Morgan Stanley - anyone heard back?
Hi everyone,
just a quick question to morgan stanley
i applied for an IBD full-time grad role about 2 weeks ago and status still says "application received"
wondering whether they review on a rolling basis or wait for the deadline first
Has anyone got through to the online testing yet?
thanks
yes, that can be quite tricky
you need to click until you reach the careers page, then there is a small link "my account", click on that, you should be asked to log in..
quite hidden and a lousy application system I must say :(
hello,
Does any one have morgan stanleys email add for careers?
Thanks
My status has progressed from "Appl received" >>> "Appl under review"
Guess they will wait till the deadline to give invites even for online tests
I'm in the same boat as you, hazelground. I applied on the 6th of October, and my application status is 'received.' I haven't gotten any invites for MS online tests, although I was prompted to take the Credit Suisse tests, which I applied for at the same time.
I applied for IBD analyst
Same here... just got rejection for the Feb start as well in operations
I read in an interview with MS head of EMEA recruitment that most of their Operations & IT grad full times will be filled this year by those who did an internship there.
browncargos
Well then they sud not still accept applications sligthly unfair too be honest!
But nevamind!
CK
hey guys, i am sorry to hear that...
it is unfair to let people apply just to reject them later.
any ideas or news about their intake for IBD, or should i also expect a rejection soon?
hazelground
depends if interns have taken over LOL... just keep ur fingers X :)

Iv been invited to a "test session" next week at Morgan Stanley.
I applied to the Operations Feb start programme.]
Anyone else going too?!
hey strat.. are you going for the test sessions to their office in canary wharf..
i have been invited too next week.. when is yours??
Strat and hardrock....Ive also been invited nxt week for Operations Feb start for nxt monday.... You lot made progress with any other banks??
What would the accuracy test consist of btw?
yeh thats right, im going weds in Canary Wharf.
Hey Mts, as for others iv got final round at RBS, 2nd round at Standard Bank, probable assessment centre at Barcap, first round interview at RCM.
I didn't have much luck with apps last year, but this year I seem to be nailing all of them!
hey mits,, no great luck so far.. had an assessment centre at jp.. stil to hear,,
anyways do any of u have an idea wats this Q&A session is about..
anyways hope to see u there.
hey hardrock
are you going for the test this week??I applied for the same role and received the email regarding to the telephone interview.
It's quite strange!!do u have the tele interview with MS b4??
no i didnt.. the first stage after the application is the aptitude tests in MS office..
anyways all the best fr ur telephonc interview!!
i've had 2 phone interviews with morgan stanley and have been invited to a technical face to face interview in a few week.s Still waiting to hear on the date.
Applied for Corporate Technology in Glasgow. It's gonna be tough as only 3 roles are available for Aug 2010 start!
Hi,pm13!
would u share your telephone interview question with me,please!I got one in next few days.
Is that 30 min competency based?
thx!!
good luck
Just got an invite to their Cambridge Assessment evening - which apparently doubles up for their first round interviews. Does anyone know what to expect, or what the format of evening will be? Any comments or experience will be much appreciated!
these interviews are all Operations / Finance / Tech. right? not IBD?
I hope it's not for IBD, because I haven't heard anything or seen any change in my application status. IBD in London is all I applied for.
harryleo: they ask you basic competency questions such as why you want to work for morgan stanley, what you know about the company and examples of teamwork and leadership.
My interview lasted about 40 mins but make sure you're well prepared to talk at length about what you know about the company.
i applied for the IBD division, dunno how they're handling invitations. Has anyone been to one of these evenings?
Hi pm13
thx for your sharing. What is the next stage after tele interview? It seems quite strange. Most people go to london to do the test first but we get the interview first??
Anyway,good luck!!
the next stage is a face to face technical interview at the Glasgow offices. Haven't received any info about it apart from it's this month.
Yeah I think with Technology, it's up to the individual offices how they recruit.
Hey guys,
Anyone heard anything for full-time roles from IBD?
well, I attended an event recently where I had the chance to meet a senior member of graduate recruitment from MS.
Not trying to discourage anyone but upon seeing her, I realised why I never get to hear back from morgan stanley...LOL
hope nobody will get mad upon reading this....but yeah, it was a kind of eye-opener for me...
good luck to everyone!
hey Hazel, want to elaborate on that??
I also attended the MS event in their London office last week.
@mcikenncj
hi. what i conveyed was my personal perception of things based on the conversations taking place at the end...
I do have all reasons to be negative about this firm because last year they kept me app on hold for about 5-6 months before rejecting me... something tells me that this time they have just a handful of FT roles in IBD yet they still go on an aggressive hiring campaign, totally rubbish.
what did you apply for?
Oh yeah I understand! I applied for a M0 / BO internship. From what I am hearing, these roles are (as with evrrything else really) much more difficult to get now as many existing FO staff have been moved to BO roles, rather than being sacked.
Yeah I guess they just want to attract the very best. Like this year, one of the 'big 4' came to promote its internship campaign...well over 200 people were in attendance (and this was only at my particular university).....and right at the end they said they only had ONE place available in the country! After all the money they spent advertising it?!!
Frustrating!
well, I have another hilarious story to tell. I received a negative outcome from ms one week ago and just now I just checked my application status as I applied other positions. I just found out the position I applied for and got a negative answer with "accepted" status. I just can't believe it. It was an analyst position for op division. Any suggestion ?
hey, you can try contacting them and ask for clarification, but dont expect too much as mistakes do happen
mine still says "app received" for IBD... :((
MS has always been a very selective institution. Unless you have done an internship with them; you are unlikely to be hired. The culture is very old school (some say blue blooded) when it comes to MS; but there are some exceptions. Especially if your name is Euan Blair; the son of Tony Blair. Apart from being ex-PM of the UK; Tony Blair is also a Director with JP Morgan. So those of you who want a back door into investment banking with the Morgans; get your father into politics ;-)
@ 20BePositive09
the exact same thing happened to me as well on last friday(for ope feb start) i emailed them and asked for clarification. they emailed me back on monday and said it was still rejection. they didnt explain why the status was changed to 'accepted'. very annoying.
20BePositive09,
I just checked my app. status on the their site today, and it has now gone from 'reviewed' to "congratulations you have been invited to the interview stage we will be in contact with you shortly". However after reading your post, I am a little worried now!!
Surely, they cannot make this same mistake all the time?! I have not received an email from them telling me that my app. being brought to the next stage though...
20BePositive09, that sounds terrible...was ur app. for an internship or grad role???
Mcikenncj,
Take a print screen of the application status. If they end up rejecting you in the future; tell them you were successful and it is not fair and provide them with the print screen view. Thats a long shot but no harm in trying hah.
Hi Londoncalling, I totally understand. well I will email them anyway... Could you please kindly let me know their graduate recruitment email address ? morganstanley@peopleclick.com ??? just weird cause it is not ended with @morganstanley.com ... thank you in advance.
mcikenncj, I applied for a grad role. To be honest, I think your case is normal than mine. Good luck !
Aj, I think it depends on the division or case by case. I know ppl started at ms without doing an internship at ms and their family have no political background :) (but they work in NY and Asia ... not London). But another one did two internships at ms and just signed for M&A. (He is a very very very hard working ppl. and really deserve it.). I know ppl do work hard for this but sometimes we need sth like Liquid Luck. Good luck to everyone !
20BePositive09,
I agree with you; I was just trying to make this thread a little light hearted lol; not a single person on this thread have said anything positive so far. I have met Euan Blair and one of his colleagues at a very selective event last year. After meeting both of them; I was convinced that it would be a nightmare to work alongside these two pillocks/egomaniacs. MS (particularly the M&A division) specialises on employing pillocks such as these two (with all due respect to all other down to earth MS employees).
@20BePositive09
this is their email add. :)
graduaterecruitmenteurope@morganstanley.com
@Aj
hey, that's really funny what you wrote...
i feel my chances of an interview in IBD are now totally gone, but I dont care anymore :))
what division did you apply for?
any further updates on the app process?
cheers
so be fairly honest, I wouldnt want to work at MS. I understand the reputation and all, but they are not very nice people to be around with........ the culture isnt supportive at all....... atleast that's what I felt.
There is sth very interesting. I do not know if you guys notice. On their website, "our people" http://www.morganstanley.com/about/careers/culture/profiles/index.html?id=330 almost everyone mentioned " they are friendly, supportive..." and not everyone from OxBridge :P May I call it marketing ? :)
yes, they are right. Not everyone is from Oxbridge or LSE or top5.............. you do have to count the back office...... and ofcourse the HR!!!!
Anyways, that doesnt matter to me - where the people are from. It's just the way they are...... There are some nice people though.... met a few!
Well, I do not mind working at ms :P but I do not want to become someone I do not like later -.-
I got a phone call from an analyst from one of their teams to arrange a phone interview. Submitted my app for London IBD about 2 weeks ago, and I'm not from oxbridge/LSE. They mentioned they do most of their recruiting in December.
Goodluck mate!!!
P.S. I am from one of those notorious schools though.

I applied to PWM and nothing yet.. Where do you see the status of your application? What is the address for applicant login? I can't seem to find it.
Thank you
