Hi everyone, I'm new to the forums so I apologize if this has been covered. I was searching through the forums but never found anything specific to this program. So the question is, anyone going for this position?

The recruitment process for this is company overview, team overview, group discussion/presentation, group interview (first screening) then second round interviews (second screening).

If anyone has any advices, specific interview questions they know for the second round please let me know!
Cheers,

alex1982

Hi, mushrooms. Ive applied for the same programme. passed telephone interview 2 months ago. HR manager called me last week, having said, that assessment day is coming up some day in October. she will notify about the specific date.
I reckon, questions they will ask: why bloomberg, why this position, why this department, some competency questions plus economic questions.
when is your is assessment day?

mushrooms

Hey Alex,

Good to hear from you. I had my phone interview and group discussion + group interview last week. Passed both, and will have my second interview (sounds like a final interview) soon. Well, they asked for my convenient time so I just basically asked for an interview a few weeks later. We'll see if they will be flexible with that.

Btw, where are you from? I'm applying through the Tokyo department.

alex1982

Congratulations. Well done.
it must have been interesting experience for you. I live in london, but originally from Russia. Can you elaborate on group discussion (what was the case). What do you mean by group inteview? is it face to face interview or i am missing something.
What questions youve been asked?
Did they tell you, that if they offer you a job, they will send off you to United States, Prinston for 4 weeks training programme. it sounds good to me )))

mushrooms

Cheers mate.
I don't know what the recruitment process over on your side is, however the screening stages here in Tokyo are:

1st- Documents screening (Resume, CV, transcripts, etc..)
2nd- Phone interview / Invitation of the third screening.
3rd- Company & Position overview (basically powerpoint and the managers, employees speaking) + group discussion + group interview.

There were 20~25 people at this stage, and each of us was split into groups of 3~4. They gave us 20 minutes to read the materials and present to the recruiters (basically it was a M&A deal) and we had to be "Analysts" and provide specific answers they asked. Stuff like what the specific deal was ($'s) and what do you think the financial market would be after the deal, etc..

After that, we were sent to group interviews (same people from the group) so 3~4 people. Asked us behavioral questions and competency. The usual questions you mentioned. This was around 30~40 minutes.. Can't really remember..

4th- Second interview (I think this is the last one if I remember from the powerpoint they showed us.)

So I'm guessing the recruiting process here in Tokyo is different from London..
And yes, they said the training is for 4 weeks in Princeton and I think that's fantastic.
I'm definitely nervous! So it all depends on the preparation and confidence!

Cheers,

alex1982

Thank you for the insight into the process that you have already gone through . It will help.
I reckon, here in London it is the same recruitment process as in Tokyo (the same programme). do you have any idea of the salary? if they take you on, when will you start?
ive got some questions-answers prepared. if you want i can email it to you. might help.totally up to you.

mushrooms

No worries mate, I'm here to help and also make exchanges!
I have no idea of the salary, but it doesn't really matter because this really is my first choice with my job hunting right now. I can't imagine it to be bad anyway.
If I remember correctly, they said they would announce the results during late October.. and that's really late/weird considering the fact that the final interview is within the next few weeks. I heard first day of work is the first week of January 2011.

Anyway, I love to have your files. I'll PM you.
Cheers,

starrynight

Hi alex,
I`ll be in the UK late this month and wanna apply to Bloomberg`s London office but it seems that the 2011 positions have opened. Do you know whether there is a deadline for 2011 application? Am I too late to apply in October?

alex1982

Starrynight

they are recruiting people for January 2011 and summer 2011 (June or July). so you might be late for January, as they have already selected people, but June 2011 is a good prospect for you. If you apply now for this programme (you never know) they might pick you up for Janurary 2011.

I am also new to this forum, so I apologize if maybe this topic was already covered. About 2 weeks ago I applied for the Japanese Language Event (for Sales and Analytics roles) on September 17 in London. After a couple of days, I received a mail including links to downloadable information about Bloomberg. Since then, however, I haven't received any feedback whatsoever. Does anyone have a similar experience - and if so, would it make sense to contact them and ask for feedback? Considering it's a role in Sales, I feel that they'd expect you to be proactive, but still... Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

mushrooms

From what I know is:
You upload your resume + references online then apply online.
Next stage is they will contact you via email or phone for the next screening.

rkerner

So I guess I'd better wait. Thanks for the fast reply. I really appreciate it.

eti

hey guys,
do you know how long it takes for BB to get back to you after submitting the online application?
I applied to Data analyst position a week ago and still haven't heard anything from them :-(.

thanks in advance.

rkerner

Hi eti,

I've had a similar experience. I guess there are so many applicants that it takes some quite a while to sort through all the submissions. I applied for an event, got a short message by a lady from Bloomberg and then no feedback at all. After about 2 weeks, I sent a follow-up message and received an invitation straight away.
Best of luck with your application and let me know how it turns out.

eti

thi rkerner,
hanks for the quick reply :-)
I'll wait a week more and probably send an e-mail to the HR lady, if that's a good idea.

lucky_10

last week i attented the event women in finance and after that i applied via bloomberg's site for the position of Analytics and Financial Sales Programme does anyone knows after the phone interview what is include the second interview? or if they have any test? what is include the language test?
thanks!

rkerner

To: eti

No problem. Hope that things turn out well for you.

rkerner

Hi eti,

did you get any feedback from Bloomberg in the meantime? I was just wondering coz I applied for a position after participating in an event at their London HQ and haven't gotten any feedback after about 2 weeks.

eti

Hey rkerner,
And no.. I haven't received any feedback yet. At the end I decided to call HR and she said it was still under review..Very slow indeed, it's the third week now since I submitted the app.
For a peace of mind, maybe you give them a call too.

wy0144

Hi all,

I applied for the same position last week and got a call from them this week. They called you and directly gave you a phone interview. Next week I will go to the group exercise, which they claimed it's the last one.

So I guess they are still looking for people at the moment.

p.s. I applied for the January entry as well.

arlun

hey wyo144,

I have just applied too, and i just wanna know what were the questions in the direct phone interview? what happens if i'm not free to take a call at that moment or so? it makes me nervous now if there is a phone call from a random number? basic questions on your competency? why BB why this programme? why should I hire you?

a little help here please!!!

thanks and good luck to your grp ex. too !!! :)

wy0144

I missed their call as well... then i called back and knew it's a general bloomberg no.

then the HR guy sent me an email and asked me to call back (at his direct no.). and at that time i got all my documents prepared already...

I don't think this conversation matters. My friend didn't do too well in it but they still invited her to the next round. So I guess they just wanna see if you can speak fluently.

He just asked what I know from that position. And ask me to speak in Mandarin as well.. to tell them what other extra curricular activities I have joined.

Hope it helps!

ytn2006

Congrats on your success, mate

Any tips for us who are going to have the group ex.?

bloodline

I applied for the bloomberg new energy finance role, can anybody tell on average how long it takes to hear back from them after initial applications?
Besides this, does anyone know of an email address contact for the HR that i can follow up my application through?

arlun

just to clarify that i have applied to Sales rather than global data. Just did my phone interview.

not even a question on recent finance news.. arghhh ( I was just about to talk about how North Korea bombed South and is a breaking news of the dayafter I read bbc lol)

I wasnt well prepared due to the school work that I am going through and other stuffs but then I have prepared the whole morning since 4am ( interview at 11am btw) A bit too last minute so i don't really recommend doing that.

FEEL CONFIDENT is the key I think. if the voice feels sick or too soft, they won't be interested in talking with you. This i think applies to any phone interview of any industry. just let them feel the energy especially if ur phone interview is early in the morning ( or late evening before off work) And, be honest... you will sound fake and inconsistent if u try to deliever a feeling across ( both phone andface interview) that doesn't belong to you. unless you came from drama then maybe you can exploit your advantage.

Questions:
what bb does
why bb
what do u understand about the role.
why you
your qualities.
is there any questons you want to ask

It hasn't been a interview in a strict frame work. its does seems to be more of a natural flow...however they seem to be not too interested about you ( their tone) and just goes on with asking you questions but isnt too enthusiastic about your phone in ( may i screwed it i dunno) But i spoken most of the time on the phone after she throws me a question.

I reckon the phone interviewer didn't even have time to read your cv, so say that explicity if it relates to you question. i said i did xyn and earned $abc ... she said ohhh!? why didn't u continue with you job? I then said it was an society event ...not a job...lol

hopefull I'll pass this and I do wanna know what happens in the 2nd interview ( if i have one :S ) i wanted to know whether you will be asked the same questions ( as above)? do i just say everything that i have said on the phone?

I hope to have some light on that ( well, once i got accepted to the 2nd round, hopefully) and although a newbie, I love the platform of wikijob or similiar, that allows us to help each other. its encouraging and fosters a very healthy cycle!

Hope to get some light on the 2nd interview! thanks and I will def update if i have the chance!

took me 4 days to reply. u can call the website-general phone to check with HR i suppose.

Hi, everyone.
Just received invitation for Bloomberg Summer Internship in Global Data 2011 and decided to share useful information.
There've been 3 stages this time - application, phone interview and interview with representative from the Department. First two are rather similar to everything that had been posted earlier. The last is more interesting.
We've been invited to the Bloomberg London office for 3 hours. Our visit was divided by 4 parts: company presentation, overview of the Bloomberg terminal, finance test and interview. The test (40 questions for 25 min) was quiet hard. Maybe just for me, cause I have small knowledge in Finance:( However, it contained variety of subjects and questions from different areas: e.g. general finance, accounting, economics, some numerical tasks and general knowledge about Bloomberg. Many questions were tricky. At the beginning of the test we've been told that they want to check our general understanding and knowledge. I did only 2/3 of it.
The interview went smoothly. List of questions were quiet standard: why Bloomberg, describe yourself, define your strength and weakness, what's your ambitious about Bloomberg.
To my mind, a lot depended on the interviewer. I was lucky enough to have ladies, who were interested in my cv and supported me in my answers. Some guys, who didn't get through had boring interviews with questions just from the list.

If anyone will have any queries, I would be happy to give my help.

gulobu

Hi, has anyone taken the finance test that uky45 mentioned? If so, can you give me some tips? I have no idea of what it is about....:(

JayAlPacino

Does anyone know an email address for Bloomberg HR? I just need to follow up my application. It will be really appreciated if some can can either post it here or email it to me on jabedahmed@yahoo.com. I applied for law data analyst at Bloomberg.

uky45

To track your application try to call them. I think the number should be on the web-site. They will put you through to a particular HR who is responsible for your program. Cause there is no general HR department email, they all are personal. So it will be much faster to call and ask, so you would spend no more than 10 minutes, and not waiting for 2-3 days while they redirecting your email to a right employee.

JayAlPacino

Thanks buddy for the reply but i am not really comfortable with phones. I rather email. cheers for the reply anyway.

shimmi_shammi

Hi All,

Obviously its been a few months since the last post. I have read through the above info, and its very helpful.

I have had my telephone interview (yesterday) and have been invited to the first assessment day in a week's time. The email I received said the day will consist of the following:

 -Tour around the building
 -General financial test
 -Bloomberg Terminal Demo
-An interview with 2 Team Leaders from Global Data (standard sort of interview)

What I'm slightly worries about is the general financial test. I asked about that on the phone after the interview, and I was told it would include questions about bond and equity markets, I don't have a clue about them!!

If someone could give some insight into the either the interview of the financial test, it would be INCREDIBLY appreciated!!

Thanks one and all

Hope whoever was successful with Bloomberg has enjoyed it since

Cheers

Hi Shimmi

I've recently sent my application for a post in Sales&Analytics dept.

Just wanted to know after how long do they usually get back to you after you've sent your application?

Cheers

Vicky

shimmi_shammi

Hi Vicky11

Took them about 3 weeks, to arrange a telephone interview, but then at the end of the telephone interview they said can you come to an assessment centre the following week,, and at the assessment centre (yesterday) they asked me to reinterview again on Monday.

Hope that helps

aderibis_06

Hi Shimmi

I had my telephone interview on the 26 of OCT for the Global Data Analyst training. the lady I had my interview with said they will get back to me in a week time, bt I have not heard anytin. should I keep hoping or just forget about cos is over a week now.

Cheers

shimmi_shammi

Stuff that mate, get on the phone, ring them up and say I'm keen to progress with my application, can you tell me the outcome of my interview on the 28th (what ever date) of October?

Get on the blower, send them an email, what is it going to cost you? 5-10 minutes of your time is definitely worth the opportunity to interview. their office is REALLY COOL!

You have to remember that the employer also has to impress the prospective employees, ie, they have to make you want to work there.

What I would say for the next round is know the company inside out! Who is the CEO/Chairman (Wikipedia, thank you), what other sources of revenue they have (Business Week and New Energy Finance), share price, and what it has done recently.

If you get through, dont worry about the financial test, just know common knowledge stuff like who is the head of the ECB or the BoE, what is the difference between the LSE and the FTSE, real basic stuff

Best of luck, and get on their case

aderibis_06

Thanks mate for the information. The good news is that I called and I was informed a decisions has not been made by interviewer, which means there is still a chance that i will be called. I just don't want to hear the bad news.

I have been to the office for BAT test organised by BLOOMBERG, so I know how cool the office is. VERY COOL, ATMOSPHERE SUPERB.

Hi guys!

I've been invited for Bloomberg Assessment Day for 2012 June Global Data training programme, on 7th Febrary 2012. It's written in the email that there will be a group presentation, BAT and an interview. Anyone else is going there? Does anyone know what to expect during a group interview? Any help would be appreciated!!)

DavidTot

Hey val2345,

congrats.
i've also been invited for Bloomberg Assessment Day for the same programme on the same date....i'm gonna travel from Leeds, gonna be a long day.

i'm also very curious what the group presentation (my email mentions a group presentation, but probs that's the same as a group interview) and the BAT are gonna be like. And I hope there won't be any tricky questions in the interview. Cos, I had some in my telephone interview, ....how about you?

anyway, let's hope somebody can enlighten us with some more details.
