Hi I have applied for a summer internship in Global markets at dutsche bank and have completed the online numerical test and the following message is showing in the track my app section:
You have successfully completed our numerical reasoning test. Your results have been submitted for review and you will be contacted shortly.

Does this mean that I have definitely passed the numerical test and that they are now deciding whether to interview me or are they deciding whether i have passed or not.
Also has anyone else applied for an internship and have you heard anything yet?? all help appreciated. thanks

yaz

According to me, it means that hey are "checking" your results and deciding whether or not to interview you.

But I am not an expert, so you should wait for another opinion, maybe someone who has already applied for Deutsche Bank ... I intend to do so during the week ;)

Good luck for your application, let us know what's happening ;)

Haps,

How long does it take for them to inform you that you need to take a numerical test after you submitted the application?

Jacky

Haps

I believe it taken about 3 weeks with my application.

Haps

Does anyone know how long they had to wait before they heard from deutsche bank regarding interview after they had taken the test?

Haps

And has anyone got a date for interview from db or are they still waiting to here? thanks

sscloud

I did a test about a day ago and they still haven't gotten back to me. For some reason DB seem to have a slower process than most other banks, I mean BarCap got back to me with a rejection in about 2 minutes after the verbal test (which was harder than usual BTW).

yaz

sscloud>

I took the Barcap numerical test, and then the verbal test, on Monday (or maybe Tuesday) and I didn't receive any answer yet, I mean I just received "Thanks for having taken the test, we'll get back to you...".

The verbal test I had was 90% the same I had with HSBC ... the only thing is that I tried to take it in French with Barcap, just to experiment it (I'm French), and I found it much difficult in French, words are...hmm...let's say too different in their meanings lol.

What kind of questions did you have ? Were there some about leadership, global warming, a firm that wanted to open a factory in Asia, machines that replaced chemical dangers by others ... ?

Haps

Hey cant believe it I jus got a reply back from deutsche bank saying that they will not be progressing my application further, i take it i havent done well on the numerical test even though i honestly thought i had done well. Anyhow ive still got to here fro my applications at credit-suisse and UBS hopefully ill have better look there.

angeline

Jacky,

I was invited to the numerical test just the day after i submitted the online application... hope it helps.

Angeline.

I just received an email from DB inviting me to take the numerical test. Is the numerical test from SHL ? If not, is it the same "difficulty" level ?

Anyway, I think I will take it on Sunday, today was a very long day, and tomorrow I'll go to London with other international students from my uni ... So I'll check your answer tonight or Sunday

Thanks ;)

itsunjacky

Yaz,

How long does it take for them to inform you that you need to take a numerical test after you submitted the application? Thank you

Haps

Yaz
the numerical test questions are not that difficult its just that there is a lot of them so its a speed test as well as a numerical test as you have to answer 20q's in 20 mins. They ask questions that are mainly based on statistics so you have to calculate percentage increases and analyses data from tables and pie charts etc. They give you a practice test to start off so dont worry. What is SHL by the way?? ive not heard of it.

yaz

Haps>

SHL is a company that creates numerical (and verbal) tests. Some banks use SHL tests, like BNP, HSBC, Barclays and probably others.
Ok, it seems to be the same as usual :)

By the way, I asked you about that because I took the Merrill Lynch test on Wednesday, during the night, and I failed. I found the questions harder than usual, I don't know why ... anyway, I will take the Deutsche Bank test on Sunday I think.

itsunjacky>

I applied yesterday at midday, and I received an email from DB today, roughly 24 hours after I submitted my application.

am2000

i submitted my application about a week ago and still haven't heard about numerical test...should I take this as a bad sign?

Chim

ive applied for an LRC internship with them, still waiting to here

DeltaExchange

@chim whats LRC??

altho the invitation to the numerical test is an automated response once the computer has proccessed your CV.

am2000

how long does it take on average to process cvs tho? lrc is legal, risk and capital

DeltaExchange

Oh right i see!! thnx am2000, erm I would say personally it took a week. altho it seems lot of ppl around here seem to be quicker but I guess it depends really.

Did the people that were successfull hear back v.soon after the numerical test?

Chim

@ bananas - legal risk and capital - its ICAS recognised for training accountants

Cheryl

I've just done my numerical test for DB, don't think I did particularly well. Was really rushed for time at the end. I found the practise test they gave me relatively easy though. How long does it take them to tell you usually whether you have passed or not? I'm quite nervous...

Btw, I applied to DB on Wednesday night and I got an invite to the numerical test on Thursday afternoon.

Hope that helps!

Chim

^ Thats great you got such a quick reply !

I applied for legal risk abt 10 days ago and I havent heard from them yet.

am2000

yeah i'm still waiting..it's just annoying, I wish if they were going to reject you they'd just do it and not make you hang around so much! cheryl what dept did you apply to?

Chim

I suppose its worth the wait if they accept you.

Chim

I just got an email telling me to take the numerical test.

mite do that tmmrw :)

lola2402

Just thought i'd mention that they actually have STARTED INTERVEIWING! I submitted my application two weeks ago, was asked to do the numerical test the day after my submission, and less than a week after that I have been invited for first round interviews. I have mine tomorrow afternoon. So if you haven't yet taken you numerical test, I think you should do it NOW!

DeltaExchange

@lola2402 good luck with the interview, what division have you applied for? I just submitted my numerical test today - I thought it was really hard so v.nervous!! Be sure to tell us how the interview goes!!

lola2402

^ Thank you!
I applied for Group Technology Operations. I found the numerical test quite hard as well and still got called for an interview, so I really don't think you should worry! Will definitely let everyone know how the interview goes... and possibly tips on how to do better than me ;)

Cheryl

hey I've applied to Group Technology Operations as well, still waiting to see if I've passed the numerical test or not...good luck with your interview lola, and share some tips :)

I found the numerical test in HSBC much easier than DB, but I've failed the verbal (which was meant to be easy)... any tips on how to improve performance on verbal reasoning test?

lola2402

To be honest, the only way I think you can improve your verbal reasoning tests score is to read faster! For me the main problem is just being able to use the "Cannot tell" answer instead of just "No" because it seems to me to be very counter-intuitive!

I've tried tackilng the verbal questions in different ways (e.g reading the questions before I read the passage, or not reading the passage at all and only scanning through the passage for the possible answer after reading the question), and I have found that I do best when I just read the entire passage, and then do the questions. I think that way actually saves you some time as well, because if you have read and understood the passage, then you wont have to go back to it when you read the question!

I'm afraid thats the only tip I can give, i'm not an expert at these things, and I think different people work differently, so what seems to work for me may not work for you :(

Kalo_ss

Got a Global Markets assesment center comming on the 11th...wish me luck.

The nummerical test is supposed to be really difficult and noone manages to finish it within the time limit, so even if you think you've done bad, you still might be high on their list.

DeltaExchange

@lola2402 how did your interview go today?! I am still waiting for my DB answer after the numerical test? What was the interview like? Was it all competency based, cos alot of guys were saying it was?

lola2402

My interview went ok. I've heard back for final round already (same day!). I prepared for competency based questions, but I mainly got asked questions regarding my CV, and about my opinion about the financial crisis. I was very lucky to have read about the different commodities that banks trade in, as I was asked to explain them - derivatives to be specific. I really doubt that we would get the same questions.

Key tips:
1) It is very likely that your interviewer just asks you questions related to your CV as opposed to the typical/traditional competency based questions like "tell me a time about a time that you worked in a group" (like mine did). In this case, obviously answer whatever they ask you about your CV, but try to make reference to a competency that is highlighted by the activity e.g instead of just explaining what you do for XYZ society in your uni, try and relate it to your competency.

2) Try not to mention any topic that you have not researched/dont know about. In my case, I was explaining the role of GTO, and because I researched into trade commodities, I felt comfortable mentioning it in my explanation (I think I was saying something about how GTO helps trades to be carried out efficiently), and so when the interviewer asked me about trade commodities, I wasn't stuck. Its probably a good idea to try and influence the conversation to favour whatever you're knowledgeable about... if your nerves dont get the better of you!

Hope this is helpful! Once again, I am no expert in these things, plus one of the HR ladies told me that both my interviewers were very nice (one of them actually used "not sexy" as an adjective to describe the financial crisis!), so maybe I was just lucky ;)

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!

DeltaExchange

@Kalo SS, well done and good luck tell us how the AC goes!!! At the AC stage are there group exercises???

Kalo_ss

Nope...just 3 interviews with different MDS/Directors and a numeracy test.

DeltaExchange

how was it?

kkhimji2001

Should I rush to send off my DB summer internship application for operations as I still have a month before the deadline. will my chances be better now?

Kalo_ss

kkhimji2001, yes you should. They review them on the roll and might fill all positions before the deadline.
@Bananas - it was allright - the test wasn't terribly difficult. Two interviews were pretty much straight-forward competency interviews; third one was a case study - the guy tried to place me in a hypothetical situation in sales so as to see how I'd react - no time to think, he asked a lot of different stuff trying to find a weak link.

DeltaExchange

@Kalo_ss - Thanks for the info, I am not really worried about the numerical test as I am doing lots of practice papers etc. Yeh the internship AC seems so straightforward, a test and 3 interviews!! So when did you hear back from DB, I must say out of all the banks they are remarkably quick at getting back to candidates (when ure successfull anyway)!!

miklas

I have just submitted my numerical test and it was harder than I expected (way harder than the easy practice questions). I only managed to finish 16 of 20 questions. Now I'll just wait for there respons.

How many questions did people here manage to finish?

Cheers!

DeltaExchange

@miklas, what division did you apply for? I managed to complete all the 20 questions, but I have a sneaky feeling they use negative marking and I say that because a few of my friends only answered 14 questions and passed - meaning that the pass mark is 70%, but then others would attempt all 20 and fail - but of course there is no way of telling.

But I do know people who just spend the 20 mins only concentrating on 14 questions, hoping they answer them all correctly thus achieving the 70% pass mark!! But good luck anyway!!

kkhimji2001

do u get invited to the numerical straight away or do they look at application first?

miklas

@Bananas, I applied for their summer internship in Londan, M&A.
If they use negative marking I'll be kind of upset actually.

Kalo_ss

@Bananas = they phoned the next day ;)

kkhimji2001

Ok I applied for my summer internship and got invited for a numerical the next day, what is the pass mark, and how many questions will there be in the 20 minute period? Is it SHL?

DeltaExchange

@kkhimji2001 - there are 20 questions, it wasn't really that hard altho the practice questions are really easy unlike the test which isn't as easy!! but you'll b fine most ppl seem to have passed
@miklas, dont worry you'll be fine, as i said before there is no way of telling if they do use negative marking, plus after my test I felt upset but learnt I passed and was happy!! dont worry!!

So are DB still doing first round interviews for internships still or is everything scheduled for after xmas?

kkhimji2001

Bananas I made two minor spelling errors on my application, and uploaded my old style CV (which I have updated to a neater, more attractive version)

Will I be judged on how I perform in the test only (if i pass, i go to next stage), or will it be then considered with my application I submitted?

zahidwaheed

how much time it takes DB to give u urnumerical test result?

kkhimji2001

hey whats the pass mark i answered all 20 i know i got one wrong i think i probably got about 16 right for sure..

ether

hey guys? do you know if DB have finalised their offers? I havent been invited to do the numerical so I think that perhaps I have been rejected at the first stage?? Is anyone else in the same position?

fe10jy

what position did you apply for?
