They are predominately looking for Leadership, Team Working and Achievements. I guess you will have to bear all these qualities in mind when you complete the test. Good luck!

Hi folks,

Anyone applied for the IG program for Spore Consumer Banking? I just completed my online application two weeks ago, am still waiting if i am successful.

Anyone completed around the same period and already received a call-up?

Thanks.

hi guys & girls, the HR lady from HK CB just called me. I got the HK CB offer :)! My case is a little bit different i was an intern last summer already but still i needed to go through another two round of interviews! The HR lady told me they're hiring 30 ppl in HK ....so good luck guys! Right now i just have to wait for the offer package to arrive (i'm currently living in Canada)!

All the best!

hey kluk09

can you give me some pointers on what sort of questions were being asked during the interview? You can PM me!

Congrats on your offer!!

hi all, to all those who have received the offer...CONGRATULATIONS.....It must be an awfully good feeling. Am still waiting the result of my 3rd round interview(Nairobi, Kenya)

hey kluk09 well done!!! how long did they take from the final interview to the phone call offer? I had my final face to face interview in london three days ago, and still nothing.

Cheers

hey guys! It only took me 2 days from my final interview to the phone call offer...that was super fast! I guess its because they already have a lot of information but normally the HR lady said it'll take 3 weeks. For the final interview, you should be expecting that they're ask you questions related to CB (i.e. if you're applying to CB). Well I was working at the Wealth Management department last summer so they asked me questions related to WM. Basically, you need to be updated with financial news. Most importantly, please spend an hour or so listening to the SCB's 2008 annual result podcast online. It'll help for sure!

Well I'm also still waiting...been a while and i haven't heard anything yet : (

hi genchungxx, have you tried emailing HR?

I also had the face to face interview in the beginning of February but I haven't received any communication from HR. I think it's still early given that i've had to wait for, on average, around 2 months between the stages. I'll be calling HR in early April if still there's no word. Don't worry, genchungxx. The long wait may turn out to be worth it. I've been told that SCB is very prompt with regret letters. If you haven't received one by now, chances are you won't be getting any. Chin up, bro.

Who here has received and accepted an offer for SCB? We could, possibly, create a facebook group of all prospective employees and applicants? Perhaps we could start a list of the format:

Name: Position: Location: Uni: Subject:

If everyone's up for that, I'll start off :-)

HTale.

hi everyone, I've applied to Consumer banking in hk, had the group discussion (25 minutes) last month and had the first interview with HR last week. I've been told that I will be invited to the final panel interview if I passed the first Interview.

Can anyone share their experiences of the final panel interview of CB? someone said they will ask you about the CB business, so I'm planning to study the products/services they provide, and their future plans, any other suggestions?

Many thanks

Now this is weird. I got a call from HR day before yesterday telling me that I had passed and they would send the offer package to me. Today, I got a regret email telling me that I was unsuccessful. I called them and nobody seems to know what's up. The Senior HR Officer I talked to said that they were yet to conclude the selection process. The other guy I spoke to told me to ignore the phone call confirmation. Now I am confused. This is the second time this guy is sending me a premature regret. In January he sent one but it was later rescinded. I was actually told that "he wasn't supposed to send regret emails". This is not good for my health at all. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Am in Kenya by the way. If I don't get in, I'll never apply to the programme again. I don't think anything is worth this torture.

hey good luck on the final interview? when it is? i had mine, and i think it really depends on the interviewers about what questions they ask.....

omg mnkuria59, that totally sucks!!! i am sure they just screwed up, and your offer is coming on your way!!

A friend of mine hired a firm to help him get a banking internship. He said the interview coaching was really helpful but I was wondering if anyone else has used a company like www.ibankingjobhelp.com?

Thanks

Hey mnkuria59, have they cleared up about whether you hav an offer? I do hope u get one! U should!

Standard Chartered has just informed me that I have been accepted into their programme, which I'm super happy about, so I want to say thanks to the people here in wikijob who has helped me in the process. Thanks a lot!

I hope to see u guys soon, and I hope everything turns out well for u mnkuria59, hope to see u in the orientation! : )

hi, Just received my offer for the IG programme, really excited. Cannt wait to meet all of you. Alot of the comments here were really helpful. Anyways Cheerio for now. Lots of loveFromLagos, Nigeria

the facebook idea really sounds nice. how do we start

Hey,

Did the telephone interview and should know in a few days whether im through to the final interview. Was just wondering for those of you who have received offers, what is the salary package offered? Theres no info on their website and thought it would be rude to ask during the interview. Thanks to everyone on this forum, all the info posted really helped during my interview

Anyone can give me some recommendations for the final interview with IG CB? What kind of ques will be asked in the interview? Thanks a lot.

I haven't received any clarification from HR. I've moved on and whatever happens, happens. I gave it my best so it's out of my hands. Interestingly, we were only 4 people in the final interview but they sent regrets to all of us. My case is special because I had already been notified that I was successful. Well, what can you do? I look at it this way, I was the best candidate and if they can't see that then it's their loss. Tell you how it goes.

Is there anyone hear from StandChart Singapore Consumer Banking IGP? Please.........

Hello everyone,

I am applying for consumer banking in Singapore and preparing to take Talent Assessment. I know those questions are about leadership and teamwork etc... Could you guys guys give me some tips in terms of where to research, what kind of qualities and mindsets they are looking for etc...

Thanks

Hey

Hmmm...I think the Standard Chartered graduate career website does a good job in showing the kind of person they want...u can see tons of examples in it. Anyhow good luck in it!

Hi!

I applied for HK CB's IG program, and had my final interview on 24th April. I still haven't received any phone calls from the HR, or any rejection emails.

I have been counting my days since the final interview...

Hi Folks,

I applied for the Zambian Wholesale Banking IG and successfully went through the online assessments, then I was asked to write 3 essays which I did about 3 weeks ago and I submitted them, and if successful, I would be called for interviews. Unfortunately, today they have just written to me that my application was unsuccessful. I really don't know where I went wrong in the essays. The Standard Chartered IG is the greatest leadership training program ever and to me, it's more than a dream and it's more than a career. I really wanted to be among the great over 75,800 staff from the over 115 nationalities, and to be frank, I really want to add more value to the bank just like Michael Rees has done since 2002. I thought I could also share the essays I wrote so that maybe someone might advise me where I went wrong.

1. Please explain your understanding of the business function to which you are applying, and give two specific examples of how your skills and experiences will help you succeed?

Mike Rees heads Standard Chartered Wholesale banking. Wholesale banking is a business of high value transactions. Standard Chartered Wholesale Banking is made up of four business divisions namely Corporate Finance, Transaction Banking, Principal Finance and Financial Markets. The Corporate Finance unit is responsible for the customisation of client solutions. The Principal Finance makes growth of Standard Chartered investments while the Transaction Banking runs the interfaces between the bank and its customers including its day to day cash management and online services. The Financial Markets is responsible for discovering competitive initiatives that are meant to satisfy customer demands.

Standard Chartered Wholesale banking is present in 70 countries with emphasis in the emerging markets and headquartered in Singapore and London.

EXAMPLES

Transaction Banking

Straight2Bank

Straight2Bank which provides a fully integrated electronic platform across Cash, Trade, Foreign Exchange and Securities Services that is based on Microsoft .Net services is a technology am certified in as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist, with skills in development of such Microsoft active server pages based solutions and business process workflows. With this background, I would be able to easily understand the core business flow and result in growth to myself and the bank.

Principal Finance

Value-add proposition

Having skills of implementing an online and highly secure Asset Management System on SharePoint with high interoperability functions, working with Standard Chartered’s real estate investment team would add great value positively to myself and also leverage Standard Chartered’s and the individual team members’ extensive and established relationships with asset managers.

2. The International Graduate Programme spans across 20 different countries - please tell us how you will be an effective global colleague?

My objective is to use both the Academic knowledge and the technical skills acquired from college and work respectively, in bringing development and growth for myself, as an individual, and for the organization that I am working for. This would be made possible by ensuring that assigned tasks and responsibilities are fulfilled in a timely, cost effective and most efficient way.

With a track record of being able to work in project teams and in most cases resulting in being chosen as a team leader, goes to show how well I would fit in with the Standard Chartered Wholesale Banking team.

Seeing that Standard Chartered has been a pioneer at award winning initiatives, so would I be an effective colleague by bringing in my award winning skills, as proved by my track record. This would also help me be able to energise and motivate the rest of the team members by making them feel good that they actually belong to a winning team, thereby again increasing their strengths of reaching levels of self actualisation.

It should be noted that my skill set entails a path that bridges the gap between technology and the banking business, making it easier for me to be able to solve business related problems with IT solutions and the resulting goal being, the organisation and myself are able to meet the set objectives.

3. What differentiates you from other candidates?

At the age of 18, I was the youngest Cashier across Barclays Bank Africa and was recognised by the Zimbabwean based Counter Manager. While at the same age, having worked for Barclays for less than a year, not only was I appointed at Branch sales champion and selected as October 2002 cashier of the month but I was also nominated for the Banks biggest awards, the Eagle awards.

While in my university final year, my award winning initiative project saw me shake hands with the first republican president and the current republican president and aired on state TV as it was the first of its kind to be made and seen in Zambia. While representing my university, I also won 1st prize at the Innovation Exhibition 2007 held at national level and on the 16th graduation ceremony of the Copperbelt University, I was awarded with the Innovative projects award.

At the biggest copper mine in Africa, I was project manager for Zambia’s first ever development and implementation of the organisations Intranet that’s based on the award winning Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

I ran a blog http://christhedeveloper.blogspot.com which keeps developers and businessmen informed about how I’m solving business problems with IT solutions, and I have so far made successful presentations to Microsoft Kenya and Namibia about my projects.

I have ambitions of becoming a Charter holder (CFA) and am currently looking for a convenient institute to pursue my Masters in Business Administration from.

Hey guys,

I applied for the WB IG programme 2010 and after passing through various recruitment stages, just received an email for the final round assessment!!! I was wondering if anyone here who has been through the process can provide any insight into what the interview and presentation involves? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@mitchel316

Well, I am by no means an expert in essay questions, and particularly the ones by SC are quite challenging. But I feel you could have done much better in tackling those questions...

@sweettooth

congrats for reaching so far with SC! Which region did you apply to? I submitted my essay questions this morning, so I'm afraid I cannot help you much at the moment.

when is your final round?

Hi hazelground,

I applied to London IG, and my final round is early next week- fingers crossed it will be ok.

Hope you hear back soon! I was rather surprised by the thread you opened about SC's application system, as the process was overall quite smooth for me, but glad you still decided to apply. Which region are you applying for?

I too applied for London IG....

how long after you submitted your essay questions did you hear back? did you have an interview face-to-face? how was it? any special questions?

I heard back really quickly, less than a week after I applied they asked me to schedule myself in for a telephone interview. The interview was supposed to be 30 minutes but mine went over by quite a bit....it was intellectually stimulating and enjoyable, and unlike any other banking interviews, it was alot about my fit and my personal opinions on issues related to my degree and various aspects of my life. I felt the questions were really tailored to the applicant and not really generic, so I guess there are alot of special questions but things you can't really prepare for, if that makes any sense? I would say know about the company but don't fret otherwise, it's more about the way you think than what you know.

many thanks for that...

are you based in London or elsewhere?

Was the interviewer nice?

Apart from the special question, do you feel that the rest were part of a standard interview?

Yup I'm based in London. She was very friendly and knowledgeable, do make the best of the opportunity at the end of the interview to really ask her some questions about SCB to get information you wouldn't be able to get otherwise on the website!

It wasn't just one special question that I got asked during the interview, I would say most of it isn't standard, as it were....I think the only standard question I got asked was 'Why SCB?'

Yeah, I think I met her already at a company presentation in London...there we were told that we would have a face-to-face interview if we manage to reach the 1st round. Now I see that you had a phone one...no idea...

sorry to bother you so much, any technical questions?

do you have any idea if you get a written case study in the final round and what it consists of? Seems to be specific to this company, never had it before.....

when is your last round?

Hi everyone,

I am applying the WB in HK and I have just received an e-mail saying that I had passed the group interview but it didn't state clearly when the next interview will be.

As far as I know, the next round of interview will be an interview with a HR manager? Who could share his/her experience? Oceans of thanks! and wish you all the best!

Joe

Hi Joe,

Congrats for your passing the group interview! Could you advise me about what questions were asked during your first and group interviews? I am just about to have a phone interview. It will be a great help if you can give me a tip. You can PM me if you want. Thanks,

hey guys i passd th einterview with HR... hav final interview with business manager -MD tomm any1 has gone thru it? would appreciate if sum1 could share their experiences

Mitchel316,

I read through your post and essay responses and thought I could offer some feedback, even though im not a specialist, but it may help you with future applications.

For me i didnt feel like you related your answers to banking enough, especially to wholesale banking, you need to be specifically talking about your skills and experiences that have allowed you to identify WB as your chosen career path, what those skills will help you to achieve within WB, how your character fits with the requirements of WB, basically you need to link your skills and personality to WB and how SCB would benefit from you within the WB team. Reading your responses, it felt like you were more skilled/ qualified for a technology based role, you discuss technology skills throughout but dont think about all the other things that make a banker - yeah you need to be able to use technology as a banker but technology isnt your role - banking is about people skills, numbers, team work, completing projects, hitting deadlines, perseverance, ambition, achieving targets, enjoying working with numbers, continual skill development etc, so to focus your answers on your technology skills will not help the reader see you as "an all round candidate", like i say, looks like your very suited to a technology role. Also, there is a fine line, you need to demonstrate leadership skills, but at the grad level you are pretty much at the bottom of the laddar and you wont be leading teams for quite a few years to come, so whilst you need to present yourself as someone who has the future ability and desire to lead, more importantly you need to show that you are a team player and someone who will add value to team discussions, be a positive source of new ideas and have positive eneregy. Lastly, i dont know how appropriate it is to discuss your intentions to shortly start looking for an MBA on a grad application, yeah, great, do an MBA after a few years of intensive experience, have a desire to do an MBA "at some appropriate time in the future" but at grad level the bank wants to know you are 100% committed to the role you are applying to and that your time and energy will be focussed on achieving great results as a grad, working for the bank, gaining great experience, not that your focussing on further academic study, like i say a few years down the line pursuing an MBA is a great idea, and a bank will maybe support it, but its not really appropriate on a grad application to say your looking to pursue an MBA now. Its all about how you word it, if you said "i have a desire for continual skill development and at some point in the future, when the time is right, I may pursue an MBA" this would probably be well recieved.

Anyway, just my thoughts and hope they are of use. Ive been in banking for 7 years so have a rough idea how people think.

Good luck

Anyone has had a final interview in london yet? is there an AC or just 1-1 interview? what kind of questions do they ask?

i've one possibly next week. thanks

Thank you very much for your good feedback Jimlondon.

I will try and do better next time, hoping there will be another opportunity.

Best Regards.
