IBM IPATO test results

Hi all

I have done the test in mid October and I am still waiting for the results (nearly 8 weeks now). Anybody in the same situation? Or is it just me?

coyne20

Hi I did the test too. I got my results within 2 weeks and was thrilled to be invited to the next stage.

Did your test consist of a (5x5)matrix manipulation, number series and a numerical reasoning?

Does anyone know what kind of tests graduates have to sit at the assessment day?

zidanee

<Did your test consist of a (5x5)matrix manipulation, number series and a numerical reasoning?>

Yes.

<I got my results within 2 weeks and was thrilled to be invited to the next stage.>

It makes me wonder.. I've applied in mid September and it's December now. I understand that all good things take time but now I'm getting a bit nervous. I've contacted their graduation team about 3.5 weeks ago and they asked me to be patient as they have a lot of people awaiting test results. But if they are giving out results to people who did the test after me might that mean that they misplaced by application? I don't want to bug them with email but how will I know otherwise?

Another weird thing is that on the application status in my profile in Job Applied field it says Graduate Technical Roles - IT Consultant, IT Specialist, Pre-sales Technical Specialist
(No longer available). Does that mean that the position is no longer available or just that they have renamed it recently?

HapiGrad

Zidanee, I think you should contact IBM recruitment team, I did the IPATO test 3 weeks ago and got the results within 3 days. I passed on the next stage, and this is where I am waiting - its been 2 weeks. So yes, there's certainly some sort of waiting around :)

I hope all goes well for you!

IBM is a lot faster than most company, I have applied 1.5 week ago and now been ask to do the IPATO test...

Anyone got insight to the test? is it like the SHL test or GMAT kind test??

Thanks

Davy

coyne20

Regarding the online test, it involves the following:

1. (5x5) matrix table manipulation
2. Number sequences & series
3. Numerical reasoning

It is no way like the SHL or GMAT type test. 2. is quite straight forward. Number 1. however is simply a table (5x5) with special characters in each cell whereby they would want you to follow instructions on replacing characters and switching (columns or rows in reverse order). Unfortunately you can not find practise tests as such on the net so its best to improvise with a made up table. For Number 3, its not statistics or graph/table based like SHL. Its more calculative.

C.B

The 5x5 matrix manipulation: do they assume familiarity with matrices already? As coyne20 describes it, it seems as though they talk you through it step by step. Which sounds nice and easy. (Otherwise, I'd better get revising!) Can anyone who's done the IPATO comment here?

zidanee

No, they don't assume you are familiar with matrices. It is a very simple task on manipulating with data in your head quickly.

driveby

the ipato is very straight forward. the pass rate for non-business roles were 40% when I applied. not sure for techie roles.

I believe the key to the ipato is accuracy. try not to panic when you see the questions and the short time you have. I recall only completing slightly more then half of the test in the respective sections.

oh and from what i've heard... there arn't many jobs at IBM this year (lots of people on waiting list aka 'the ibm matching process')

good luck

businessinfo

Those who are in interview stage or further, can you please share how did you prepared for "Data Matrics" part of IPATO test? I couldn't find any help on this area....neither in books nor on website. Would sincerely appreciate your advice.

Dax

Anyone know how long it takes for IBM to get back to you after sucessfully passin IPATO and what the next steps are?

thanks!

MSS

IBM works on a first come first service basis. I had applied last year, and passed all IPLATO tests. but they had already filled up for the grad scheme so kept me on record. they then contacted me this year for the new batch of graduates and was invited to an interview.

Dax

got back to made, made it through! madness... nice bit of nail biting and waiting!!

any one have any news on the first stage selection day?

fradoo

Has anyone received an email from ibm asking to do online tests again for research purposes after passing the IPATO TEST

Sweetyuel

Is there any possibilty of getting SPAM mail like the original IBM IPATO test invitation?

RKforRK

Hi I did my IPATO test yesterday..

Data Matrix section is tricky..you have approximately 4 new matrices with 5 Qs on each matrix (i.e. 20 questions on the data matrices)..the time for this is 13 mins. One pointer on the Data matrix question is to draw a very large 5X5 matrix on an A4 sheet before the test (draw atleast 5 matrices, i.e. one on each of the 5 A4 sheets). The reason is that you can use this to do the manipulations they require (eg. if row 3 is reversed and column 1 is switched with column 3 what sign will repeat?).

The 20 numerical series questions are of 4 mins altogether with -ve marking.

The mathematical reasoning is different from SHL or efinance careers ones..they are tougher! They also have -ve marking and 15 questions in 15 mins. Best place to practice is to buy a mathematical reasoning test book..loads on Amazon..get a next day delivery!! Be aware these require good practice! Keep a calculator.

Does anyone know how long they take to respond???
Ive applied for software developer. I hope I get through mine...

RKforRK

Passed my test...thrilled!

pkbharga

I received an e-mail from IBM saying that this test is voluntary and may not reflect the hiring process. Is this the IPATo test? Also Fradoo did you receive same kind of e-mail.

This test had 12 questions only. Please help. Thanks.

fradoo

Ya i did the test and i think it can only be for research purposes because it was so easy than the actual ipato test i did. im waiting to go for FRI. What about you which path are you going for.

Nic_T

Hey.

I did my IPATO test on 11/03 but still haven't heard back.

Any idea on the turnaround for results?

Nic

sometimes_snoopy

the numerical bit feels like the 11+ maths test!!! to be honest, it's exactly like it! so next time i'm going to wack out those 11+ revision guides, which are now ancient!!!

atiq

Can someone please give further details on the Number series and Maths Reasoning, that is sections 2 and 3.... Some examples would be much appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

jay2

What do u mean by further details?

atiq

I just want examples so, i roughly know what im expecting.....

Nic_T

Second section is just number patterns and working out the next number in the sequence. (obviously more complicated than this example)

2, 4, 6 ,8, x

What is x?

8
10
12
14

Third section is very much like the 11 plus, so worded numerical questions. Like:

Peter, David and Tina ate lunch together. Tin'as bill was 70% more than David's bill. Peter's bill was 11/9 as much as Tina's bill. If David paid £10 for his lunch, approximately how much was the total bill that the three paid?

£48
£52
£45

I have gathered loads of useful information from this website on the IPATO test. I just wanted to take time out and thank all participants on this thread. If someone has any further examples in particular on the Data Matrices section, please private message me, cheers.

Khalid_Armstrong - When did you apply for IBM? I mean after how log did you got the IPATO test invitation? I applied on 29th april they send me a DDi world survey request but no ipato test.

Khalid_Armstrong

I applied March 2010, and got notification of the IPATO test about two days ago. I had to chase the recruitment team for about 2 months. The process appears to be very slow. As long as the application status reads as under review, I wouldn't be worried.

jw399

Just done the Ipato

I had no idea how many matrices questions there were so I guessed the last question on each matrice question because those were longer and I thought I would be rushed. Ended up having 6 minuted left over so quite annoyed.

Number series, is pretty simple, although ran out of time with 4 to go. U need to average probably around 15- 20 seconds per question.

Numerical reasoning is quite easy.

The annoying thing is, unlike SHL/PSL tests you don't know how far you are through the test!!!!!!!!!!

ybashir

hi everyone,
i just received an IPATO test from IBM and cannot find any practise tests for it. I so want to get this placement. Can someone who has recently carried out a IPATO test advise how can I prepare for it. The three sections are data matrices, numbering and mathimatical reasoning.
Some practise questions will we great if any availible similar to the real thing.

Thanks and a Happy new Year!

jeffopensource

That was tough!!! couldn't finish the matrices part, there was 4 parts, I don't know why~~~~two number reasoning sections in part 2 and 4. I don't think I did good~~

chwoina

try : http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/psychotests.htm

they are a bit easier than the IPATO, but I think the IPATO is designed for people not to finish. So don't worry too much. I thought I had done bad, but passed

best of luck

Mudd2487

Can someone please provide more details on the Matrix part?

Cheers

jeffopensource

You don't need worried about the math, just one thing------- Be waked!

chwoina

im not sure what the matrix part consists of. if it is diagrammatic resoning this could help:

http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/spatialtest.htm

Mudd2487

Being awake is part of the plan jeffopensource lol.

I will be doing mine on Saturday.

Does the sequences part have questions like....find the nth term etc?

C45F

Is the (5x5) matrix table manipulation like the Diagrammatic or Logical reasoning test? If not, where can i find examples before i do the test? Would be much appreciated!!!

Ok guys....

I applied for IBM technical consultant role...

I read da advice on this forum for my IPAT tests..

It was soooooo hard... i easily passed my shl n kenexa tests for other companies that i applied to.. but this test was depressing

NO 5x5 matrices questions

Only number series... and text maths questions..

You got like 2-3min for each question, then next question starts..

The series is tricky... it not like 2, 4, 8, 16, ?

NO not all... it like bloody random numbers...

And u got to find da relationship somehow...

Like it can be that the 1st and 2nd are added to get third or so

I mean dats just a random made up example..but its more tricky than that..trust me..by da time u start to understand da pattern, ull have less than 30sec left

It can all be that like after every third term, da next term is added by so an so much..

And the text questions... omg sum of them i found soo tricky.. sum where ok tho.. percentage.. some four machine process soo many docs on average together.. if two are replaced with 20% more efficient machines how many docs more will the two new machines process...etc etc.. many these kind of questions..many many

But some of da text questions are easy..but most are tricky

When i did da test i was super surprised how hard it was.. i was soo depressed that i even during the actual test..texted my friends..dun bother applying ibm.. their test is impossible.. i did as many as i could... a left many.. i guessed a few..

I thot i had failed 100%.. it was my hardest test ever

But next day i got email dat i had met da min or exceeded der min pass mark..

I was super shocked..!!

Thank god i passed...(alhamdulillah)

U cant really find any good practice tests online..

Just be sharp..do as many as u can...think think..and hopefully ull pass too inshallah

05043

And to add further on those machine questions.. they can ask.. they start at this time.. if two 20% more efficent ones are introduced replacing two of the four old ones.. and the new ones start 15min after the two old ones.. what time will all docs have been processed... dat type of question..

And two guys travelling...at different times..take break at different times and for different durations.. what difference in min will they arrive to the destination if they were driving at this and dat speed...

And then some company got these many trucks and vans.. the old ones run soo many km per liter fuel... they will be replaced by trucks dat cover so much km/l and vans dat do so much per liter fuel.. if total distance travelled by these vans n trucks are so so much..how many liter fuel will they save annually by replacing these with the new ones

The above are type of questions u can expect..

Stay sharp n focused..dun panic or give up...like i amost did..cuz i found it very hard..but still passed..somehow..lol..

U can afford to leave a few blank..i left some i couldn solve n time went off..n next question started... just try ur best n do as,many as possible.. n hopefully ull pass too

Tc n do well ppl

Hestar

Just to make it clear, the format of the IPAT test has changed to what it was between 2008-2010 (from reading posts on this thread).

There are now just two parts, each with 18 questions with around 2 minutes to answer each question. After each question's time allocation it will automatically go to the next one (with a little pause). You can't go back or anything like that.

The first part was number sequences and progressions - I found it really hard

The second part was just written mathematical questions - this section was easier but still a challenge

See the above posts for some typical examples. I personally think I've screwed myself over from really struggling with the first section. I don't know if it's negatively marked or not so that may have made a difference..it didn't seem to explicitly say anywhere in the test description about that.

Good luck all and hope you do well!

vonrichthofen

Good - I have been invited to assessment centre and everybody is talking about matrix tests which I swear I didn't do on the IPATO so was worried there'd essentially be a curveball. BUT I can do the rest of the IPATO off the top of my head as it were so no need to revise.
Thanks guys,
vR

MR1123

Im just about to take the test IPATO IBM, will be videoing it to help others find out what comes out I know i will fail, forgot gcse maths already lol so the video will enable you to know the questions (NOT ANSWERS) if you copy my answers you will fail, for all i know im guessing all the way lolohh yhh i tested the camera and cant read the writing when playing the movie, any ideas needed asap? i will take the test today and will post back after i do.

Regards

MR1123

ok ppl didnt tape the video as its illegal, may have still done in the past but these days they hunt you lol so far i done the numerical questions side to the test so can give proper in depth feedback. You must stay sharp and very focused. The numerical questions are sequence type questions, it took me about 3 questions to get use to it anyway heres an example:
Q? Find the next sequence in this blah blah blah

2,1,2,3,2,3,4,3,4,5,?

answer?
3?
4?
2?
6?
If you look at the sequence of the 2nd,5th, 8th numbers (1,2,3) the answer will be 4. p.s these are easy ones their are harder ones, i will post back with more feedback 2mr going bed now nite :D

MR1123

Question how long did it take for ibm to get back to you guys after you completed the test?
thanks

2ND PART OF THE TEST IBM IPATO

okay the next bit of the test is also maths, mainly division in scenarios like e.g If computer (A) process 1578 words a min and starts typing at 8.57am and computer (B) processes 1100 words a min and starts 9.03am at what time would both process the same amount of words assuming they both type 4 words a second. This is not the actual question but very similar. All the questions on this section are similar like the example above. cant believe the time run out for me on 5 questions, i keep forgetting to look at the time because im doing calculations on my note pad so not looking at the screen, same thing happened on the second part :-( anyway if anyone needs more help pm me.

macaulnj

IBM retest you at the first selection day, on the number sequences. They give you 10 questions, and pick generally the harder ones.

poker1312c

Guys I took the test today! I didn't prepare for it at all. I just checked the sample questions and went for it as from the sample questions looked really simple... hahah jesus christ from the sequence questions I could not get a clue really..it was so difficult .. I think that I wouldn't figure them out even if I had my whole lifetime.. I guessed most answers so I am not waiting for a good result even if I did well on the second part..

MR1123

failed my test guess it was for the questions i didnt complete in time, oh well i guess better failing now than later :D

Melodica

I did my test yesterday..I have 2:15 for each question and the some of the number question was freaking hard.....Numerical One was quite easy,,

vonrichthofen

And how did you do?

Melodica

Well, it could be better...you should able to score 100% in section if you don't have language problem(which I Have..was confused by some wording trap..). But section one was quite hard. I will be happy if i can get 60% right..
