E.ON technical interview questions?

Hello all,

Has anyone gone through E.on face-to-face technical interview? Any tips? What kind of questions do they ask?
I called them but they cannot give me any insight because it would not be fair for the other graduates. (fair enough...)
The problem is that haven't found anything on-line about E.ON interviews....Have you?

Redsuperted

There's not a lot about E.ON online.. yet. I'm afraid I haven't got anything on them either, but I will scout around and hopefullyget some info on this thread... has anyone else had an E.ON interview?

Redsuperted

Can you detail the interview process.... I'll put it in the E.ON wiki...

Is it:
  • Online application
  • Telephone interview
  • Interview
  • Assessment centre

?????

Thanks!

foteini

thanx a lot helixn...
That's the procedure for me as well.
I have applied for the IT Graduate Scheme, so I guess I will not be asked about "underground transmission lines"...hopefully... :-) What do you mean I need to know "the basic stuff"?

Did they ask anything that you did not know from your degree? Was the interview in-depth? Where can I study about commercial awareness and the energy industry in general?

Thanx a lot!I really appreciate it.. Good luck to your AC!

helixn

I searched for the things related to the job in wikipedia.
Stuffs like the general network distribution in the UK, current issues related to the energy industry
In my opinion, they just wanted to know our basic knowledge of the subject. It was not too in depth.
they did ask me something that I didn't know, so I just be honest to them and tell them that I didn't know,
so they explained those things to me.
be prepared with some competency based question as well at the beginning of the interview.
'why do you want to work with e.on'

foteini

So,you are telling me that you did not have any idea about this stuff before your research for e.on? WOW! Can I ask you what your degree is about? I am a computer engineer; I hope I will be asked questions related to IT stuff!

helixn

I did knew some of the stuffs because most of the stuffs that they asked were things that somebody doing that degree should know
e.g 'what do we use to step up the voltage in our distribution network?'
quite easy actually
but there are also some stuffs that I couldn't recall learning in university.
my degree is electrical and electronic engineering

foteini

Thank God!!! I was a bit worried when you started telling me about distribution networks.... The only networks I know about are the computer networks!!!OK then,I see...

Thanks a lot for telling me about wikipedia...Indeed, it has a very good collection of helpful links! I wish you good luck once again!

helixn

how was your interview foteini?

foteini

it was successful actually....

It was not difficult, very high level technical questions....

-technology trends
-project lifecycle
-security trends
- soa advantages and disadvantages

and some situational questions like: if you are assigned 2 projects, how do you choose which one is the most important?...

They were very helpful, you were right!
My AC is on 10 and 11 of February, when is yours?

helixn

congratulations!
mine is on 4 and 5 february
i'll tell you how it goes

foteini

great!good luck to u... I look forward to hearing about your experience!

Hi i've got my technical interview next week for a chemical engineering industrial placement, was wondering if anyone knows what to expect? I'm not really too sure how to prepare for it! I've got an interview which is split into a competency part and technical part and also have to deliver a 15 minute presentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

ps if i pass this part do i attend an assessment centre or is this the final part of the assessment?

helixn

I'm sorry. I'm not sure how the assessment will be for industrial placements. For the competency based part, i guess you'll just have to be prepared with the usual stuffs and for the technical stuffs, just be prepared with some situational stuffs. Everything will be ok. They won't expect you to know these technical stuffs in detail. Just make sure that you have a good understanding of all the basic chemical engineering concepts.

helixn

E.on is axing 450 jobs all over UK. This is not good. what do you guys think?

helixn

foteini, my AC on 4th and 5th has been cancelled and they rescheduled me to attend an AC on the 16th. How about you?

diposuraj

Hi
I have technical interview with E.on next week, does anyone has info on what they ask for Engineering services graduate postion. Thanks

foteini

@helixn:
No,they didn't say anything about it... Mine is on 10 and 11...Did they tell you why it was cancelled? And they just told you 2 days before the ac?frustrating...

foteini

Sounds interesting and challenging....THANX VERY MUCH for the info Helixn..I will let u know about my AC next week,ok?good luck with your preparation..

thanks again,
foteini

helixn

foteini, how was your AC?

helixn

wow.. that sounds really interesting..
Many thanks for the info, and do tell me the outcome.
so I guess your advice is to concentrate more on improving my competency side and less on the technical side?

foteini

Actually they are not going to ask you ANYTHING about your technical skills. They want to know that you can analyse information and present facts about energy and environment.

DO keep an eye on customer-focused strategy in ALL your answers. They are a German company in the UK and they need good customer relationship management with the british people...They have to persuade them and prove that they act for british benefits.

helixn

Thanks a lot for the advice foteini. I'm glad there won't be any technical stuffs in there. ;p
Btw, in the interview part, you did mention about 'change'. What sort of question did they ask about 'change'?
Have u got the outcome of the AC?

helixn

man..those questions can easily catch me off guard.
I'm sorry that you didn't get the position with e.on but I'm glad you've got another job! lol
Must have been a relief if it's your first offer, or might be a headache if you've had several other offers

foteini

Thanx a lot!
Actually I have another offer from BAE Systems but I had to wait a lot to be security cleared first....So,it was not a headache!

About the questions: be sure to prepare 2 answers for every question just in case....(Another one could be: tell m about a time when u had been innovative and challenged a common way of doing things....)

And sth else: I did not take any breaks. I was working in my "office" from 8.30 to 4.30 and I only stopped for 15 min to have lunch!!!!Be prepared to be reeeeeeeeally tired!!!

helixn

really?.. gosh.. the only AC that I've been to was a really laid back and not very stressfull one.
man.. you've had lots of offers..
thanks again for the tips and pointers!

foteini

just a note: I am not a man!hahahaha... I am a girl!

It is a difficult period to find a job. I have attended 6 AC so far and I know others that have attended a lot more... Face it as an opportunity to get some feedback and move on!

helixn

hahah..lol.. that's embarassing for me. I guess I 'misinterpreted' your name then.. ;p

yup..it's really bad that we have to look for a job during this tough times..
but hopefully everything will be ok and we'll all get through this

Hi Foteini:

Does the presentation and role play have to do with the investment solutions for Powerdex, or are they on a separate subject?
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

helixn

Hy,

Though your question is to foteini, I might just answer this for her. Yes, they are about the investment solutions for Powerdex.

foteini

Thanx Helixn for answering the question! How was your AC?

helixn

It was fine. But just like you, I didn't know what they actually want.
They said that they're going to inform the outcome in 5 working days.
Have you got the feedback for your AC?

foteini

Not yet. They scheduled a phone call for feedback on the 24th. . .

zhiliao994

Hello Foteini and Helixn,

You both seems superb in your job hunting, especially applying for E On.

I receive the phone call in the afternoon from EON that I will attend technique-based interview on 24th March for Energy Service.

Do you have any idea about it? Or is there anybody apply for this position in the forum?

Could you please let me know what kinds of question they might ask and in which level?

Yasirah

How long did it take you guys to hear back after the first interview? Had mine monday of last week and I'm still waiting :(

(although I remember them being quite slow responding to my application and online tests as well)

helixn

the latest should be one week. but you can check online. they update the online status quite fast. only that they'll take quite some time to contact you.

zhiliao, I don't know what sort of question they are going to ask for energy services. just make sure you are well prepared with the basic knowledge of technical stuffs in that work area
and be prepared with situational questions as well.

zhiliao994

Thanks Helixn,

I will double check it online and try to preview it.

How's going your AC? Any good news?

AnJay

Hey guys!

I am quite happy to have finally found something about E.ON's recruitment process. However, I have just been invited to do the ability tests. As this will be the very first ability online tests I would be doing in my life, I am quite nervous about it. I´ve done the practise tests on shl.com, but still am not sure.

How did you guys find the online tests? Were they really just 20 minutes each? Were they on the same difficulty level as the practise tests/questions or easier/more difficult?

As I just recently moved to the UK and only recently started my job hunting, I am not quite sure what to expect. So any feedback would be highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

shamils12

Hi helixn

Ive got a ability test with E-on , just wondered if u could let me knw wht type of questions are on numerical reasoning and how many questions within what time period.

many thanks mate

helixn

hi. the questions are of the same level as the shl test. In fact, I believe they got their test questions from shl.
20 questions in 20 minutes if i'm not mistaken. I did my test long ago, in november last year.. so i don't really remember
they are exactly the same as the test questions from Atkins.

unfortunately I didn't get the job with e.on, but luckily i've got a job with another company

shamils12

hello
Many thanks I will crack on withit straight away.

goodluck on you career
