Could anyone offer me a bit advice on GT's online test?
I will really appreciate it~~Thanks!!

GradJobHunter

It's not really different to any of the others I believe

fahad_299

Does anyone know how many questions you have to get correct to pass the online test???

Thanks.

GradJobHunter

The results come as percentiles not marks

i.e. if you are in the 70th percentile you did better than 70% of the other people who took the test

rach18

Hey

Does anyone know if they are psl or shl...or are we just supposed to practise all types of tests? thanks

fahad_299

they are psl!!

pumpkinlily

they are psl and they are difficult :(

GradJobHunter

TBH I think the GT tests are one of the easier ones

KPMG and Baker Tilly are hard

MSS

i think its more to do with the batch of questions that come up. I wouldn't say KPMG and Baker Tilly are hard, but the pass mark may be higher than other companies and so they seem harder.

is psl the same as kenexa? i find them slightly better, as you can move backwards and forwards between questions.

GradJobHunter

KPMG pass mark is the lowest.....

pumpkinlily

their questions are not actually too hard, but with the given time limit, I did panic a lot, I tried to finish all questions but it seemed impossible

grad2009

Some questions were okay but some required more thinking - which was tough given the time constraint

superstitiouzz

how long do we have to wait till they let us know of the online tests results?

liyaah2009@hotm...

I got an email the same day. good luck :)

superstitiouzz

They haven't got back to me yet. Does that mean I fail?? The recruitment team for GT is very slow!! I have got others back already. ;(

liyaah2009@hotm...

No!!! I appiled to a small office early in the grad cycle so the recriutment officer for the area prob had no back log :)

mjf

Which office did you apply to superstitiouzz? heard yet. Hear it depends how many people they have ahead of you at interview. And timing doesnt always mean no maybe. Have you contacted them? The tel numbers are listed on their brochure and webpage. Good luck

Hi
I've submitted my application to GT and been told I've passed initial screening and been placed into a pool for online testing. This was about 2 weeks ago. Is this normal protocol? Should I get in touch with them?
Thanks

princehaque

Hey Tell 89 log onto your GT application page as soon as possible. You will find links for the tests. They normally give you 10 days to complete. I hope you will still get the chance.

Hi tell89,

GT put people through to that stage when there are a lot of applicants for the role. It means there are probably a few people ahead of you at interview stage so theres no point sending you through to test yet because even if you passed it they couldnt progress you further yet. Its good you got through the application screen as a lot of people dont. A call to the HR of the office youve applied to is probably a good idea so you can see if theres anymore detail they can give you about how long you might wait to hear. Has it been 2 weeks since you were at that stage or 2 weeks since you applied? And what office have you applied to? If London Audit, they are always swamped so it can take longer.

Hope this helps and good luck

tell89

Hi mjf

Thanks for the reply. Sent the HR person an email and they got back to me saying I could do the tests. It is the London office for audit. Do you know what the pass marks are like for the tests?

Thanks

mjf

Hiya, good news you are through to tests. Do you normally find them ok?

Its a tricky one with the pass mark as there isnt a percentage I can give you. Instead you're result is compared to a grad norm table and you're given a percentile mark. About two thirds of people get through the test. Also - its not all about the number of questions - as it depends on right answers, number answered and answer difficulty. To be honest, the best advice I can give is what you've probably heard already - practice a lot. Make sure you practice with a timed test as thats what is the tricky bit. The few practice questions at the start of tests are always easier as they are supposed to show you the format of the question and how to answer only. You can go ont supplier websites like SHL and Kenexa to get practice tests to take. Also i think wikijob talk about tests and have links to them which might help. You need to balance taking the time to practice with doing the tests as soon as you can too so you;re in with a chance later with interview slots and roles being available.

Good luck!

Just a thought also but have you seen the trainee blog on the website?
www.grant-thornton.co.uk/traineeblog

You can talk and ask questions direct to trainees as well if this would help? Can also help with prep for interviews if you do make it through as theres news, blogs about what its like to work at GT etc.

Hope that helps

Hi! I just received an email about passing the application review but now they are considering it for the next stage, i.e, the online testing. Surely, if you've passed the app review, are you not automatically going to the next stage?

ohohoh

hey! I've got the same email. any feedback you've got from them?

BrachioZ

I guess it depends on if they have enough people?

E.G. If they have already for 1000 people for 50 spots, which are filled, they might not need you to complete the test?

Or I guess they just want to delay you! :P

ohohoh

lol i'd take the second option although the first one is more plausible :P

BrachioZ

Haha.

Good Luck with your application.

Are you a graduate?

tell89

Hi mjf

Thanks for all the useful information. I mostly do fine on the tests, numerical I pass, the verbal is more mixed, probably because I think about them too much.
I take it you work for Grant Thornton? because you seem to know an awful lot about this process.

Thanks

ohohoh

No not yet, but graduating in 2011.

Hi guys,

I've just been to a face to face interview with Grant Thornton and it would appear that they have very few places for this years intake. Notably it seemed they had been very specific in who they had put through to the online tests and the pass mark required to get to interview.

I wouldn't worry to much if you have applied to a regional office but if you selected London as your chosen location you may have to wait up to 6 weeks before you are put forward for testing.

mjf

Hi tell89 - yep work for Grant Thornton. Good luck with both tests!

Hi mbmt - good luck with the outcome of your interview.

Your comment about places isnt quite true actually as we are hiring more grads, interns, school leavers and 12 month placements this year = 280 instead of 230. Maybe the impression you got was because we converted a lot of our previous summer interns to this grad class so in some locations they are looking for less grads now as already filled some places.

Agree there are always more applications in London (and particularly audit) and could be tougher due to this - but there are also more vacancies so your call. Actually you may be asked why you want to work in a particular office so good to think this through. If you arent worried about the location, I would look at places like Kettering, Ipswich, Norwich, Slough, Gatwick and Milton Keynes maybe though. Less people know about these.

You are right about being more specific about who goes through to test though. There is more people who pass the screening than we have space for at interview so we slow some candidates down whilst we see the outcome of the others ahead of them. We do try to move people as quickly as possible though and its really good for people to apply earlier in the season whilst the majority of vacancies are still free (like now).

Hope this helps, happy to answer any questions if people want?

Hi guys,

Just thought I share my experience with you guys.

I sent my application for the London - Audit last Friday. I got a confirmation email on Monday saying that application was successful and that my application is placed in a pool to be considered for the next stage (testing).

I called them up and basically the recruitment lady told me that this is due to the fact that they have received a lot of application and will place new applicants on hold.

I spoke to the lady and her advise was whether would I consider transferring my application to my second choice office location which was Southampton. I thought about and decided to transfer my application as I know that there is going to be a long queue for the London role.

My application was successfully transfered on Wednesday and I got an email this morning inviting me to take the online test. I did it and received a confirmation 30 min later saying that I have passed.

And guess what - I have been placed in another pool to be considered for the first interview. Has anyone been placed in a pool to be considered for the first interview and approx how long do I have to wait to get an interview.

Thanks
