currently at the same stage as durieliter and have been successful thought the telephone interview stage.
At the moment my situation is a bit different:
1) I have to attend an interview first
2) If then successful I am invited to the assessment centre.
Is anyone else going through the same process??
Any advice would be great.
Thanks
P.S.
EngGrad,
Do some research form newspapers, press releases around you chosen subject. Also company history and future plans and you should be ok.
Hope It helps
Hi guys,
just had my Siemens phone interview for the Engineering GDP. Just wanted to share my experience with you. It seems that BRGM got it spot on..
It lasted 25mins. First 4-5 minutes went by with the hellos etc and general questions about the application (confirm degrees, grades, whether you can work in the UK etc). Then she told me that she would ask me two questions (so its pretty much standard practice)..
1) What do you know about Siemens?
General information about the company to check whether I have done my research. I started a monologue for about 8-9mins explaining all the various divisions of the company (industry, energy, healthcare, IT services, etc etc). Had all the info clearly written in front of me (last night research). I did stop a couple of times to check whether she has fallen asleep but she assured me that I should keep on going..
2) Explain a technical project that you completed during your uni years.
She pointed out that I should be as simple and non-scientific as possible because she is not an engineer. I guess it is very important to have a well-structured, plain english draft about project objectives-experimental-conclusions in front of you. I didn't and I am sure I was very boring for the first couple of mins. Then I realised that I should involve the interviewer in the play and started asking about whether she is familiar with what I am talking about.
Interview ended up with the classic "do you have any questions".
Good luck to all of you.
PS. If I fail I am sure it will be because I did not have a project draft in front of me.
I recently had the interview as well. Same questions for all engineering positions it seems. As for the 'tell me about siemens' part, just go with general Siemens-wide info.
Has anyone been to an assessment centre? How was it?
I'd applied for the engineering GDP. My telephone interview was only 15 minutes long with 2 questions:
1) What do you know about Siemens?
2) Tell me about a technical project you've done (bearing in mind I'm not from the same background as you).
It was short, sweet, and straight forward. Anybody know what the assessment centres are like?
Hey All,
I have been invited straight to an engineering AC. It is my first interview and I am very nervous about it. They said I have to go through 1. Competency Interview 2. Technical Interviews 3. Presentation on a Technical Project I worked on
Could you guys please help me on what kinda questions do they ask esp in technical interviews? I really want this job
Hey Wales,
how long after you took the online tests, did it take for Siemens to come back to you?
Hey has anyone been invited for a telephone interview for this years entry for the Siemens grad prog??
I have been told tht i am successful in online test. and if hiring manager wud think i am suitable then i'll be contacted .....anyone knows what should I expect further?
Yeah got the same email but thats been a while now. Was wondering if anyone else had recieved an update?
Zum Zum I think the next logical step would be a telephone interview, although I have in the past heard of people been invited directly to an AC

you are aware you have the opportunity to take example questions before proceeding to take the real test. give that a go.

Hi simsim, i am still waiting to hear back about the finance scheme too.
yeah wongus, i spoke to them and they said they will send out updates between mid feb and end of feb. has anyone else heard anything
nope, havent heard anything. thanks for the update simsim, but i'd suggest you concentrate on other applications, or make some more because nothing is fer certain with Siemens it seems.
