Lloyds TSB Telephone Interview
Hi Guys,
Has anyone done a telephone interview with Lloyds TSB recently?
It would appreciated if you guys shared your experience
Thanks,
I did one for Lloyds in Feb and it was purely competency based. When they emailed to confirm my phone interview time they sent an attachment with the competency areas that they were testing - wasn't too hard and lasted about 30 mins if I remember. They only asked for one example for each competency. I remember being asked for an example about teamwork, personal responsibility and a time a colleague behaved unethically, but can’t remember much more. The format might have changed for this year though.
hi rachel..how did ur telephone interview go? any advice would be grateful thanks.!!
Do they ask how you'd feel working in the public sector, having originally applied for a private company...?!
Economy specific careers joke there.... but seriously, no they talk much about the whole credit crunch/public sector buy out/government owning 43% of Lloyds TSB / HBOS at all?
Has anyone recently had a phone interview with Lloyds for the summer intern programme?
What sort of questions do they ask, eg are they mainly competency/market based etc? I have an interview on Thursday and it would be useful to know where to focus my preparation.
Thanks
Hi,
Here are the questions that I was asked when I had mine:
-Why Lloyds TSB?
-Why this programme?
-What importance does the discipline you have applied to, have in the day to day running of Lloyds TSB?
-How is Lloyds TBS different from its competitors?
-How is this programme different from other programmes?
-What benefits do you think you would gain if your placements would be in different parts of the country
-What issues do you think Lloyds TBS could be facing at the moment?
-Tell us about any leadership positions you may have held?
-Tell us about a time when you have worked in a team?
-Tell us about a time when you have dealt with failure?
I hope it helps.
it's your typical 45 minutes to 1 hour jobby. lloyds tsb and hbos ask some of the same questions (not surprisingly)
i wasn't successful with lloyds tsb, so i emailed them to ask which competencies i had fallen down on and they rang me straight back to go through each question with me! I found this very refreshing and a stark contrast to supposedly professional organisations like PwC
Can someone help? I have a telephone interview with Lloyds tomorrow for call centre job. Please I need likely questions.
Has anyone done for such role in the house.
It is very urgent please.
Hi Titus
How did your interview go? What questions did they ask?
Cheers
I can fill in a little. For the internship telephone interview (what I had) it lasts about 45 minutes and is pretty much split into commercial awareness and competencies. Competencies are standard but on commercial awareness make sure you know how everything you talk about effects Lloyds directly - they seem very keen on you applying what you know to Lloyds. Also know a bit about who their main competitors are and what advantages Lloyds has over them (dont say none - what I said). If anyone needs more help on that or the assessment centre following it feel free to ask :)
I applied for a Graduate position.
Its quite a tough interview with Competency based questions. They also ask a lot of very probing questions on why you have chose to work for them and your motivations for the sector.
So make sure you're up to scratch on:
-the background information of the group
-competitors and its relation with them
-the financial industry in general and all the challenges etc...
-why you want to work in Lloyds
-why you want to work in that sector
-why you you have chosen that sector
-what you will give to lloyds and the chosen sector..
So yeah pretty hard core...I kind of messed up, as I focused to much on my skills and knowledge of my chosen sector an not on the Lloyds and the banking sector
Hi guys, first- time poster here.
I've got through to the telephone interview stage, and I'll be honest, I know very little about the financial services sector. I was wondering if there were any good easy-to-understand sources on the internet where I could get up to scratch on the technical side of Lloyds Banking. Obviously I have been looking on the Lloyds website as well as wikipedia, but some of it is a bit too technical for me.
I know I have left it a little late to be brushing up on this stuff, but any help would be appreciated nonetheless.
What I'd say is try wikepedia and look at the BBC. I think try to get a rounded view on things like characteristics of the bank and its competitors... I'm clued up on financial stuff, but drew up upon ideas and views of the bank from viewpoints of the media and general puplic. So things like how the recession is effecting the banks growth and public confidence in the banking system
Hi,
I somehow passed my telephone interview and have got through to the assessment centre this month. Has anybody had theirs or got any tips on how to prepare and what to expect?
Any help is much appreciated : )
Thanks
Congrats pepsi. Mine is on friday, absolutely dreading it. Which department did you apply for?
Also, do you have any tips on top of what has already been said in this thread?
Cheers
Hi Guys
I have applied to the graduate leadership programme at Lloyds Banking Group & have a telephone interview.
Can anyone tell me what questions they will be asking on a telephone interview. i.e what do they want me to talk about etc. Ill really appreciate your help guys.
Cheers :)
Hi Hazihaz,
Have you had your telephone interview yet? If so would you mind sharing your experience?
Thanks
Hi
There are no slots available to book the telephone Interview when I log in.
I been told I should keep trying and wait till more telephone Interview become available.
Have you booked your interview yet?
I managed to book one about 2 weeks ago and had it this afternoon. I initially applied for Finance graduate scheme but the vacancies are filled now so they automatically transferred me to the General Management scheme, not one I particularly want but did the telephone interview anyway.
Mine lasted around 45 minutes and consists of 3 parts:
Part 1-
Questions about the programme applied for and the banking sector:
-Why Lloyds?
-Why the specific programme you've applied for?
-Customer facing role is included in the scheme - how did that influence your decision to apply?
-Relocation required for the scheme- how did that influence your decision to apply?
-What importance does your programme have to lloyds banking as a whole?
-What issues do you think are affecting Lloyds?
-What issues are affecting the banking industry?
-How is Lloyds different from its competitors?
-Who do you think are Lloyds competitors?
-What skills could you contribute to the particular scheme you've applied for?
Part 2-
Competencies
- What has been your biggest challenge to date?
- Tell me about a time when you've come up with ways to do things differently?
- Tell me about a time when you've been part of a team that was failing to meet a goal?
- Tell me about a time when you've organised something with a team?
- Tell me about a time when you have dealt with failure?
Part 3-
Time to ask the interviewer questions about the programme you've applied for.
(For all answers you give there is a possibility she may delve deeper and probe you so make sure you are thorough in your answers if you are not comfortable with this)
Not sure how well the interview went as she probed me quite a lot, but apparently I will find out in 2-3 days...
Good luck to all who have the telephone interview coming up!
Hi
Hope you get to the next stage.
Im still struggling to book a slot for my telephone Interview.
Yeah I applied to the Finance programme but I was transfer to Management but oh well!
The questions you posted above were these the actual questions they asked or was that in a document which Lloyds have given to you via email to have a look at before the interview.
Anyways all the best :)
Got an email today to say i didn't get through =( oh well!
The questions above are the ones I actually got. The document they give you just tells you the STAR approach really, wasn't that useful.
Anyway, good luck to you! xx
hey klt, my situatio is exactly like yours, I applied for finance graduate scheme but they transferred me to general management. but I got confused of where to check the application status, when I log in, it's just a review page where I can update my contact details. is there any other place or what? I haven't heard from tsb since they told me I was transferred to general management. I assume that I might be doing a teleinterview but don't know anything about it.
MAKE sure u know about lloyds and their competitors!
I had mine a few days ago and finally thru to an AC!
hey prabzz how long did it take for you to hear back from them? had my telephone interview last week and still havent heard back from them!
they say 2days biut they never got bak to me!
ring them and find out, they got major issues with their system
Anyone that has been to the Lloyds AC shed any light on what we can expect, in terms of the type of case studies, group activities, presentations etc. Any help would be much appreciated
can anyone give me the telephone number of their recruitment team?thanks a lot
hi guys
all private banking jobs have been filled!
dont know about others! best to email them and chase them up guys!!

Hello, guys, I'm still at filling out application form stage..
I'm hesitating if I should add covering letter as one attachment although the section says "Your CV", does that mean they only need CV or both CV and covering letter?
Besides, the section "About you" asks about where you would like to work, should I explain with full text or just briefly specify where I'd like to work?
PLZZZ, HELP!!
Hi mz, I had the same dilemma but just thought I managed to get through the application stage without a covering letter so I don't think it's a necessity. hope that helps!
I had my telephone interview and it went terribly. It wasn't that the interviewer or the questions were hard, i was just s**t and so were my answers.
If anyone wants some advice then message me or write on the forum.
Hi guys
I have a telephone interview tomorrow..there has been some great info on here & wondering exactly how in depth my commercial awareness should be? It is for General Management.
Graci!!
I have just gotten off interview and found it a bit more difficult than had expected as thought I had done a fair bit of prep. Main prob was, I didn't know specific money probs of competitors, and think figures may have helped. Also was asked about the government role atm, and how it will determine future of banking. Got slightly different competency qs based on a challenge I have faced, when I have 'championed' a new approach, when I have worked as part of a team, and when I have organised a specific activity or event. Don't think it went well, but the woman was really nice, and accepted me once when I had a mind blank, repeating the q... Main prob was couldn't think of a couple of the competency answers without thinking back to school, which was a big prob, and at first I couldn't think of a specific activity or event I had organised. They do let you take a few mins to think though, and you don't need to say everything at once. If you look at the STAR format, they seemed to want you to say a point, then they ask the q about the next, so don't get verbal diarrhoea.
Hope this helps someone as I used this a lot in prep and wanted to give help to others!
hi all
i have applied to the general management scheme and was just wondering if anyone knows how many places are left, as some of the other schemes have filled up.???????
Just had my telephone interview, had these exact questions - think I fell down on the "how does Lloyds differ from its competitors?" one though!!
This is how it went:
Question >Answer >Anything else? > Answer 2> Is there anything else you can think of? > Answer 3 > Ok, is there anything else?> Answer 4 (= err...)
(AND REPEAT)
exactly how it went for me -> "is there anything more you can add?" "anything else?" etc. I didn't think I did very well when they kept asking, I stumbled and eventually said something like "anything I say further will be pure speculation/prediction on my part"! I got through though so don't let it worry anyone too much! good luck!
HELP:
For those talents who attended to the AC before. Could I ask whether the interviewer probed on the 'why lloyds' or 'why this division' or 'why this programme' the most?
I can answer 'why lloyds' and 'why this programme' as there are many information. Does the interviewer asked a lot about 'why this division'? Thank you :-)
Was just seeking the above if I could be offerred advice on the same...
Thanks and hear from you soon.
Does anyone know what is the time limit for doing the pyschometric tests for Lloyds Banking Group?
I applied for the finance internship last year and in the AC they didn't ask much about why the division or why the role...or programme for that matter. The interview in the AC is completely competency based, the guy even had a script to go through for me.
anyone had a recent telephone interview for the finance graduate role. What questions were you asked and was it gruelling.
Had one for the internship last year, not very gruelling. Just make sure you can apply everything you say to the company. They are very keen on "how does that affect Lloyds?". Know their competitors, what advantages they have over them and their current issues and problems. Obviously there is also the competency element.
Cheers, Jimmahi. Appreciate the response. What did you say about their competitive advantage. It is just about tailoring their services to meeting their clients needs; emphasis on corporate governance; measuring performance against key performance indicators and the fact that they have been voted the most trusted bank in numerous consecutive years which is fundamental in a time when public confidence in the banking industry is at an all time low; utilizing the strength of their other brands or were you more specific such as offering better rates than competitors.
Hi jjmotown1
Cud you tell me how long they took 2get bak 2 u after you took the online numerical test? It been over a week 4 me now and still nothing! Thanks

I have one on the 18th so help would be appreciated :)
