Hi all,

I have an assessment centre coming up for a grad position within the Operations division and have a few questions which I hope any of you might help. Questions are:

1) About the case study, could someone shed some light about what is involved and any preparation tips?

2) Is the interview only about how you think you have performed during the tasks assigned?

Cheers!!

Redsuperted

Just want to check you've seen - jpmorgan interview questions - it sounds like you have.

Not sure of the case study myself. The final interview is based on the presentation and case study at the assessment day but will feature other questions too. It will be tough. The most important thing is staying focused after the previous exercises and assessments.

Does the jpmorgan interview questions profile match your experience of the JPMorgan assessment process? The profile could use a little clearing up - any help you can provide us is greatly appreciated!

ad10 - this interview was a while ago wasn't it? Could you please let me know some pointers on what happened? ..how I shoudl prepare.. etc?!

ad105055

My assessment centre is not till a couple of weeks. But I really wanted to get an insight of what the case study is about to help me with my preparation.

Casper - when is your assessment date?

casper

Late August. Could use some help!

Hi I have an AC with JPM, can you please share what was the when u appeared to give me an insight into what they ask? thnks!

ad105055

The AC basically consists of a case study, a presentation which is based on the case study, group work discussing further the case study further and an interview to conclude the day.

Hi all

I have an AC with JPM Ops on the 6th, which is the last AC day and was wondering if anyone could share their experiences on what was asked from the AC's beforehand, and how the case studies and interviews went? any other useful insights?

thanks!

CK

hey guys!

Are your postions for internships or graduate positions??

thanks

JGwl

Im going in for an internship position CK, how about you?

CK

hi

I have applied for a graduate role.

blessedme

Hi JGwl,

Can u kindly share ur AC experience with us! Many thanks!

JGwl

Hi Blessedme,

I had my AC last week and it was all the basic stuff u would expect from an AC....We had a case study n presentation which we were given half an hour to prepare for before giving a presentation....u only give the presentation to one member of staff so its not that daunting! this is then followed by a short question and answer session where a page of standard questions are asked, none of them too difficult...at the end u are asked a few review question about how u think ur performance was.....next is the group task, which u will already know the format to, the case study here is the same as the individual presentation so u would have already had some good bkground......followed by the interviews.....the 1st is completely competency based, the second is very similar except with the standard why JPM and why Ops questions.....overall, the format and whole process is pretty standard and with good, thorough research you should be able to do all the tasks and answer all the questions asked. Hope that helps!

blessedme

Hi JGwl,

Thank you very much, and ur thread is really useful. I just have one more question. Can u talk a little bit more about the case study and group task. What are they about? Are they difficult? Thank you.

JGwl

I am not sure I can give details of the actual case study but as general advice....the case study itself is not overly complicated, you can use alot of your own input and ideas, and although some of these need to be specific to the case study, alot of it is generic and should come from general knowledge you have gained while researching ops......the group task is not difficult, all you have to do is talk about ur thoughts on whether you would pick a company over another...if you have a point, stick to it but be open to others viewpoints as well...listen to what the group have to say and make sure you come to a decision and write down whatever is required in the time allocated...hope that helps

blessedme

Hi JGwel,

Thank you so much for your help, and good luck with ur applications.................

JGwl

no problem! good luck to you too!

Unlucky

Dear All,

Just wanted to share my AC experiece for JPMOrgan Operations division.

1 ) Case Study : You will be gievn a scenario (a set of emails) and using that information, you have to come up with 3 different possible solutions to that problem i.e. how to handle all the data and improve operations etc. In addition to this, you have to highlight 3 advantages and 3 disadvantages of your stated choices. And then you have to present this in 10 minutes. Make sure you utilize your time effectively & efficiently. And then it will be followed by a 5 minutes Q & A session, in which you would be asked to criticize your own performance during the presentation and what else you could have done better to improve it? And what other things in hindsight might have assisted you with your conclusions? Also you will have to identify areas of improvement you feel would be neccesary for you to enhance your presentational skills. Also they will ask you to write down what were the good things you did during your presentation

2) Group Exercise: You will be given a different set of information pertaining to improving operations for a hypothetical Bank. You have numerical and theortical information about the location, costs, accessibility etc of servers holding all the data for the Bank and you have to debate which location, method of handling data, etc is important based on the facts and what effect it can have on the morale of the employes. Here you have to take into account all the costs and digits stated and use them to support your arguments. Make sure you keep on writing your agreed solutions on the ROUGH paper given to save you time at the end before you create you final set of solutions.

3) Interview : It is not much competency based, but is very important because they are only interested in the following questions
-) Why JPM? (mention 6 points on their website and elaborate)
-) Why OPS? (mention Client services, trade management, risk management in detail)
-) How do you fit in OPS? (highlight your skills makig specific references to the competencies)

You guyz will sail through....Though they are a bit unpredictable and can come up with any reason if they decide to reject you...so hope for the best.....

The reason why I know this is because I have been rejected 2wice at the AC and it was the same process....Although I felt I did extremely well on both the occaions but they came up with reasons which astounded me made me believe that it was all down to luck...

And everyone in the HR at JPM knonw me by name and recognize me....I know them inside out

Good luck guyz....

If you need any assistance or still have any questions do post here...

blessedme

Hi Unlucky,

Thank you very much for your post, which is really useful for me. I have an AC with JP next week for the finance graduate programme here in London, and I should be really gratefull if you could kindly answer the following questions:

1. How many rounds of interview did you have for the AC?
2. Are all interview questions about career motivation? any business awarness or competency based questions?
3. How long is/are the interview(s)?
4. How many people are involved in the group discussion?
5. How long does each exercise last for?

Thank you very much, and look forward to your reply.

Unlucky

Hi Blessedme !

1. How many rounds of interview did you have for the AC?

I had 2 rounds (on each occasion)

2. Are all interview questions about career motivation? any business awarness or competency based questions?

in the AC they focus more on career otivation, etc and I suggest you learn everything they have stated on their webste by heart and link that to your academic qualifications during the interview....no specific questions based on teamwork etc...but yes they migh sneal in 1 or 2 question on business awareness

3. How long is/are the interview(s)?

It depends...normally 40 mins....but make sure you answer everything IN DETIAL...cuz the assessors are smetimes tyring to rush u thru the questions...they did this to me this time and then told me I wasnt up t the mark in otivational questions (which absolutely FUMED me)

4. How many people are involved in the group discussion?

4 or 5 ( if in london then 5, if borunemuth then 4)

5. How long does each exercise last for?

Case study 40-45 mins
Interview 40 + mins
Group exercise 10 mins reading time (individual - without discussion), then 40-45 mins to discuss them and reach conclusions (WRITE EVERYTHING ON THE SHEET PROVIDED AS GO AONG)

Gud luck

Dear Unlucky,

I have an AC in a week and just found your thread on JPM Operation A/C. I'm wondering if I could ask you a few questions regarding this AC.

1. How much time are we given for preparation of case study? Do you think it stressful? (I don't read so fast since I'm not a native English speaker...)

2. How do you find the case study and group exercise? Do they take very technical knowledge or just common sense?

3. Do they have commercial awareness type questions for you in interviews?

Really appreciate your guidance. Thank you in advance.

Best of luck,
alexgoal

CK

Is this for a graduate scheme or an internship? and when would you start if its a grad scheme.

Hey guys!

I have a question for you. I have an interview in operations in Geneva (worldwild headquarter of operations with Mumbai) as a graduate position.

Please can you tell me about that kind of position? In my mind, I see operations as the "garbage" department contrary to investment banking and stuff. How much do you think the salary is?Bonuses? Benefits? Even if you don't know for Geneva, do you know how much they in London? Do you think a graduate position at JPMorgan in operation is better than a position as controller in a coporate company? Is it better paid in banking?

I would like to know your opinion :)

Thank all!
