Hi All

Does anyone have any information regarding the phone interview and Assessment Center for this programme?

I know that for all candidates applying for roles in european cities it is held in Paris, but i would be interested to hear if anyone has any information about the format of the day, questions and any useful tips.

Thanks in advance for your help,

mkchai

whens urs? i got my telephone interview coming next week

zwen

oh have you done your telephone interview? what date is yours? How is the interview? what questions did they ask?

dino1949

Hi Mkchai,

I got my telephone interview on 6 oct. What date is yours?

Noggvfdh

How long did it take to hear back after you did the online tests?

dino1949

five days after

zwen

one day maybe cause its weekday.

eric cartman

I was mid way through my application with SG but read on a forum that it is pointless to apply for an internship if you are not a postgrad or can't speak French.

Should I abide by that or still apply? Do they recruit on a rolling basis or wait till the deadline and get back to you?

mkchai

mine is on 6th as well , uk time 0700

dino1949

Hi mkchai,

Your interview was early. How was it? What kind of questions they ask?

Thank you in advance.

mkchai

what skills make u outstanding ur long term career prospect creative idea which make reality teamwork which faced challenegs work under pressure example what u found most challgeieng during studies last time u had communicatin problem

crystal0733

Thanks for shareing, mkchai. I just booked my phone interview today, it will be hold on next Saturday. Has din01949 taken the interview? What are the questions had you been asked? Thanks in advance

banzaimonkeys

Hi mkchai,

Thats very kind of you to post that - thank you!

How long did your interview last? Were their any technical questions? Were those the only questions they asked? Did they probe you for further answers to question?

Best of luck with your application mate.

Thanks!

mkchai

20-25 mins, no technical, this is for operations tho

yea they probe into the quetsion a bit, but it shldnt be a concern im sure

banzaimonkeys

Hi mkchai,

Thank you for your kind reply!

Is there any chance you could elaborate slightly on the questions that they ask? e.g. 'Give us an example of a creative idea which you have thought up that made reality'?

I would very much appreciate any help you could offer me.

Thanks!

dino1949

Sorry for the late update. The questions were pretty much thesame as what mkchai listed. Except: What skills do you think you are suitable and what do you want to gain from socgen?

What do you see yourself in next five years? Give me a time you had a conflict on the communication and how did u overcame it?

Mkchai: did you get back from them?

zwen

Hey Dino,

What role did u apply for?

banzaimonkeys

Hey dino,

thanks so much for this!

Were there any technical questions or anything like 'what have you read in the markets'?

any chance of you elaborating slightly on mkchai's reply of the questions they asked similar to how you have done it?

Many thanks!

banzaimonkeys

also, following zwen's comment, what position did you apply for? how long did it last for dino?

has anyone heard back yet?

thanks

crystal0733

Thanks very much for the sharing, dino

dino1949

I applied for research role in global markets.

I submitted in the early of sept, then i got the interview invitation 7 days after finishing the numerical test on 20th-ish sept.

eric cartman

Is SG interviewing for internships already or do they go through grad position first?

banzaimonkeys

Hi dino,

I have applied for global finance.

any chance you can elaborate slightly on the questions they asked you and the questions that mkhai wrote?

How long did your interview last?

have you heard back yet?

many thanks

spitou

hello all,

I applied for G finance and got my numerical 2 days after and 2 days after got an invitation for the phone interview

zwen

hello

I got a new question for phone interview. Have you ever done something fun? Assessment centres 6th of december london, and 29th november paris

crystal0733

Hi zwen, Thanks for sharing the question, when did you know the time for the assessment centre? Did you know the result of your phone interview immediately after you finishing it? Or what kind of feedback did you get form the interviewer?

banzaimonkeys

Has anyone heard back from the interview yet - I had my interview on Monday, still no response - getting a bit nervous now!

pap25

I had my interview today also, but they did not tell me when they are going to reply. The questions were almost the same as mkchai stated them. I applied for a Global Finance role. No technical questions at all.

banzaimonkeys

how do you think you did? did you get a woman with her surname ending Smart?

pap25

It was a woman. But I did not pay that much of attention to her name. Well, I believe I could have done better, I really dont have any excuses. I could have done better on the conflict question especially. I kind of lost my momentum half way of the question. The creative thing you have done question was also tricky. Overall it was not a difficult interview, however the competition status will make the final decision of our individual assessment.

jack85

Hi All.

Can someone tell me what kind of test (e.g. SHL or PSL) SocGen uses?

Thank you in advance.

pap25

SHL

jack85

Thank you pap25!

dino1949

It has been almost 2 weeks since i had the interview. Also, i emailed the team for the outcome last sunday and still has not got reply yet. Fingers crossed!

bittersweet88

i have applied for IBD in Hong Kong with my first telephone interview next week. Does anyone have any tips to share?

banzaimonkeys

bittersweet88 - read this thread, its almost a guide on what to expect.

dino1949 - i am also yet to hear, not sure when we can expect to. she said well before the ass cent on 6th december though - so maybe in a week's time?

but your right - fingers crossed!!!

zwen

Sigh..why are they taking so long..

mhakkinen68

bittersweet88, I did not see any IB positions for HK for the grad program. Are you actually applying for a summer internship?

mhakkinen68

Out of curiosity, socgen extends interviews to EVERYONE who meet their application criteria and pass the numerical tests, dont they? Anyone knows of someone not being granted a phone interview?

mhakkinen68

hswoo.lse

Hi i just have a quick question I finished my application with Societe Generale IBD M&A in London and need to take the numerical test. After how long did you guys have to wait for them to reply in regards to setting up a phone or first round interview.

bittersweet88

hi mhakkinen86,

i searched for full time graduate positions in IBD and the ones that showed up were 2 positions in global finance whose roles are roughly linked to IB.

and i'm not sure if socgen grants phone interviews to everyone. this is my first time applying to soc gen.

abi_ibd

i doubt they do... that would be wierd... but they send out invites to 1st round pretty quick...

dino1949

Has anyone heard back about the first round?

crystal0733

The guy who interviewed me said they will sent me email with update information after a couple of weeks, after finishing this round interview for all the candidates on the short list.

abi_ibd

Just finished SG interview... overall it was OK or a little difficult...

one question that caught me off guard was "display a time you demonstrated integrity & professionalism" .... I was like WHAT???? Took a min to think and gave an OK answer i suppose...

The interviewing lady told me that for Asia IB position, assessment centre is targeted for sometime Nov 22 onwards.... so that should give u an idea of the time frame...

abi_ibd

also, surprisingly.. the HR doesn't make the decision about who goes to the next round and not... the interview answers are sent to the recruiting team and then they decide...

mhakkinen68

abi_ibd,

I was told the AC for HK was on 22nd November. Did not know they actually plan to run multiple sessions on different days for the same business.

What do you mean the HR doesnt decide who gets through to the next round? Aren't the recruiters effectively the HR? Or do you mean the desk/team decides who gets to attend the AC?

I presume the phone interview wasn't outsourced and was done by SocGen staff themselves.

abi_ibd

basically the HR lady told me that line managers will decide who goes to the next round... that's why she was typing down the answers I was giving...

Your right AC for HK is 22nd Nov... but she mentioned something about a week after or before... cant remember what exactly... I guess we find out about the outcome of the 1st round interview, the week before...

abi_ibd

well... sad news... got my rejection today... tear drops roll down my eye... HSBC interview tomorrow atleast.. yay... SOB
