Did anyone have telephone interview with RBS Insurance? What questions will be asked? Any questions apart from motivation and competency? Thanks for sharing~~~

Cleary1987

Hi Mayday, I have one this week aswel, for the project management team...have been looking on the forums and cant seem to see anything related to the PM side of things!!!

When is your interview?

pringle_party

I have one coming up next week. If I remember the slots are of 30 mins. So, I am expecting three obvious questions

Why RBS?

What do you know about the role?

Why the role?

Competency

Teamwork related questions (Almost certain)

Leadership (highly probable)

Planning , deadline and all that (Could be asked)

If any one had already been interviewed, please help all us.

Clearly1987 and mayday, could please let me know how your interview was.

thanks a lot.

Cleary1987

Hi pringle_party thanks for your advice!!

What and where is your telephone interview for?? Mine is PM in Glasgow...really nervous about it, I know the recruitment is meant to be tough with RBS....

Mine is on Thursday, when is yours?

SteliosFarquharson

Hi.. I'm applying for stratergy in Leeds! How long were you guys waiting for an invite to the telephone interview after completing the online tests? Have any of you gone through the process yet and can give a bit of advice? Any unexpected questions? Thanks!

Cleary1987

about a week in between each test/interview!

gorobi

Hi guys. Could someone please tell me how many online tests have you done for Project Management as well as if they were difficult. Thank you.

Cleary1987

I did two online tests for PM; The first was numerical and the second was inductive reasoning (which comes next in this sequence type of thing).... The numerical one was harder than the inductive reasoning, but neither of them were very difficult! Good luck

gorobi

Hi Cleary Thank you very much for the swift reply. It is much appreciated. I am about to do my tests and shall let you know about the result.

pringle_party

My interview is next thursday. If any one had already been through this stage, please can you let us all know how it went.

Thanks a lot.

Muza

pringle_party

Sure Muza, I will, but it would only be after next thursday.

SteliosFarquharson

SteliosFarquharson

henny

Hi Stelios,

I have my interview tomorrow is it possible for you to give me advice on what they asked.

Thanks in advance

Maks

Hey People,

I completed my tests on Tuesday, 19th April, and got this message today at 6.11 pm :

" Thank you once again for applying to the Royal Bank of Scotland Insurance Internship Programme.

We will be in touch next week with more information about your application.

Have a lovely break.

Kind regards,

Recruitment Team"

I didn't get it, does this message mean I passed the tests or what? How it was your in case? Please, look forward to your replies guys, Thanks

shush97

Hi.

I had my interview this thursday, and I haven't yet received that email! It may be to do with the fact that its a bank holiday weekend. To the question above, I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet, that email could mean anything.

To those who asked what kind of questions the telephone interview will have, its basically standard and has motivational questiopns and competency questions. If you are clued up on rbs insurance n what they do etc, as well as knowing much about ur role, then you should be fine.

SteliosFarquharson

What did they tell you after the interview? I was told they would be back in touch in 2 weeks as hwvent booked assessment centers yet..

Maks

Hi guys,

I was invited for telephone interview, which is on 3 May.

Could you please give some more details on how was the interview? What questions were asked?

I do see the post of shush97, but if you guys could tell a bit more, it would be really helpful! Thanks a lot, would appreciate it.

shush97

hi.

after the interview they told me the same thing - they would get in touch with me in 2 weeks, and that the assessment centre would be taking place in July. Hopefully they will get in touch with me next week!

For the interview, the questions were structured, first lot of questions were motivational so to do with how much u know about RBS and the role, so my advice would be to research alot on what rbs insurance do, their future plans, and the actual role you applied for.

next set of questions were competency based, asking u to give detailed examples of what you did etc... e.g. where u demonstrated leadership, influence, and how did you achieve a goal etc.

keep it structured, use the STAR approach, and you should be fine!

zipzoo

Hey

I had my interview last week the questions I was asked was

(General questions) Why RBS insurance? What you know about them Why did you chose this role? What you will find difficult in the role and how will you overcome them?

Then about 4 competency question in the lines of: A time when you improved something A time when you had to gather information to solve a problem A time when you created a new idea A time when you had to solve a problem quickly

Maks

Shush97 and Zipzoo,

Thanks a lot guys, much appreciate it. Are you also applying for Internship Programme in London-Bromley??

Cleary1987

I received this email today:

Thank you for completing a telephone interview. We are pleased to inform you that you have met the minimum requirements of your interview and are now under consideration for the next stage of the application process. If successful, you may be invited to an assessment centre. We will inform you as soon as possible of the outcome of your application.

Yours sincerely

RBS Insurance Resourcing Team

its weird, as it says that I have passed the interview...but that I am under consideration...anyone have any ideas...??

Greatgoon

@ Cleary1987, i got the same reply, i have looked at other RBS division wiki jobs and it sounds like it's their way of saying you are nearly through but it depends on how many more aplicants pass the phone interview and where you rank within them.

It's interesting reading the other RBS job wikis as in some cases they have added extra stages and some positions have been delayed by several months which doesn't sound great.

I know it's only opinion but i think it's still a positive sign that we have had this e-mail, does anyone know if there are maths tests at the assesment day?

Maks

@ Greatgoon, I guess you will need to sit the numerical and inductive reasoning tests once more at the AC, that what all firms usually do. So, the advise would be practicing.

Greatgoon

I heard something about an Alpha maths test i hadn't heard about doing the tests again, let me know if you get further conformation and i'll do the same

Maks

I haven't heard either, but I am pretty sure that whatever test that Alpha was there will not be any specific Maths topics as Trigonometry, or Inequalities or whatsoever. Industry is absolutely not interested in those Maths skills.

The only different Maths Test I would expect is something like Bloomberg's Maths Test, which was anyway a combination of basic Maths (GSCE) and numerical tests. However, there maybe some tricky numerical questions as a rule.

Most firms run Numerical or other tests at ACs in order to verify the results you have previously demonstrated.

Btw, google does not show anything reasonable for Alpha Maths Test

Greatgoon

http://www.wikijob.co.uk/wiki/rust-alpha

This may be it, sounds just the same as the on-line tests

Maks

From the content I understood that it's for managerial positions and of higher level than normal numerical and other tests. As for interns, I personally don't think they will ran this test, even major Investment Banks don't do this test, so I guess there is no reason to worry. If you could find when and where you heard about it, and get the trace from what you remember?

Maks

Hi guys,

Has anybody got invited to the Assessment Centre?

SteliosFarquharson

My application says on hold after telephone interview..

shush97

i got the email the other day saying i passed the telephone interview. but not as yet been invited to the assessment centre! hoping to maybe hear back from them soon! i dont think we would get a reply until next month since the assessment centre would be in July.

Maks

Hey hey

Haha, seems you guys applied for graduate scheme... But mine is Internship, so the latest day that the 8 week summer placement would start is early July, so in my case it's kind of weird, because summer placement should not exceed to September, so then the start must be the 4th July. I am questioned.

SteliosFarquharson

Ahh.. that doesnt sound too good for me then!! When did you get an email saying they will be be assessing the telephone interview and what position are you applying for?

nchen5

hi Maks, I m applying for the summer internship programme as well. I have my telephone interview tomorrow. Do you mind sharing what questions they asked in the interview? Thanks very much. In the email they sent to me they said this week is the last week for telephone interview, so I guess the AC will be something like the next week.Hope to see you there.

Maks

Hey guys,

@nchen5, I have my phone interview tomorrow as well, it's at 12.30. What time is yours? I really hope to see you at AC in Bromley as well. But I would prefer to have AC after the 26th, when I finish my exams :)

As they(RBS Ins.) stated in their email there will be no phone interview after 15 May, so I think after that they will recruit interns as the time is approaching and then graduates, so there is no rush for graduates as they start in September anyway.

Maks

And yeah, Stelios

I received my invitation for the phone interview in like 21st or 22nd of April, I confirmed the date as 3/09, but then it coincided with my revision lecture, so I changed it to tomorrow. I applied for Analyst Internship Program, London/Bromley.

nchen5

Mine is at 10:00. I will probably be able to let you know what they asked me before your interview then. Well, I have been really busy recently and haven't had time to prepare for it. Just hope they won't ask anything too abnormal. Good luck Maks!

SteliosFarquharson

Ok, I have applied for the strategy position in Leeds so it may be different with the internship program. Ill probably hear back from them soon regarding the decision! Good luck at the assessment center!!

Maks

Okay, I see, well, if we(mainly I) luckily get through to the AC we will definitely post everything here about it.

Thanks for wishes, same to you, Stelios!

@nchen5, I will wait for your words :) All the best of luck, I think they won't ask tricky questions tmrw. Just do it!!

nchen5

Hi Maks,

quoting Zipzoo: "I had my interview last week the questions I was asked was

(General questions) Why RBS insurance? What you know about them Why did you chose this role? What you will find difficult in the role and how will you overcome them?

Then about 4 competency question in the lines of: A time when you improved something A time when you had to gather information to solve a problem A time when you created a new idea A time when you had to solve a problem quickly "

These were the questions I was asked. I did very badly. Good luck with you

nchen5

done

Maks

Hey nchen5,

Don't worry too much, we don't know how others performed and how many applicants are there for the Internship position as there are always more candidates for graduate schemes. I still hope to meet you at the AC and shake hands with you, and who knows maybe we will shake hands twice and more ;)

Thanks a lot for the info, and good luck!

Maks

Ohh, I am also done now

I don't think I did well, I am not a native speaker, don't think my vocabulary was impressive :(

I asked about the next stage, they said the ACs will be in late May and in June.

Anyway, lets hope and see

nchen5

My problem was exactly the same as yours! I am not a native speaker as well and when I was asked to give lots of examples, even though I can think of them, I felt the lack of ability to describle the exact scenario. Well I am hoping to hear from them rather soon so that I can make alternative plans for my summer. Best wishes

shush97

hi there.

@nchen5 and maks - i can relate to you both as I too had the same problem earlier on this year - which probably cost me my potential position for a grad scheme at siemens!

ever since that final interview i feel that I have vastly improved my ability to describe situations etc and its made me more determined to start again.

As I have got feedback from Siemens as to where I went wrong, my advice to you is to note down your experiences, examples and scenarios in written form, and structure them using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). ever since i got feedback from siemens, I started thinking deeply to what scenarios i have faced in my developing life (so examples of leadership, influences, solving problems etc) and written them all down. I then edited and structured these examples so that they flowed nicely, whilst having a thesaurus at hand to make each line clear, and to the point. I rehearsed to a friend each example for potential questions and made sure the situation i described were not too waffely (my main criticism that cost me the job), and once i was happy, i just carried on reading these examples until i remembered them.

i totally understand where you are coming from, even though i am a native speaker. i think trying to communicate the amazing working experience we may have had across to another person that has no idea about what you have done is a very difficult hurdle to go across - especially if it is a very complex situation.

however, with a lot of preparation and rehearsing, it will eventually be easy to explain.

i wish you all the best of luck, and i hope to see you in the assessment centre if I get invited!

shush97

@SteliosFarquharson

if your message was aimed at me, im sorry for not replying. I got the email from RBS saying i passed the telephone interview on 5th May, and I have applied for the graduate project management role at London/Bromily

Cheers

Maks

@ shush97,

Thanks a lot, really useful information, I will do that, but for the next year, this year I applied to quite few internships, so this one's gonna be the last.

Anyway, I do hope to see you at AC, good luck to you too!

nchen5

Thank you very much shush97. Your advices are much appreciated. Hopefully I will have the motivation to prepare for this kind of questions.

Greatgoon

Did anyone else going for graduate project manager get this?;

Thank you, once again, for completing a telephone interview. As you are already aware, you have passed your telephone interview and your application is still under consideration for the next stage of the application process. If successful, you may be invited to an assessment centre. We are still finalising assessment centre dates, although they are likely to be held between mid to end of June. We will inform you as soon as possible of the outcome of your application.

Sinbad

Just got my interview sorted for tomorrow at 9am! Hopefully not a technical interview because I am an engineer, and in the middle of exams, and I REALLY don't have the time to start learning a whole new subject before tomorrow!

Also, this is a ridiculous question, but I have applied for so many positions with RBS and other companies. Insurance Summer Analyst- London/Bromley. What exactly does this involve? I can't find the original job description.

Anybody know what the pay is like? I would have to relocate from Ireland and London is so expensive, so this is worrying!

Good luck for anyone with theirs to come, and fingers crossed for those who have already had their phone interview!
