Deloitte Consulting (EA) - Post Offer
Hi all,
I had my AC at Deloitte yesterday. I was fortunate enough to be offered a place on their consulting service line (Enterprice Applications) last night. I received a lot of help from this website during my application process and would like to give something back. Feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to help.
Stacey
Heyyy Stacey,
Congrats !!!!
I got the offer as well for TI Consulting.
Everyone is more than welcome to ask me any queries as well.
Thanks for all the help guys...this website has been my saviour..
Cheers, Arunesh.
Hey Arunesh,
That's such great news, well done! I wonder how everyone else got on. It was an intense day but well worth it obviously!
How was the partner interview?
Guess I will be seeing you around :)
Stacey
Hi guys I have an AC coming up on Monday
Can you give me any advice about the e-tray and Partner presentation
Is the partner presentation about the content of the etray exercise ?
It would be great to have some advise !
The partner interview was good....started off with the etray exercise stuff and then more competency based. But I think he liked my answers and my confidence (at least that's what he said in the feedback)
How about you? well not that u have the offer I assume it must have gone quite well...
Yepp I shall be seeing you around in few months time :)
For the e-tray exercise i would recommend trying out the fast stream example
http://www.civilservice.gov.uk/jobs/faststream/index.aspx
The deloitte one is pretty similar and a bit easier than this.
You spend few mins presenting and about 10 mins discussing with the partner about the case given in the e tray exercise. As far as i can remember it is a company (Book stores) looking to acquire one of the companies (a book store + online sales company), online website, a mail catalogue company and you have to recommend which one would be the ideal choice
Hi Guys
Thanks for the information.
Do you have any aids when you are presenting, for example a flipchart or Powerpoint ?
What order does the day come in? Group exercise and e tray in the morning then interview after lunch ?? or does this just depend on the organisers of the assessment centre you attended. What was your experience?
Many thanks for your help
Hi elib22
The morning begins with the e-tray exercice followed by the written exercise with a short loo break in between. Then you have lunch. The afternoon begins with the group exercise and finishes with the partner interview.
In the partner interview you are expected to give a 10min presentation based on why you decided to recommend Trafford Lea Books (from the mornings exercises) to acquire one of three companies. My presentation was very informal, I did not use a flipchart or Powerpoint. A lot will depend on your partner, I took my lead from the partner interviewing me and lucky for me, he was very laid back and friendly. He invited me to sit down and just talk though my rationalisation process. He did not interrupt me once and only asked 2 fairly straight forward questions at the end. I have heard from other people however that they had a far more gruelling experience, best to be prepared for anything.
Best of luck Stacey
Hi Stacey
Thanks for the reponse. Can you give any advice about what kinds of questions the partner asked - were they similar to the first round interview, competency based?
Also were you asked anything specific about EA, previous examples of client work, or particular projects, programmes used or any current news stories ??
With the e-tray exercise , is it as time pressured as the online tests for example, can you expect to give a response to all the emails in the hour??
Many thanks for your advice. Congrats on your offer
Hey elib 22,
I was not asked anything specific about EA, previous client work, or projects/ programs. Nor was I asked to comment on any recent news stories although I was prepared for all of those q's. The partner interview was a lot more informal than the first interview. Questions included "why Deloitte", "why consulting", "why not our competitors" etc. I was asked no competency qu's but that will depend on your partner.
The e tray is very time pressured, but you should expect to finish within the hour - I finished with 10mins to spare.
Best of luck for tomorrow, Stacey
Hi guys,
thanks for the above about the 2nd interview -i just got the call for the first round interview for consulting (no pref -but i will be going for EA) on the 7th april! could you give me an idea of what type of questions i might be asked in this interview? which competencies did they ask you about, or was it just those listed on the website? i have done a fair bit of prep for it, but just so i know i havent missed any...
also, we are going to be given a case study to read while we wait for the interview, did you have that as well? if so, what sort of case was it, how difficult, what sort of questions were you asked etc?
is there anything specific i need to prepare or know about for EA? any other advice about the interview/ day as a whole you could give would be v v v much appreciated!
thanks, and congrats on your offers!
jason
Congrats guy! What's the starting salary for consulting at deloitte? Are you both working in London?
Hi Stacey
I have a 1st round interview for consulting (no preferred service line) coming up this week and was wondering if you could shed some light on the case study that they gave you. Do they want you to identify the key issues within the case and then propose some potential solutions as well as benefits and risks, etc. Also, do you think that it would be good to frame your answers in the services that Deloitte offers (i.e. Upgrading the CRM platforms, developing an integrated IT system). Lastly, is anything that I can read up on/practice that would be relevant to the way Deloitte gives a case study.
Thanks, Oliver.
Hi Stacey! Congrats on you offer. I have my Assessment Day coming up and I wanted to know more about the Group Excercise! Is it a case study?
Many thanks!
Starz
Congratulations!
I'm having trouble getting to the core of what is involved in EA. Other than the information on the Deloitte website, can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Hi guys, I’ve recently received an offer for Technology Integration for this September:
Black_Label – although it hasn’t been finalised for this year, the salary for last year’s graduate consultants was £31,500 with a £600 bonus.
Starz - The group task was to recommend one city as an ideal choice for setting up a theme park. Each of you will represent different regions, and you have to persuade everyone else that the theme park should be built in your region. You each get regional data to help you make a case.
TheBusker - Rather than looking at IT costs or IT strategy (Technology Integration), Enterprise Applications involves the practical application of technology end-to-end solutions such as SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, CRM Systems or SCM packages.
Hope that helps guys, Let me know if you have any other questions x.
Hi ac98005,
Thank you very much for the info. Do you have any idea of how many graduates were recruited from your Assessment Day?
Many thanks X
I'm afraid i'm not too sure - I wanted to ask my partner when he called but thought against it - probably none of my business!
There were 6 of us on the day, two for each service line (TI, EA and Ops), with one partner from each service line assessing two candidates. In addition to interviewing you at the end, your partner also assesses you during the group exercise.
I was interviewed second, but I'm not sure how the other guy doing TI got on.
When's the big day? Good luck!
what is my chances of been shortlisted by the BIG 4 . I ma from a very low ranked university with a first class honours in technology and e-coomerce. Employers don't come to my university for recruitment but I will like to work as a IT consultant.
I'm really nervous about my first round interview - could anyone offer me any tip/advice on the case study?? I know they're all different, but how do you approach one?
Hi there, I attended the assessment day on the 18th May as an experienced hire, and found it to be a strange experience. When invited to the assessment day I was told that structure would consist of: 1· 1 hour for a written exercise on an A4 sheet 2· 1 hour to prepare a 10 min presentation based on a case study, the case study is based on a real life client scenario, and is given on the day. 3· Presentation Interview: 45 mins altogether. 4· Partner/Senior interview: 45 mins from start to finish. 5· A group exercise
Due to the unavailability of a partner and the lack of candidate numbers (I presume) the structure was changed, so only 1, 2, 3 were assessed.
Upon arrival I was shown a room in which to prepare my presentation and written exercise. Although I arrived on time we started slightly late and therefore didn't have the full 2 hours to prepare. It was a fairly warm day and no water was offered - not sure if the lack of offer of water/beverage was part of the test, but I found it bizarre. The A4 sheet stipulated on point 1 wasn't provided so we used the A5 pad we found in a cupboard in the room...and some pencil.
I appreciate that in a real working environment one has to adapt to circumstances, and maybe I am being a bit petty with some of the points. To me the whole thing seemed a bit disorganized. I eagerly await the outcome and at this point honestly don't know if it will be positive or otherwise.
Can I ask if anyone on this message board had similar experiences?
Hi all, i had created a new thread for asking my question, but think i should use this one.
I have around 5 years of experience in consulting and was interviewed last week for the role of senior consultant - Technology consultant at Deloitte. Both, my 10 minute telephonic interview and also an hour long interview with the Manager went fine.
The manager mentioned that i would get the feedback by the week, but I m yet to hear from them. It has been just 3 days so I think they may get back to me next week.
I read most of the articles on his portal, but saw that majority of the posts were related to Graduate openings. Can someone please let me knnow what is the process of experienced hires? Is assessment day conducted for experienced people?
I have not recently graduated from any school, have not done my masters and also hold an engineering degree along with my 5 years of experience.
I would be grateful in case someone can provide some information.
Hey guys,
Does anyone know how rigid the assignment to a particular consulting group is? I have an offer for EA and also an offer for management consulting at PwC. Generally speaking I like Deloitte more, but I am worried a little bit about being locked in something very specific as EA. I would like to eventually switch to more general Operations or maybe Strategy. Does anyone know whether it is possible to switch to Operations after say a year?
Thanks.
Hey SD,
All the best mate.
So did you have your assessment day/interview process?
It would be great if you could share your experience.
I have applied to Deloitte's Senior Consultant - SAP - EA role.
I have 5 years of experience and holding a master's degree.
I want to know if assessment day is conducted for experienced hires and if yes, what all is included.
Would be grateful if someone can provide some info.
Ross,
FWIW. I have an upcoming face-to-face (2nd interview, first was a phone one) with Accenture. The e-mails says:
1.5 hrs case interview with a Snr Exec 1 hr HR interview
I would assume that they do have some semblance of an assessment day with MBAs, but given the above, I am inclined to think otherwise (for experienced hires).
Saying that, what they can do is have a team case itvw where you have grads and those with, say, 15 years behind them in the same group.
Hi SD,
How did it go. Were there only two interview (telephonic) and one face to face?
Please can you share what kind of questions are asked in both interviews.
Cheers
@nash
Congrats on your offer !
I got an invite for the 2nd round interview with Deoitte in TI consulting. I do not have a Technical background and was hoping if you could tell me if I need some prior knowledge for the interview and answering the case study?
cheers Zephyra
Hi zephyra,
All consulting competency interviews are same/standard and so the answer would be NO...although it doesn't harm to chip in any specific knowledge. They don't expect any specific techie lingo knowledge since any one can apply as is the case with you. The cases are not like proper hard core cases as someone like McKinsey or Bain would give so just use common sense and say what you feel could be done. They are looking for rational practical thoughts and not barfing text lingo...so don't worry mate.
Go read up on shared-services and outsourcing etc and that should sail you through!! ;P
Hi Sliparee,

I applied for the 2011 start Operations Consulting graduate scheme. There are quite a few posts about application process for the big 4 in general but I owe a lot to wikijob so I feel I should summarise my experiences and give advice. The application process started with the usual application form and then the very routine and almost pointless telephone interview. First Interview: For consulting applications you are required to read a case study and the interviewer will question you on it. 15 mins to read around 5 pages, there’s a lot to read in that time so skim it taking in the relevant points. I didn’t perform particularly well in the case study as I couldn’t remember it, the interviewer first asked me competency questions and then moved on to the case study. By that time it had been over an hour since I read the case so I forgot most of it. The important thing is to think on your feet and ask for clarification if you’re unsure. You are allowed to refer back to the case study for your answers. As for competencies I was asked two on each of their comps. The main thing to focus on is building a rapport with the interviewer, so just be friendly and talkative. A/C: Consists of an etray, lunch with trainees, group exercise and partner interview. Etray, Written Exercise: From all of the other posts I’m sure u know what an etray is. Very similar to the civil service one, it’s important to show prioritisation and task management. Take responsibility; look up information before u make a decision etcc. The written exercise is just writing recommendations relating to some info. Doesnt require prior knowledge. Just structure ur work, correct spelling , punctuation and grammar etc. Group Exercise: This exercise requires reading a case study. Mine was on themeparks, each person has an additional piece of info that only they are given. There will be around 6-8 other people. The exercise will be observed by the PARTNERS interviewing you. So the impression you make during the group exercise determines pretty much the outcome of ur partner interview as well. Show respect, don’t interrupt and build relationships i.e. learn everyones names, encourage good ideas and involve others. Even though the brief will tell you to push for your own ideas, you are not judged on the final decision; it’s all about how u contributed to the team. Make sure the group is organised and structured. IMO doing things like taking the time is important, but there’s no need to be too extra. Partner Interview: Started off by asking me questions about my written exercise. Nothing too taxing, just need to think on your feet. Apart from that, routine partner interview, questions can vary, based on past experiences and some competencies too. Can be quite relaxed but make sure you demonstrate strong motivation for working at Deloitte, knowledge of the programme and the firm in general as well as exams etc usual career motivation stuff. My answers to questions like why deloitte were quite generic to why big 4, its important that ur answers show u are really enthusiastic about DELOITTE, try and incorporate what they have to offer over other companies and why you are genuinely enthusiastic.
Hi guys,
I'm awaiting a date for my assessment day with Deloitte, but am currently sitting on an offer for Accenture.
Would any of you guys who have now started with Deloitte just send me a quick message to let me know how you've found things since you've started? In general I do seem to hear good things about Deloitte and a few more negatives with Accenture so want to make an informed decision as to whether I should persue my application with Deloitte. I know the two companies are quite different in the scale of projects and the entry routes are quite the opposite (for instance I've been aligned with Enterprise Applications with DEL but would join the ACG with ACN).
Anyway, any inputs and opinions would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance,
Hestar
Hi,
I have just passed my first interview for consulting EA, and am waiting for an AC. I am very worried that spaces will fill up before i have a chance to attend an AC. Is anyone in the same position? Anyone else going for EA? I sent my application in November so im worried that i will be bottom of the list as i gather thats quite late! Any info would be greatly appreciated. PM if anyones wants some details of the EA first round interview.
Cheers!
Hey guys
I applied for Strategy Consulting but they filled their vacancies before I even got a first round interview. They've put me forward for Enterprise Applications, but I'm not too sure what this division is about. I've got in touch with them and researched into it, and I'm not too sure EA Consulting is for me really. Sounds effectively like IT Consulting to me. I know Deloitte is a great place to work, and the salary is pretty good, but I'm considering doing a masters at UCL instead.
I've currently got an offer to do an internship at another Big 4 for this coming summer, so thinking I might withdraw from Deloitte and reapply for next year.
What do you guys think? A few of my friends have told me to just do the interviews, and if I get an offer, it's a great opportunity to start a career. EA isn't what I originally wanted to do; am I just being fussy? What's your guys motivation to work in EA? Long-term career goals etc? Do you reckon there's much lateral movement into Strategy etc?
Any thoughts are much much appreciated!
Hi SD,
I have my first 1 hour interview coming up next week and was wondering if you could tell me what kind of questions you were asked by the Manager? I have been told to expect a mixture of technical and competency based questions...
Thanks
Hello All, I have first round of interview with Deloitte manager in two week time. I have applied under Enterprise Risk Services under Experienced hires and they have told me that it will competency based interview for 1hr. Can you please share your experience and questions asked by manager? Thanks
