lloyd's of London telephone interview.

I have a telephone interview with lloyd's of London - i.e the insurance market not the bank -coming up soon. I was wondering if anyone had done one of these and had any tips for me e.g the questions or the format?

In fact, I'm surprised there are no threads about Lloyd's at all. Anyone out there applying for Lloyds?

Looking forward to any replies.

Just got the rejection email about my application 2 days ago. Good luck

phybabe

I have a numerical test coming up with them.

stevie

hey torres09, have u had the telephone interview with them yet? i have mines coming up and i would appreciate some advice as to what it entails. i would be happy to post my experience on here as soon as ive had mine if its before yours. Thanks

torres09

Hi Stevie,

Did the telephone interview a couple of days ago. They give you 45 minutes for it but mine was finished in 20-25 including my questions. The guy introduced himself and set out the structure fot he interview telling me the competencies he was going to ask about. I was asked questions and follow-up questions about 3 of their competencies. There were no other questions on any other topic eg motivation or anything like that. My friend also had that interview and got asked about 3 different competences so it seems to be done at random. My advice is just prepare examples about the competencies from your experience and don't worry about anything else. Also finally have some good questions to ask at the end. The guy I spoke to spent lots of time answering my questions and it actually seemed he was evaluating my questions to him as much as my competency answers. Very friendly guy.

Hope that helps and if you have any other questions please ask. I will find out whether I got through next week. I think I did quite well. Good luck with your interview.

I have an AC with Lloyds next week. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of the Lloyd's insurance AC and could help me out?
If anyone has any questions about the process so far then I would be happy to answer.

irina_v860

Hey...anyone had an interview recently with Lloyds of London? How are the questions structured? Any tips are much appreciated!

Thanks.

VaneelaLFAJ

Hi fortress10, how did your AC with Lloyd's go?

Would you mind giving some info on the telephone interview? How was it structured? You also had only three competency questions? Any tips? I'll be having mine tomorrow and I'm a bit stressed at the moment. Not too much info on wiki :(
Thanks.

fortress10

Hi VaneelaLFAJ

I got through the AC and although the job was really good and I would recommend it to anyone, in the end, I accepted an offer with someone else.

My telephone interview was exactly the same as above as described by torres09. (I am the friend he mentions in his post). They want just normal competency answers from their list with a STAR kind of structure (i.e subject- task- action - result) as described on this site. For me also building a rapport with the woman I spoke to (head of HR I believe) was really important too. They want really friendly, people-oriented graduates so try and let your personality shine through even on the phone. Good luck.

If you get through I will write up my AC experience for you and anyone else if they are interested.

VaneelaLFAJ

Hey, thanks...congratulations for your offers. The offer you accepted is within the insurance industry as well?

Were there any other questions such as "why Lloyd's?" or any commercial awareness question, such as :"what challenges is the insurance industry currenly facing?". I'm trying to save some time and rather focus on competencies if that's the only thing they ask about.

And also, do you happen to know how many graduates are they looking to take on this year?

Thanks for your reply.

fortress10

Hey, there were no other questions at all. Just competency ones for me and the people I know who did the interview.

I think they are taking on about 10-12 people at the maximum. 2-3 from every assessment centre seems to be the pattern.

btw, yes I chose Swiss:re.

yovoda

Hi tortress1U,

did you apply for swissre graduate intake 2010? I thought that is still on process??
Or, is it a entry position?

BTW, congratulations! =) It is a good company.. really.

fortress10

Yovoda,

I am UK-based but I used to live in Japan and Hong Kong so I applied for the swissre graduate intake 2010 in Asia-pacific. I have exams so they let me do the assessment day in London. The UK process is still ongoing until March I believe.

Just wondering what people who got through to the phone interview wrote for the question on why llyods would be for you etc.
... and also, were the numerical tests shl ones? and did you have to do them straight after you completed the written application part?

Thanks!

jtownsley

i just got a tele invite, but the site says no slots available...

my test was straight after i submitted

...booked for tuesday, anyone having theirs this week? i saw theyve been available since monday

benzesty

Hey, i got mine booked for friday, 9th April 2010.
good luck. let me know if you pass to AC

jtownsley

best of luck with yours

jtownsley

does anyone know what kind of expenses they pay international applicants for the AC?
Thanks

rr233

Out of interest, how many days did it take after your tele interview to get an invite for an AC?

rr233

Anyone heard back/got an offer after the Assessment Centre?

jtownsley

had Internship AC on friday (30th), heard back yesterday. I think HR said there are 2 others with offers...anyone?

rr233

Offer here too, I think I'm accepting it.

Hi fortress10,

hope you're enjoying working in swissre.
I got a Lloyd's ac in jan. was wondering if you could help me out and tell me abit more about the process and what do you think is the ideal way to prepare for it?

Many thanks.

shirleyli

Can anyone share some experience of AC at LLoyds? Thanks

vonrichthofen

hi Shirleyli, did you get past the telephone interview then? Fortress was very helpful last year with the questions asked but I wanted to see if anyone could give me more specific ones so I can do some major prep. Got my phone interview next week.

shirleyli

Hi vonrichthofen

Yes i passed the telephone interview before xmas, it was only four competency questions and nothing else, I didnt even got the chance to ask my own question.

Sorry I cant remember the interview questions right now, but I believe they were drawn randomly from some data base, pretty standard ones I remember, no tricky stuff.

Hope my experience can help you and we may even meet on the AC day, good luck!

vonrichthofen

Thanks shirleyli. I will do some more research on the competency questions. Its what most other people have said they were asked too.

HI All

I had my Telephone interview today for Graduate Leadership Programe in HR. Here's the list of questions I was asked:

Why Lloyds?

Why HR?

What specifically like about the program? - this is to test if you know about what the program is going to be about.

Customer facing role is included in the scheme - how did that influence your decision to apply?

-Relocation required for the scheme- how did that influence your decision to apply?

-What skills could you contribute to the particular scheme you've applied for?

- Tell me about a time when you've come up with ways to do things differently?

- Tell me about a time when you've organised something with a team?

- How you worked in a team and what you did specifically?

- Have you had to deal with difficult relation with your collegaue at work? What was the situation and why was manitining efffective relation important.

Overall, I felt that the interviewer was very curt and to the point. There was no rapport building on theor part but that is just my opinion. I though i did well and let's see what happens next.

All the best for your telephone interview. Prepare well and be clear and consise. Give specific examples and include lots of 'I's - I did this, I handles it like that etc.

Plus - Has anyone been through the assessment centre yet? Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Buddy

Hey all,
I went through the Lloyd's application process last year so I can tell what the format was like then. The telephone interview was compentency questions only but I was able to ask some questions at the end. They told me it would be around a week before I heard but I actually heard back that same day. At the AC they had us do a group exercise, presentation, face-to-face interview, role play exercise, written reasoning tests (confirming the online ones), and a written exercise. We got to meet with graduates on the programme and were given a tour. I didn't get an offer but it was good experience. It wasn't too nerveracking as everybody was really nice. Good luck!!

buddy

Thanks for the info. I have not heard yet. Fingers crossed.

Hi littlejr,

I have my assessment day for Lloyds next week and I just wondered what the presentation was exactly? Do they want it on a topic you choose or one they give you?
Also does the face to face interview have many competancy based questions?

Thanks for the help!

Hi,, what programme have you applied for? I got an email last week that I have been successful but they cannot invite me for an assessment center as they are close to makin offers? i am very disappointed.

ematcaterham

Hi,

My assessment centre is for the Claims Talent Program. I originally applied for the gradute scheme but did not make it past the telephone interview, however they then asked me if i would like to apply for the Claims talent program and they fast tracked me through to the telephone interview stage. Dont worry, they make not have made as many offers as they were expecting and may invite you to an assessment centre at a later stage.

Any comments about the assessment centre would be useful as it is tomorrow!

littlejr

Sorry - just seeing this. The presentation was on a topic they chose. Last year it was, what challenges and oppportunities are Lloyd's facing. They didn't give you any information, it was all what you already knew and had researched. There was still compentency based questions in the face-to-face so be prepared for that. Last year there was two people interviewing - one asked most of the questions and the other mostly sat there taking notes. I hope that helps! Good luck!

CSP111

I know noone has written on this for a while but I thought I'd update it with my experience. I had a telephone interview today for the 2012 intake for the graduate scheme.

The guy, Colin, rang me a few minutes early and I missed the call but he called backa minute or two later, thank goodness!
He started by saying that Lloyds had been very selective this year in who they gave a telephone interview to so to be very proud of my application.

It was very competency based with a few other questions at the beginning. Make sure you have very specific examples as thats what theyre after.

1. What have you done to improve yourself over the past few years
2. How have you changed in the past year
3. Why insurance

Competency 1: Tell me a time when you had to influence someone. He made me be very specific - what skills, techniques etc! Quite tricky!

Competency 2: When have you had to solve a problem. I used an experience in which I was under pressure and had to solve a problem but he said he wanted a different one where I wasn't under pressure..definitely had to think on my feet!

Competency 3: When have you had to lead a team and, What skills do you need to be a good leader.

The guy was nice if a little strange! It all lasted about 25 minutes and he didn't give me the opportunity to ask questions.

He went on to talk a bit about the Assessment Centre and what to expect (which I hope is a good sign!) He said I should find out in a couple of days or after the end of the interviews in January.

Hope that helps!

jetna_88

Hi CSP111,

Your updated post was very useful!

I was just wondering if you would be able to give me some insight on the numerical tests. In terms of difficulty, are they much harder than the examples on the SHL practice website? I've done a number of these test for various companies and the difficulty seems to vary greatly!

Thanks (fingers crossed you hear back soon)

Etus

hey Jetna_88,

Have u heard back from Lloyd's yet? I had a telephone interview about 3 weeks ago and still have not heard back?

American student looking to intern at Lloyd's this summer. Any advice on what to expect during the numerical test? In the US we don't seem to have these. Best,
