Anyone received invitation from Morgan Stanley for some aptitude tests and meetings with recent graduate in their London office?

It's bizzare that I can't do tests online. and I don't know whether I can go or not as I am not in the UK at the moment.

IBD_Haunter

briandp

Strat

Yeh I am going too!

smygba

A.B

@Strat and Smygba and others (!):
I'm going for the aptitude tests (I applied for Operations) at MS on friday (8th of jan).
Can someone please tell me what the 3 announced aptitude tests are ? I know the first 2 are numerical and verbal tests but what is the 3rd one ?
Btw, Happy New Year ! x

@ A.B

Did you apply for the Feb intake in London and is your status in career website "No Status Available"? Good Luck for tests.

nacnud9

@A.B: I have the aptitude tests as well on Friday. I am the same as you and I don't know what the third test is? If you find out please let me know as I would really appreciate it. Good luck on Friday anyway! :)

A.B

@akoo: thanks. I applied for the summer internship. (not too sure what the february intake is, is it graduate programme ?).
and I just checked and it does say "No status available" !

I have the same aptitude tests for ops tommorow. I think the third test is to check accuracy... just what I made of the email they sent anyway. I'm going to go check out SHL later tonight and see what I can find, that's what MS recommend doing anyway.

I take it we don't have interviews tommorow, right? Seems a lot of travelling just to do tests, but then the email certainly does not mention interviews at all.

jchs

what do you think the aptitude tests will be like? i heard they maybe negatively marked. Do you think they will be any harder than other tests?

SuccessHunter

So wasn't too bad in the end I don't think.

For future reference for people looking it's just a basic test to begin with where you have to match a number / letter combination to the exact same one out of 5 options, getting progressively harder with longer number / letter strings. Followed by standard SHL verbal and numerical tests.

jonleg

Can i ask what you wore to the test day? As far as I know it's just tests and some presentation/tour so I thought smart casual would be ok since I have uni straight after as well. What were most people wearing?

SuccessHunter

I got an email to say I passed the tests on friday, now a phone interview before final assessment centre today. Anyone else hear back?

Wear a suit with no tie.

akoo

@ successhunter

did you apply for Ops Full Time ?

andreamis

@Successhunter

I received the same email. I applied for ops summer, you?

A.B

Same for me. Will have my phone interview on wednesday and I'm freaking out cause it's my first interview ever ever !!!
It would be great if you could tell me what kind of questions they ask (any technical one?)
Just to get a feel of how it's gonna be like .. thanks

andreamis

Try the interview qs available on the forum. The program was cancelled last year so hvnt heard about any prior experience ...

SuccessHunter

I applied for operations summer placement. Had the phone interview today and passed so assessment centre on saturday.

How did yours all go?

IBD_Haunter

did the interviewer tell you that you passed straightaway???? or did he/she email you later on to let you know?

SuccessHunter

The interviewer told me straight away once I had finished answering questions.

Then I got a call this morning to confirm time and date, and then was sent an email with full A/C information.

mkjio

@SuccessHunter,

Did you get any indication that there would be any more events/AC for Ops. Summer Internship?? Or is there only 1?

I applied for the same position....no contact from them so far....fearing the worst :(

A.B

Had my phone interview on wednesday, told me straight away that I was successful and I'm going for the AC on saturday.
@mcikenncj: HR mentionned another AC later this month (on the 28th i think) .. fingers crossed !

mkjio

Thanks A.B! Out of interest...what does your status say? Is it 'no status available'?

SuccessHunter

did you have no contact since doing the tests on friday or since making an application??

A.B

@mcikenncj: still says "No status available"

mkjio

None. My status did change to 'congratulations, you have been selected for interview'...back in November, before then changing to'no status available'. Have heard nothing since then...

SuccessHunter

You haven't heard since November??

I would contact them then and find out...

I have this aptitude test coming up soon, however this is for a placement in the Finance division. From the E-mail the format is the same SHL Numerical/Verbal followed by an accuracy test. Three questions;

1. What did you guys wear? Suit and no tie as suggested by somebody above?
2. What is the accuracy test like, and are there any practice ones around?
3. The day finishes with a Q&A from a recent grad. Is this assessed or just an informal chat?

Anyone? :x

SuccessHunter

1. Wear a suit and no tie, it's fine. I went to my final round AC like this too.
2. Accuracy test is very simple and you can't really practice for it, don't worry about it.
3. It is unassessed and informal, ours was cancelled due to the snow however, but I know roughly what it involves and yeah just go find out a bit about Morgan Stanley and the department.

The aptitude tests are simple, just do them like you would any normal online test and you'll get through to the AC.

just got a missed call, and I called back the number its from MS! but the lady said she wont know who called me... I applied to Institutional equity summer internship in HK ages ago, and i thought i was rejected ( cos my status changed to you have been rejected) but now when I log back on it says No status available... damn i wish i have picked up >_<

Damarus

Do you have to speak cantonese/manderin to work in at MS HK?

hrstal

Hi all,

Thanks for the useful info.

What were the questions at the phone interview (the one after the aptitude tests and before the AC) like.....any technical ?

SuccessHunter

Quite a typical phone interview, just normal competency Q's, none that are different to anywhere else.

Technical? not hugely... just make sure you have a good idea of what it is operations actually does.

bebecent

I was called yesterday and was told that they wanted to ask me some few questions about my application..... I was so curious because i have applied abt 3 months ago and this is the 1st time hearing from MT. I actually thought that she was going to ask about my application for example questions like we just noticed that you have failed to include a cover letter or something was missing that kinda of question..Little did i know that it was a telephone interview.... The lady took me by surprise and started asking me some competency based question.. about financial crisis, why operations and why Glasgow... I wasn't too happy with my answers as i tot i was not well prepared...After about 6 hours she called me that i was successful and that i should attend a test center at their Glasgow office this Saturday. I am pretty much scared as i don't know what to expect... Is ani1 in the same shoes as me or has experience similar situation??? Please i need your ideas i will appreciate it so much.. As i am so scared that they might surprise me again by informing me that i will be having interviews along with the test...so i wana be well prepared...Also considering the distance from where i live to Glasgow its something i need to scale tru!!! I applied for a full time analyst role operation Glasgow

hrstal

Thank You SuccessHunter! I really appreciate your help.....

How was the AC afterwards....what kind of questions do they ask at the interviews....is it technical.....

how much they are teasing you about the motivation and division you are applying to?

Advice to prepare? any questions you found particularly mean/difficult

Thank you in advance.
