HSBC application - What does status on "on hold" mean?

Having applied for the HSBC IM programme, I was recently informed that I had passed the initial selection and was thus invited to continue with the only aptitude tests. One day after completing them, the status of my application - as displayed by their online application system - was changed to "On Hold" and I received an automated email the next day which basically read:

Thank you for completing your recent on-line tests for the International Management Programme.

We are currently in the process of reviewing all application forms, and will be in touch with you to confirm the outcome of your application over the next few weeks.

Does anybody know how to judge the situation? Does it mean that I scored baldy at the test(?), but my application wasn't discarded but placed near the of the queue? Or is this just their standard procedure?

Any experience on how long it usually takes to proceed from the aptitude test to the phone interview? I mean they can actually evaluate the outcomes automatically which should allow them to move on swiftly?

Thanks!

HSBC

Hey,

I just did my aptitude tests, but I have no idea how I did, I think I was very blur during verbal.. anyways my status is : online tests completed. So i really have no clue why it's different from yours.. maybe it'll change tmrw and they'll send me an email like they did for u? we'll see.. lemme know if you find anything, it would really suck to fail at this stage!

Hey, I just got the same email and I'm too on hold! no clue what that means

21 October 2009 - 5:10pm

I just applied, how long did they for all of you to respond with the tests?

21 October 2009 - 6:19pm

i applied on oct 4 and they responded two days ago... but u'll get an email saying to wait 3-4 weeks..

27 October 2009 - 4:43am

has anyone heard about phone interviews?

27 October 2009 - 9:14am

@avam

they should mail you the tests within a couple of days if they like your application. that's the usual thing with hsbc...

good luck!

27 October 2009 - 9:32am

if they don't like you, do they just not reply? :) thx!

27 October 2009 - 10:03am

sorry, i did not mean to imply this, but fact is that you are more likely to get the tests in a few days if they like you

hope this helps :)

27 October 2009 - 2:19pm

thanks hazelground for the encouragement, I'm sure they liked your application!

27 October 2009 - 6:03pm

oh well...we'll see about that later on :))

which division did you apply for? grad or internship?

28 October 2009 - 2:23am

grad

28 October 2009 - 8:02am

me too !!!

Let's hope we hear some positive news from them very soon!

just be optimistic, things usually work themselves out :)

28 October 2009 - 10:24am

i didn't know they had IM internships! :) anyhoo i was invited for the tests 10 days after submission so i guess they do take some time.. waiting for smth after the tests but nothing so far :( oh well, all good things come to those who wait :)

29 October 2009 - 3:09am

I believe they are expecting loads of applications this year, considering the number of people who've been laid off and are looking for slightly off-beat careers

29 October 2009 - 3:35am

Yes but I do find it weird that they review before and after testing.. But it's no uncommon so..

30 October 2009 - 4:24pm

@hazelground: I should let you know that they 'liked' my application, got invited for the tests.

30 October 2009 - 4:56pm

LOL

well-done!

if you do the tests well, we might meet at the AC :)

31 October 2009 - 5:46pm

I just got an email from HSBC saying that I've met their minimum benchmark in the reasoning tests and that they would be contacting me on whether they'd invite me to the next stage. I guess loads of people met their minimum benchmark! Any views on this folks?

hey! i got an email from HSBC too but as I applied for both IM and another role for hsbc london, i thought that email was for the other role, not the IM role.. cause the email add was different...no clue? :)

4 November 2009 - 5:02am

i just checked.. it was for the other role. my status for the IM app still says on hold. It's been two weeks, wondering how long they will take. any views?

I did the verbal reasoning test for the IM programme, but unfortunately left out one question in the end, does this have any negative effect? I mean is this counted as a wrong answer. Any idea what on what the cut-off is for these tests?

4 November 2009 - 7:05am

well i think u dont get any points for that question.. the tests arent marked negatively so well.. it's only one question at least! no clue about the cut off. i took my test 2 weeks ago and i'm still waiting for a feedback! :( is ur application on hold now?

4 November 2009 - 7:38am

@avam

If you did all the other questions right, leaving a single one in the end will not impact your result and you may end up on the right track to the AC :)

what's your status now?

4 November 2009 - 11:15am

well, I've been asked to wait for the result of the tests

4 November 2009 - 11:28am

don't you think that all this recruitment process is moving really slow??

4 November 2009 - 11:46am

apparently, HSBC is doing the telephone interviews (IBD) this week and gonne be doing them for the next couple of weeks. Applications are being reviewed and the numerical test scores are being considered and interviews are being given out. She said, dont be too concerned as we are still going thru the applications, so you can expect to get an interview in the next few weeks if you are selected. - just spoke with HR.

4 November 2009 - 1:13pm

did anyone of you receive this sort of an email after finishing the tests, or did you get the result of the tests directly?

Thank you for completing your recent on-line tests for the International Management Programme.

We are currently in the process of reviewing all application forms, and will be in touch with you to confirm the outcome of your application over the next few weeks.
