I cant make it either, cant get the day off. It would have been nice to meet everyone before October. Anyone know what has happened to the facebook group. It has gone off the radar, I didnt want to join until i was sure i was in.

not yet Paul!

Got mine electronically and returned it today. I opted for the fully funded option at Warwick for ease sake. I cant make the 5th as Im back in Greece. The facebook group if I'm talking about the same one is secret now I got an email from someone at NR

what were the options for funding. And did it make any comment on positions that will be on offer at the end

no none at all you have the option of full funding for accomo or a lump sum which I wont disclose on here !

thanks

Your welcome I just wouldnt wanna put a figure on here because its not private,

Has anyone received their contract by post yet?

Im still waiting too,....

anyone else still waiting for their contract.

Yeah I'm still waiting too. Not really sure whats happening

got my contact sent it back today. Can't believe they need to get references when we have already given them to the uni. Taken me weeks to get the first ones sorted, and they only have 20days to receive my contract, process it and get my references.

hey guys was jut wondering if anyone has sent off the applcation form to ucl and had any feedback or innformation beeen totally kept in the dark by them was wondering if anyone could shed some light thank you x

Sent my offer letter back today. Can't believe it took so long. But from what I gathered on the form we don't need to get references this time, they contact the referees themselves.

Bit over a week ago GroovyChick I got an email from UCL saying they'd received my application successfully. They said were just getting it vetted by the Admissions Office before they converted the Director of Course Studies and Network Rail's two recommendations into an official offer of admission. I'm sure its fine, I was directly contacted by a Network Rail manager today who said he was reserving student accommodation this week and would I say what my choice was?

Hope this helps, its been a long Summer...

Please Scottish Paul / SKR did you get your contract via a recorded delivery or was it just slipped into your letter box.....I still haven't got mine and I am expecting it badly!!!!!

Mine was slipped in my letter box, and was sent on the 4th August. I was also sent (as I actually wanted) an electronic copy by email on the 17th August. Go figure.

I got mine through the post it wasn't recorded, tom are you going to warwick. I had to call and sort out my accommodation also had to fill out an online form. I emailed them about the reference as it says in the contract that they need to be in one month prior to starting, but they said not to worry. Also on the 4th warwick sent out joinung information which i did not receive until i emailed them on friday.

Hi GroovyChick,

Still haven't received anything from UCL since sending off the application to them over 2 weeks ago. I got a generic e-mail off them saying it was being vetted by admissions. I imagine they will send some sort of official info pack out soon. I know things are moving along though as the references I gave have been contacted, both by UCL and Network Rail. It does all seem to be taking quite a bit of time though, but then again so has the process since the very beginning.

I sent back a mail to NR asking about my preference of accommodation which was a bit strange considering we already had to fill this out on the contract, but there you go.

Kieran

Hello all! Firstly I would like to know who has opted for emily bowes court as accomodation as they are at UCL? The reason I ask is that the area where these halls are are apparently quite rough(told by mates who live near by that area - tottenham hale) and at night are hard to get back to after a night out..I am thinking of looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom house..I am seeing them for around £500 a week for 3 people which is not bad and thats right in Euston beside UCL...this works out to be £41 extra a week on top of the £6000 we are given..but I checked and for a oyster student card for a month where the halls are at is £85 a month..plus taxis etc back at night make it about the same i think..just want to see whos interested in this idea cos i think i might fancy staying a bit closer to central??

Any thoughts and queries would be appreciated.

Vik

hey vik, I have heard the same about the area as well, and am really not sure about living there your idea sounds good too although if we had a larger house/more rooms maybe we could get the price down a bit. have you heard anything from UCL any information about starting, refrences etc.

There are 4-5 bedroom houses too but they start really pushing the price up instead of down iv found..i would preferrably like to only spend the £500 a month we each have tbh but il keep looking..if you can have a look it would be usefull and hopefully we can generate some interest here and get a couple more people.. I spoke to Linsey Perry and she said registration starts on the 27th so she said move in on the 26th of sept which is a sunday..i think its all good and she said she will be in contact in a week or so. We really need to get 2 or 3 people in on our idea and get everyone to look so we can all change to the cash option. As we will be students we will be exempt from council tax aswell.. lets see who says what and when and hopefully we can find a property (send me a pm if u do) Cheers Vik x

I've lived in the Finsbury Park/ Seven Sisters Road area for 3 years and haven't ever had a problem. The Hale area is rough compared to some I admit (as any in our price-range will be), but you won't be going to the kind of places where it would be a problem. Emily Bowes Court is literally next to the tube station, and you probably will only go to the local area to shop (at the amazing ethnic shops and giant retail park next door).

That also means that transport is very easy, particularly as after midnight you can always get the N73 bus (every 5 mins all night) from UCL or Centre Point all the way to the gates of the Court in 30-40 minutes. Oyster fees are expensive, but they will be where-ever in London you go.

I strongly recommend not getting a place of your own, as I was told by both UCL and Network Rail that the reason for them assigning us Halls was that when they tried it out last year it turned out the grades and the atmosphere went up and the cohort bonded very strongly. I'd like to experience that myself!

hey was reading through the email sent about the welcome day and it mentions about an interview day to match you to a role. Did anyone find out what roles will be on offer and are we guaranteed to be on the graduate starting salary.

Hi all..SKR I understand what your staying but I received a call today and iv been offered a 3 bedroom flat..it's huge and in amazing condition and it will cost £485 a month Inc bills..10mim walk away from uni..anyone interested let me know. SKR I will keep in mind what you have said but I will cool with people studying at the flat etc so I don't see the problem with bonding lol! Anyone let me know if your interested.

ScottishPaul - they told us at the welcome day that we will be able to preference our choices of where we work within NR and that we will all go to an interview day in late May. They said that they could not guarantee we will get our first preference in terms of place to live or the part of NR we opt to work in; nor can they say what jobs will come up, as it will depend on business need at the time. So in terms of salary, it is relatively up in the air.

For those looking for independent accom, there is www.gumtree.com - I found my place in SE London from that site two and a half years ago. I'm going to stay living there as the cash option covers my yearly rent and bills to the penny, but totally take SKR's point about getting to know each other. Will be happy to have people over my way for study / socials and also arrange some evenings out to places - however appreciate that people may not want to venture sarf of the river, so can always go to some decent places in central and north London.

Not sure if you are aware, but the TfL Oyster student discount applications open from 1 September, so hopefully we will get offer letters soon so that we can make the most of it and save the pennies.

If any of you are thinking about joining a gym / swim pool, the EnergyBase (which is part of University of London Union) is a decent venue. I train there with my swimming team and it is clean, modern and close to the Bartlett. An annual membership costs £250 for students and includes unlimited use of gym / pool / exercise classes. http://www.ulu.co.uk/ They also do monthly membership payment options.

Just realised I sound like a walking advert, but thought the above may be of interest, particularly if you don't currently live in London.

Looking forward to meeting you all at UCL and hope you are having a good autumn - someone told me it was August the other day, but I think they were just telling porkies ;-)

Ant

Thanks ive emailed them to find out.... I currently have a job and was worried that i leave my job and then we would get to the end of the course and they offer us a 15k a year job and that i would have to move to take up the job.

VIK X

nobody??? surely two people would be up for living in central london beside uni??

Just wondering what reading course prep people going to Warwick are doing? The list given in the Arrival information was pretty limited. Also, I'm assuming that most people going to Warwick are staying in halls?

Hey all! Did anyone going to Ucl get an email from the halls guy?? When is everyone moving in? Would be cool to coincide and chill before we head to Uni! Vik

I haven't had any email from any halls guy yet vik, though I'd like to try and coincide too. When did you get yours?

Hello,

I got an e-mail from the halls guy. It asks you to change your password and then logs you onto UNITE where you can book your room. If you don't book a room you have no options on this site. I thought all the bookings would be done by NR? I'm heading down there next Monday I think.

See you all there,

Kieran

Hey guys,

I had an email from the halls guy too. I've since spoken to someone at Emily Bowes and he said that we didn't need to book a room online and when us guys from NR get there they will allocate us a room then.

I was thinking of heading down at the weekend possibly Sunday. How about the rest of you?

I got my email on Sat just gone..just said to let him know when I think il be arriving to make sure the room is ready..i hope we are living together..otherwise im going to be pretty pissed off..i had other flat options but didnt persue them whole heartedly as I got the feeling that everyone wanted to kinda stay together at the halls to ensure maximum results during uni. Im heading down on Friday to drop stuff off and if someone is there then cool if not il move in on the sat..but kieren we have registration on Monday i think??? SKR when are you thinking of moving down? I am right in thinking that we are meant to be living together?

My name wasn't on their system when I phoned up but when I mentioned NR the guy was like 'oh cool no problem thats all separate'. He just asked when I was likely to get there and said it would all be sorted when you come. So I wouldn't worry too much and think its highly likely that we'll all be living together. Also on the paper we got at the UCL interview it says 'you will only be sharing with other student on the NR programme'.

Hey Vik, Although the official start date for the UCL academic year is Monday 27th, according to the info I received via e-mail from the uni, the MSc for NR only starts on the Wednesday at 09:00 (Venue to be announced). All we have to do before this is enrol as a UCL student which can be done on Sat 25th, Sun 26th, Mon 27th or Tues 28th during the hours stated in the info e-mail.

I'm sure we'll all be living together, don't panic...

Kieran

Please can anyone give me the email address or phone number (not the generic UNITE one) for the UCL/ Emily bowes court halls guy who's contacted you so I can ask about my situation?

Hey Kieran,

im not panicing..its just that its now tuesday and tbh not many of us are still sorted as yet...this begins to lead me to believe that this has been shitly organised so not entirely feeling confident about the script. I am coming from Glasgow and its a bank holiday weekend..the roads are going to be mobbed, train/planes, are extoritionate so I need to make my plans quick..im still waiting to hear back as to what date i can enter my room...who knows..!! SKR 0208 801 3335 is for emily bowes court managers office..best number to call..i was told its really busy so keep trying if no one pics up.
