Hello All,

I have applied to CSC Business Graduate Scheme. I have passed the first stage but the second stage did not go as planned!! I think I done OK (passed) for numerical but the verbal part was not good enough!! Lets hope it works differently!!...

Can anyone tell me how long it will take for CSC to tell me whether or not I have been successful and if YES, how long it will take until phone interview?

Thank you all

jagode

Hi

I'm not too sure about the Business scheme but for the technology scheme everything was automated, I was offered the phone interview straight after the tests. I did the tests a couple of days ago and have my interview next week.

Financejob

Hi all, I applied for the consulting graduate training scheme and after completing the verbal test i found out within a few minutes i pased the test. But it maybe different for technology. Jagode How did your telephone interview go? was it competancy based? what kind of questions did they ask you? If anyone could share any experiences that would be great. thanks for your help

jagode

Hi Financejob

It was the same automatic response for the Technical scheme as well. I have my interview scheduled in 2 days time, I expect there will be a few questions about the company and then they'll blast me with the competencies. I'll let you know how it goes.

Financejob

Good luck with your interview. I have mine of thursday. That will be great if you could let me know how it goes. thanks

jagode

Hi

I had my phone interview today, I was only asked 3 competency questions which is odd because that meant it only lasted 30mins, from what I've read other candidates were asked 7 or 8. Anyhoo these are the questions I was asked:

1. What do you know about CSC's services.
2. Which clients do we serve.
3. What do you think you can offer to CSC.
4. What are the main duties for your role.
5. What are the main skills, in general, required for teamwork.
6. Difficult member in team.
7. Complex project.

Hope it helps you and others. Good luck with your interview.

Financejob

thanks for your help. Did they ask you to use the STAR technique when answering your competancy questions (Situation, Task, Action and Result)? Also where were you able to find out about other peoples interviews -the ones that had 7/8 questions? thanks again for your help.

jagode

Hey

Yeah you should use the STAR method, the lady was nice enough to point it out before she began asking the questions. These are all the questions CSC asked the other candidates, I found them on wiki job:

1.Where is our Head office (UK HQ is Aldershot, Hamshire).
2. What is our Revenue and Share price.
3. Who is our current CEO (UK CEO is Kevin Brown, Global CEO is Mike Laphen).
3. What motivates you.
4. Explain a situation where you have broken bad news to someone in a more senior position than you.
5. Day to Day duties for your role.
6. Explain a situation where a project plan changed at a late stage and you had to adapt.
7. Why CSC, Why this particular role, What does CSC do, Projects, Clients, Industries we serve.
8. Why have you chosen a career in I.T.
9.What can you offer to the role.
10. Explain a situation where you have had to deal with a difficult member in a team environment.
11. Explain a situation where you had to deal with multiple deadlines.
12. Complex project.
13. Explain a situation where you have built a relationship with a customer.
14. Which other companies have you applied to.

Those are all the candidate questions I found on Wiki Job. Question 7 will definitely be asked.
Hope it helps.

Financejob

thanks for that. Some of the questions seem ok to answer. I think the dificult one to answer would be the questions about giving a situation where you have broken bad news to someone in a more senior postion than you? im trying to think of an answer for that. thanks for your help.

jagode

I haven't heard any news about the AC either other than the location (Aldershot), hopefully they will give us a least a coupla' of weeks notice.

clarkalastair

Passed the numerical and verbal reasoning tests. Got a phone interview on the 30th Dec. Fingers crossed I pass, regarding the assessment day I'm hoping that it'll be late in Jan. Currently in China, won't be back in England till the 17th.

consultingmad

I had my telephone interview on the 12th? of december for business consultancy..
I passed it and now invited for an AC (date unknown as yet)..
I am somewhat confused about the actual role though..when they say 'Business Consultancy' are they talking about Management Consultancy etc? Or is it still quite technical and to do with IT infrastructures etc?

Any help on AC experiences would be amazing!

gradjobs087

hello everyone,

does anyone know how long it takes to hear back from the verbal test. they got back to me via automated email after my numerical test saying:

"Having successfully completed the online numerical test, we would like to invite you to participate in the next stage of our selection process".

But after the verbal test I havent heard anything. I did it on the 2nd of Jan.

please help, cheers.

consultingmad

I dont know what the general rule is as such, but my format was like this:

numerical > passed > straight to verbal > passed > straight to pick times for a telephone interview > passed > 1 week wait > passed > AC (date unknown yet)

hope that helps

C1234

Hi,
Have telephone interview soon and would really appreciate an answer:
Are you expected to answer qu's (i.e. about why you want to do that role) specifically for your first choice? or is it better to just answer them generally for the business scheme?
Thanks

MSS

@ C1234 : i think a mixture of both would give your best answer. such as why u chose csc, why that department (i.e. for tech enthusiasm in tech as a whole) and why the particular role (i.e. for technical, why u enjoy coding etc) and then beyond that why the grad scheme as a whole.

greg richards

hey jagode you alright, i got a call yesterday and mine is on the 3rd of feb, thats all the info i got.

Financejob

Hey guys, just wondering did you guys contact CSC before they contact you about the A/C? Also Greg did you apply for the Business Project Management Graduate Programme or the Consulting Project Management Scheme?

jagode

I didn't contact the recruitment team but I'd suggest you do if you don't hear anything before the end of the week.

Financejob

if i dont hear from them today I will call them tomorrow morning. What scheme did you apply for?

greg richards

hi ya, i applied for the business man stream.

jagode
  • Edit: AC is actually on the 5th February for Technical - Architecture solutions
jagode

Hey ppl

Just received the AC guideline, it says there is another presentation along with the prepared presentation, anyone know what this will cover or is it just a uni project? anyone attending the AC on 5th at CSC HQ?

maddy7869

Hey Jagodi,

the other Presentation is gona be given to you to assess which is the most viable investment which would be extension of a shoe business which has taken over some bag business or vice versa .... you will be given amPle time to gather info on it and give on the sPot Presentation on it....

I had an assessment centre in December and I've got the job and already ave my contract as well just need to send it back was busy with things so couldnt answer PeoPle who needed helP....

Hema4

Hey Maddy, jagode, gregrichards & financejob
i have an assesment centre with csc on the 9th. please could you let me know if you had to redo the numerical and verbal test please. and also how was the face to face interview? was it competancy based or do they ask you questions about the company. How was the group exercise you did?
please let me know how it goes. good luck to you all

consultingmad

Hello people, has anyone heard back from csc about any Business consulting AC's?I have passed my telephone interview in December but still havnt heard abt AC dates :s
Has anyone had business consulting ac's for 2010 intake full stop??
Please let me knw people :)

maddy7869

Hey Hema,

they dont take the test again, but you are exPected to know about CSC inside out just like the back of ur hand,
so be PrePared and in terms of the face to face interview they would quiz you on the CSC and would ask you questions about the Presentation you are told to make and bring it in with you when you are invited for the assessment day...make sure you have a structure to your answers I think the STAR technique would be good to use, also make sure in the grouP exercise its about how you reason with your fellow colleagues and how you communicate with them and get your Point across, it would be something to do with a charity and you would be given different ones to suPPort but you ave to convince the fellow colleagues to invest in the one who ave been given, they would constantly try and disturb you with new details almost every 5 to 10 mins so makesure you on ur heels about it.... hoPe this helPs you guys and good luck .... anything else do ask me guys would be haPPy to helP...

Hema4

hi Maddy,
thanks for that information it was really helpful. What kind of questions did they ask you about CSC? did you just refer to the graduate csc site or the main csc site? do they give you competancy questions like they did in the telephone interview e.g: give an example of a time questions. or do you just have to speak about csc in general like what the company does, its customers, etc.
You mentioned in your 1st reply about another presentation the one about the bag and shoe company is that a group presentation or an indiviual presentation? was that really tough?
How did you prepare for the personal presentation you prepared at home about how csc impressed you and how the business should expand?
Thank so much for your help. its been really helpful.

maddy7869

Financejob

Hi guys, how did you assessment centre go? how was the face to face interview? what questions did they ask? how was the group exercise? any help would be great.

shaun1

Hey Jagode

How did it go for you?
Did you get the job?
Have any recommendations on making a good impression at AC?

shaun1

How did it go?

Leah A

hi shaun1,
which scheme did you apply for? when your assessment center?

greg richards

Hi Folks, I went to the CSC AC on the 5th Feb. Unfortunately i didnt get the job :( really gutted but i thought i would take the opportunity to help the remaining people on the forum to benefit from my experience.

in summary, the day was extremely well organised and they provided first class hospitality throughout the day, offering drinks, biscuits etc
to start off with you will be put in a group of lets say 5-6 and you will be given a case where you have to allocate 60k to 6 varois causes, so as a group you will need to discuss which is the best. As a group i thought we tackled it quite well only to find out that the charity we had chosen had a bad history, that was aimed at throwing us off course... but we still managed it well given the time.

secondly we were put into rooms and we were given a case about launching a rucksack. we had to read the case and say which market to choose... essentially they are testing you to see how u cope under pressure. dnt worry they give you 1 hour and that is about enough for you to read it and write a presentation. um i suggest u briefly look at the pages for about 3 min to get an idea then go ahead doing it for real.

then we had lunch. it was a nice atmosphere with fellow candidates and we were later joined by assessors. i felt quite tense so i didnt eat much but its really informal and a opportunity to have a chat....

then we met some previous graduates that had joined, they were a decent bunch and gave first hand insight into the company.

After that one by one we were invited to present our individual prepared presentation followed by an interview. I prepared my presentation on CSC and its acquisition of FCG, I know for a fact after speaking to other candidates that my topic was the most relevant and i spent ages preparing it so i felt very confident. However, after delivering the presentation i was criticised for going over the 10 min time limit and speaking too fast. i think that was quite harsh considering every point was relevant .. but thats just an opnion, i know 100% at uni i would have got an A but obviously the guyy didnt appreciate it. after that i lost my confidence and the interview let me down. out of all the assessors which were decent people there was one that was slightly rude, swearing and taking the mic out of people that had taken the group assignment in the past which was unprofessional and that happened to be my assessor! (not naming names).

after that it was time to go home. the best advice i can give to u budding csc employees is to relax be confident and get involved.
even though i got the bad news today which i am still upset about it but i am happy to help if u have any questions.

gud luck, i wish u guys every success
