RBS GBM Graduate Programme 2012
Hi
Did not find a Forum for RBS 2012 Graduate Programme. So I thought I would start one. Has anyone applied for the RBS GBM Graduate Programme 2012? I applied for the GBM Technology and have been invited to take the Online Logical Reasoning Test.
Please post queries and updates to this forum..
Thanks and Regards Prasanth John
Hey, I applied to the IBD summer scheme at RBS GBM. Literally just completed the logical test, and all I can say is that it's nothing like the SHL Online tests. A bit disappointed really, as I find the SHL tests fairly simple, this one didn't seem to go well enough. sigh.
@ Ssmok: I agree with ibd12. The elements logic test was something that I have never seen before. I have given at least 6 -7 online logical test and nothing of this sort. But the only advice is to remain calm and find the solution. Initially I was shocked to see the logical test (cause RBS used SHL inductive reasoning to test the candidates, which is easy), but I tried my best to answer them. I answered 9 out of 12 if I remember right. I was lucky to clear the logical test for RBS GBM and also gave the next round which is a telephonic interview.
Each question has a time limit of 75 seconds. So keep that in mind before you give the test.
Best of Luck.
@ibd12: Hope u clear the test.
@PKJobseeker: No numerical test? Which position did you apply to?
I did both tests. I guess I passed the logical one because I was invited to sit a numerical test two days ago, which I completed just now. I found the numerical easier than SHL tests although I now realize I made one or two mistakes. Hopefully, I did enough..
Hi jobhunter__1 I applied for RBS GBM Technology. What about you?
I applied to IBD and passed the logical test. I received an email that contained the message: "After reviewing your responses at the online testing stage, we are pleased to inform you that your performance has met our requirements, and that you will now be considered for progression to the next stage, which will be a face-to-face assessment."
Slightly odd that they didn't ask for a numerical test though, as most IBD's do - then again, I'm certainly not complaining! They did, however, state that not all candidates who passed the test are offered the face-to-face interviews, and that I'll be informed at a later date whether or not my application will be taken further.
Good luck to you all.
Thanks for your answers.
I applied to GBM - Research & Strategy London.
Any idea how long it takes for an update after taking the tests?
Good luck with your applications.
Hey,
I just gave the logical reasoning test. Agreed, it so different from others!!
@PKJobseeker, @ibd12 After how much time do they get back to you after the logical reasoning test?
I received a call in the morning. I have a first round this Wednesday! Any idea what it'll be like? The lady who called me kind of rushed it on the phone, so I couldn't ask her.
Thanks! I think I passed the logical one, because I got invited for a numerical reasoning test. I did that, I kind of think it was a bit tough as there were unlimited options :|
No reply from them yet. Lets see.
Hey guys,
Yesterday I scheduled a telephone interview for tomorrow, and began preparing for it last night.
And this afternoon, I got an email that says I got rejected!!! I am shocked by HR's inconsistent decision making process. Sadly enough, they are responsible for the future of the bank.
Well, the RBS journey ends for me here... I don't think I will ever consider RBS as a place I want to work at some other stage of my life.
Good luck to you all. Hope you get your dream jobs!
I would consider contacting them and explaining the situation - it seems really unfair to ask for an interview and then say no!! I still haven't heard anything since the logical test...
@jobhunter__1: Sorry to hear about that. As ibd12 mentioned u should call the HR to find out what happened. There should be some genuine reason. Don't worry.. There a better offer waiting for you out there..
@shruthinagani: They got back the very next day.
How its going with others? Anyone got an invite for the assessment centre?
Hey, I gave the numerical reasoning test day before yesterday. No reply since, should I take it as a bad news or they will notify me about it, even if it is a rejection?
They will definitely notify you whatever the outcome is. In the graduate recruitment process delays are usually considered as a positive sign. Hope for the best...
Hi,
Thanks, apparently they tried to. I got a mail from them that they are trying to call me to arrange a phone interview but cannot reach my number (yayy!). I have mailed them back through the message center in my app. Is that ok? Or should I try to reach them over phone?
The message centre reply should be enough. They will get back. But to be 100 percent sure you can also try to get them over the phone.
Hey, I got the interview, its on Friday(too soon, I know!) Thank you. Any tips/suggestions/advice for the interview.
The telephonic interview is the easiest. They are quite straightforward and all questions will be exactly as mentioned in the email you would have received by now. None out of syllabus. :)
Thank you for the pointer. The email says there'll be questions about motivation, any idea what can be asked about it?
I did the logical test and received an invitation to take the numeracy test a half hour later. The logical test got harder towards the end and I thought I did badly.
Didn't know I had to click submit after I chose my answer for my Q1 because normally the system will just take your answer and move on to the next question when the time runs out. Anyway, the Q2 became very easy as it was thinking I'm an idiot for not knowing the answer for Q1. I learned my lesson and got on with the test, which became harder and harder towards Q12. I basically had to guess my last 3 questions.
I thought I bombed it but a little while later, the invitation for numeracy came in, so I am thinking maybe the 2 tests are just compulsory, i.e. they will invite you for numeracy regardless of how you did in the logical one.
I went ahead with the numeracy one and found it easier than SHL, but having to scroll down and find the correct/closest answer was annoying since I'm used to rounding up or down, but this asked for CLOSEST. Anyway, ran out of time for the last question just as I was clicking the answer. Think the rest was OK.
Anyway, they're only going to hire 5 people in sales in my location, so I'm not getting my hopes up. It was fun doing the tests though. Good luck!
Hi,
Good luck to all of you and congrats to those who have moved ahead in the recruitment process. Has anybody applied for GBM-Operations-2012?
Cheers!
Got a phone call just now - they told me congratulations, I got through the online tests and scheduled a phone interview on the next few days. Any tips will be appreciated!
I applied to GBM Sales.
Hey Guys,
I applied for the GBM Technology, I passed the logical test but now I got a phone interview, would appreciate if you could tell me what is it about, i.e. what type if questions you got, were they tough and after that if the phone interview is successful what are the stages coming
cheers x
Hey guys, I'm just going to apply for GBM Technology and was wondering if you guys had any tips with filling out the application form. I pretty much badly want this position so don't want to leave any stones un-turned. How are the logical and numerical tests?
I recently applied to the GBM Markets graduate scheme and was rejected before any online testing, purely on my cv and application form. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I have good grades from a well respected university (1st class from Cambridge), I know grades arent everything and I admit I had no work experience in the financial industry but I expected I would at least have been given the chance to take the online numeracy tests?
I thought you may make some fundamental mistakes during the process. Otherwise you wont be rejected that early. No offense, just my opinion.
@StevenHoward: I agree with Ramond. RBS rarely rejects applications.. they do at least give the applicants a chance to take the online test..
Hey guys,
I got invited for a telephone assessment after finishing the numerical reasoning test, I thought I did pretty bad, scored 6-7 only out of 12 i guess.
Any one know what will they be asking in the telephone assessment and how long do we have to wait until the face to face interview??
Appreciate for your help.
HI Chaps,
I got am going to have my phone interview this Wednesday, Would really appreciate if someone tell me > how is it, > what type of questions are asked, > how long for each questions
and one more last thing is that what should you say if they are you about FACTS FROM RBS
Thanks in advance Roy x
Hi everyone,
I applied for the GBM Markets summer internship, and was invited to take the logical test. I thought it had gone terribly, but it turns out i got invited to take the numeracy test. I have now taken the numeracy test and again found it challenging. It was a little frustrating as I felt the questions were reasonably similar to those I am used to from other applications, but struggled to adjust to the way they were asked. Oh well. Just wanted to know roughly how long it took for people to hear back after their numeracy test?
From reading this it seems that people were called to be informed, is this the case?
Any help would be appreciated, and good luck to those who have interviews already!

I just received the following email....
"Thank you again for your application to The Royal Bank of Scotland graduate development programme.
After reviewing your responses at the online testing stage, we are pleased to inform you that your performance has met our requirements, and that you will now be considered for progression to the next stage, which will be a face-to-face assessment.
Assessments for different business areas are run at different stages of the recruitment campaign, and we are not currently running assessments for your selected business area. When the assessments start, we will contact you to let you know.
Please be aware that, because we receive many high quality applications and spaces at the next round are limited, we are unable to guarantee an assessment place at this stage."
Anyone else had this email? Anyone got to interview without receiving this email (i.e. does this really mean you weren't quite good enough, but you're on hold)?
it just means that u r on hold. shouldnt worry much.. cause many would have got the same email... they will be arranging the face-to-face assessment meanwhile.
Hi, Could anyone please suggest me how could one check their test score.
Thanks in advance.
got invited for RBM Markets assessment centre on 14th october (this friday).
Is anyone else attending?? would be good to know someone before attending.
pm me
Cong! Where did you applied? When did you finish your phone interview?
ACs for APAC will be held in Nov/Dec/Jan, this is what the HR guy told me. So we can just wait!
Would you put your GPA score if its very low? I have a pretty low score (2.5/5) although I come from a target school...that is just the basic score required. Should I put it anyway or leave it blank? RBS requires a minimum of 3.5 for my region so will I be rejected before even consideration?
Hi All,
I have been invited to sit the numeracy test . The message says it would take about 30 minutes. Does that mean its not strictly timed?
Also, could anyone give an idea about the test- no of questions, difficulty of the test and any examples would be appreciated. I was directed to the numeracy test after the psychometric test.
I have applied for the Business & Commercial Banking Grad programme.
Thanks!
Anyone been invited to an assessment centre for GBM Technology yet?
Thanks.
Heey!! I;ve been invited to the GBM Markets assessment centre on the 14 october as well.. I'm really worried about it.. Been trying to prepare for it but I'm not sure what else I can do other than research the company and so on..

Hi Prasanth,
I have applid to GBM 2012 and have been invited to elements logical test too....Have you taken this test? Any advice how to tackle it?
