Quick Bloomberg Q for Anyone with experience of Interviews

52 replies [Last post]
John D Dorian

Had an interview yesterday - was wondering the time period for getting back to people/whether the longer it is the lower the chances - ie - the way law firms operate.

Redsuperted

Was it a final interview?

Generally offers are given within 48 hours of a final interview - things do depend on how busy people are at the company though, and how many other people are being interviewed/how many jobs there are.

John D Dorian

It was a final interview. Think they might be interviewing others the last two days seeing as I specifically asked to be interviewed early in the week and they seemed reluctant.

Was only the one job. Will have to wait and see.

does anyone have experience on Bloomberg interview, please share it to me. Many thanks

aatish

Hi arincdam,

Can you please tell me how many days did it take for Bloomberg to evaluate your results of the online test. I just gave my online test in C.

Thanks,
Aatish

arincdam

Hi AAAtish, for me it took about a week ( but i had interpreted it rightly before they got back to me) . It all depends upon location/number of people applied/number of evaluators available with BBG for looking at your script. BTW where r u located? if u have a snapshot of the result u can send it across to me + the post applied for , i can pretty safely tell u whether u qualify for it or not? PM for mail id .

I have done Bloomberg tele interview/1st round interview and shadowing and the 2nd round interview.

Usually they will get back to you within 1-2days time. They are pretty fast in that respect.

navatha

Hi NERVA10 , Did you give any online test before that telephonic round? What kind of questions did they ask..i have chosen C as my language.

navatha
NERVA10

Hmm i didn't do any online tests. At the time I was referred to by a bloomberg employee after they met me in the career fair for the financial sales and analytics role. I did remember them testing our language by paper form. Other than that it was pure interviews/shadowing for me.

paulankonekar

Hi Navatha, How was your C interview at Bloomberg? what kind of questions were you asked? how was the experience? It would be great if you could list the questions they asked. Thanks.

The first interview was maybe 4 weeks ago a phone interview, the second was last week.....They sent me an email one hour after the first interview, and after the face to face interview it was 6 days after!I have any idea about the salary...some peaple said it's about 23k...i hope it's more!!:)

G-host

thanks zaza84, that was helpful

G-host

Hi zaza84,
Would u be kind to give me more details about the Bloomberg recruitment process? What did ur second stage entail, was it in the london office, could u be more specific about the questions asked, does everyone go thru the 3 stages before an offer? I look forward to ur feedback. Thanks

zaza84
G-host

@zaza84
Did u try responding to my questions?

mint mint

hey guys

the third and usually the last interview is a quick chat with a leading HR person and a head of the division or other senior person from the division you are applying to... for me all the interviews were very similar - different people - almost the same questions. Most of them were competency based - why bloomberg, why me, why division, where else have you applied, what are your future plans, random questions about economy, what type of news stories i'm usually more interest into, tell me about yourself and they will definitely ask you about your previous job experience. I had an internship last summer, so they asked me questions around that - what i enjoyed, what i disliked, that kind of thing.
All the interviews were really enjoyable. There were times when I could see them intentionally trying to challenge me, but in a good way.
for me from the initial telephone interview till the offer took about 3 weeks. and their starting salary is higher than 23k. Even public sector is paying more than that 25k-28k, so commercial sector is paying higher.
good luck, lovely people

@mint mint,
This is truly awesome of you. thanks a million. To say ur contribution is great would be an understatement. I ve got my invite so i am looking forward to it with great expectations. Pls if there is anything more u feel we should know, kindly share.
Thanks again

zaza84

@mint mint: Thank youuuuu!!that's all I wanted to know:)

Hi Everyone,

I am being interviewed for Summer Internship - Software Developer Intern by Bloomberg. I have cleared the online test in C and now have a phone interview. Can someone who have had a phone round let me know what kind of questions do they concentrate more in the phone round. Are they very particular about the answers or an approach explanation would also do? Please let me know.

mint mint

g-host & zaza84 & others: good luck guys, i'm sure you'll do well; if you are looking for additional information here, it already shows that you are really interested in bloomberg and want to excel in the interview!

@ navatha: the recruitment process for software developer might be different from other divisions. However, I'm sure they will ask you: why bb, why software development, why you, what you know about bloomberg and what is your technical experience/knowledge... and are you passionate about finance enough to work with the financial data.. best of luck!

G-host

Thanks mint mint, sincerely do appreciate

@mint mint:I have my first round of interviews coming up for my analytics and financial sales programme at the 26th of this month.it is supposed to be a competency based interview and shadowing the team.I remember you mentioning testing languages and stuff.what languages do they test?and could you tell me about the recruitment process in detail with special reference to the first round?
I would also appreciate if you could give me your e-mail address as I would like to clarify more doubts.
thanks a lot.

mmc792

Hi mint mint, could you post a lil more info about the second interview? thanks

mint mint

hi guys, just to make it clear, i did not apply for sales and analytics, but data... so the interview I had might be different from what you guys might get.. However, I'm sure it is fairly similar (but that is only my guess). So the second interview too was a competency based one. So allover again you would be expected to talk about your passion for bloomberg, finance and convince them that you stand out from a crowd of thousands of applicants in your of special way - by being yourself, being confident and relaxed.
So, yes, i mainly got questions about my motivation to work for bloomberg and to work in finance - but you have to back it up with some examples that proves your point. I doubt that it will be enough if you just say that you think that bloomberg is an amazing company... you'll have to show them that if you really want to work for them what have you done to find out more about the company - have you been there previously, have you applied before, have you spoke to people who work there?
Then - why do you think, in your case, you would be good for sales (data, analytics etc)? Are you confident and personable enough to build a rapport with anyone easily? (I am not quoting the actual questions as I cannot remember them exactly, but was the main drift)....
And questions around your previous work experience/internships/full time work - they tend to be rather tailored to your experience and what have you written on your CV... And finally the role play type of questions such as "You get an angry phone call from a furious client, how would you act in this situation?"
I personally enjoyed the interview, naturally, I was a bit nervous just because I really wanted to work for BB and exactly in this scheme, but I tried to remember that being nervous wont help me!
Good luck guys, be yourselves and smile a lot (if that's what you normally do)! :-)

G-host

Thanks again mint mint. Reading from u just makes the process look easy and achievable.

Hi everyone,

So the second in-house interview is pretty much the same as the first one but with managers of the department.

Just be yourself, some of the questions you can't really prepare for, but they want to see the real you so relax and show them that you want the job.

They get back to you within 24 hours to let you know whether or not you got the job.

I start in August.

Good luck!

Hi Britney1,

I have recently just been offered a job in Bloomberg, just wondering that what's the process after that you have verbally accepted the offer? I have been informed to come to collect the contract tomorrow, but the HR who contacted me has not mentioned anything about bring my certificates etc. apart from my ID to get into the building. Because I have already graduated, so I'll start this month, I won't know exactly till I collect the stuff tomorrow. However, I thought that I might just ask you that what's your process after you've accepted the offer?

Many thanks

Jo

Britney1

Hi Jo,

Congratulations on getting the position.
I haven't received the contract yet, just verbally accepted the job. Apparently contract is on it's way to me.

Anyone attended a recruitment event for Data Processing summer internship at Bloomberg? If yes, did they get back to you or not yet?

kryptonian

Hey guys, am a bit of a newbie here, congrats those who got offers, and thanks a lot for all the posts having a idea of what the day would look like made it easy to get relaxed and be yourself..

just had a query about the 2nd in-house interview, did it involve technical questions eg dcf/ cds/ etc

I got contacted saying to schedule a time to meet with head of analytics for emea, was it the same for you guys?

If anyone has any ques regarding the phone or 1st interview will be happy to help, although zaza, mint mint and britney done a great job already :)

Britney1

Hi,

Yeah it was exactly the same for me.

There were a couple of technical questions like that yes, I don't have a finance background so I think they were happy to know that I understood what things like that are, but they didnt seem to expect an expert knowledge (understandably) they want you to be interested and to know that you follow the news.

Above all be yourself, it really is very similar to the first in-house interview.

Good luck

kryptonian

Britney, thanks for that, will do my best!! :)

calliver

hiya kryptonian - whens your interview with Head of EMEA? I heard I might have to be interviewed by them too!

kryptonian

hi Calliver..its at 11am today!! wish me luck!

calliver

VERY Best of luck for today!!! - hope it went really well.
Let me know how it went - I'm in on Monday....!

kryptonian

Hey calliver, didnt go very well tbh, i thought the previous rounds went really well

the questions were random/and i found them really tricky, and the hr/sales person who was also supposed to come didnt so just financial knowledge testing, which i found hard since so many news stories i cant know about everything :P

also technical stuff wasnt what i have studied before, like delta etc..i was just honest with everything but no idea if i did ok, Britney how did you find it? coz he was a bit harsh on the questions i didnt know about, were you sure you did well after yours?

Britney1

No! I almost cried after mine because I was so convinced I'd messed up. So maybe just wait and see, hopefully they could see that you were really trying and really want this. They can work on knowledge its the interest/passion they are looking for.

kryptonian

Thank you for that!! I was enthusiastic but most of all just honest that i want to work there and the role eg customer service of analytics seems a better fit for me than the working in a bank as in my internship, because of how i am as a person and the reward etc and it is what i enjoy etc

but was hoping it to go much better, like in other rounds, he didnt seem happy about not knowing advanced topics so i explained what i had studied, and that the stuff he was asking me about i only knew slightly coz i had slightly researched on my own eg delta hedging

but thanks for that Britney will see how it goes :)

switch_ak47

hi everyone,

i have an interview with bloomberg on friday with regards to a summer internship in the data compliance team. Has anyone got anypointers they can share???? please as i really want to get this internship??

RomPoets

I have an interview with bloomberg for a finance administration summer internship. Will greatly appreciate any tips. Have never been to a face-to-face interview before. Please, please, please help as I urgently want this internship.

spud17

For Analytics (London) what kind of information do they require after you accept the offer, I was told that I need ID and visa/passport status, do they also ask for certificates and transcripts, if so which certificates do they ask for (university, high school etc)

RomPoets

Thanks. Somebody from HR ( Bloomberg) emailed asking me to specify a convenient date ( which I gave but had since lapsed) for an interview. I never heard back from them. Hence the interview never materialised. Wondering whether I should contact Bloomberg or just let it rest.
