Ernst & Young Saville Consulting Aptitude Test
Hi guys,
I am invited to take the online ability test for an advisory position at E&Y this week. I have finished the preparation tests (http://www.savilleconsulting.com/products/aptitude_preparationguides.aspx) already but I would like to practice more. Who of you has done this specific test already and who can give recommendations about good books / websites to practice this test. I got this book: How to Pass Professional Level Psychometric Tests (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pass-Professional-Level-Psychometric-Tests/dp/0749442077?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1198665735&sr=8-1) but it seems as if the question in the book are much easier than the actual test.
I am grateful for any advice!
Cheers.
For the verbal and numerical just practise the general skills needed (wikijob, efinancialcareers, shl practise tests).
For the input / output tests there is a book I bought by Mike Bryon called Diagrammatic reasoning tests. It helped. Also for the input / output it helps to draw the sequence out on paper if you find it hard to visualise the effect of various functions (e.g. shade small triangles).
Honestly though, the on-line test is not that difficult. Just make sure you keep track of time. 8 questions in 8 minutes. If you get to the AC then it's the same format but 8 questions in 6 minutes!
Stay relaxed and good luck!
Both free and paid for practice tests are available on the verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning wiki pages on WikiJob. For further literature about taking tests and answering psychometric test questions I would recommend this site, too.
hi! I am in the same situation as well... but when I went to the recommended page for practice, I got confused! Do we have to do all these tests that saville comsulting offers or will we be tested into specific ones e.g. numerical, verbal and mechanical? did anybody took the test to let us know which exactly categories should we practice on?
=)
thanks!
hey good people.have an interview @ey tomorrow for aptitude can someone please give me clues?
EY's new online tests... any one have any idea how many out of 8 questions for every set (verbal, numerical and diagrammatic) do you need to be correct in order to pass..... im pretty sure i got 8/8 correct for numerical but 6/8 for both verbal and diagrammatic tests... quite worried if i made it thru.... tests aren't that hard, its just the 3 minutes time limit per 4 question set.... i heard that since the tests are easy, the pass mark is close to 90% or something... that would mean i need atleast 7/8 correct for every set (verbal, numerical and diagrammatic).... not sure though... :p
Can any of you who have taken the test give some feedback on how you found it please?
It is really not that difficult. Practice numerical, verbal and input/output diagram tests and you won't have any problems. The test at the AC IS harder because you have only 6 minutes to answer the same amount of questions. The best advice I can give is to stay relaxed and make sure you have done adequate practice. In my opinion, the verbal was difficult, numerical easy and diagrammatic OK. I thought I did terribly and got an offer anyway, so don't worry about it. Good luck.
Edit: As for most tests, the assessors take into account your percentile score. I'm sure they have tested a sample of current E&Y employees from your division and I imagine they would expect your score to be on par with those results.
I've just taken the online tests, and I think I failed the verbal part after getting a bit panicky. Would I find out right away by email if I did fail?
Thank you, all!
Just a quick question for the AC tests.
So you still, have three sections - verbal, numerical and diagrammatic...but for 6 mins each? What else has changed in the AC since last year?
Thanks.
I think a bit of pre-test meditation would help some of you guys! If you passed GCSE maths/English and are fairly intelligent then you will have no problem passing the Saville Aptitude tests. As I said previously, just practice the general skills needed. Freaking out and asking inane questions on Wikijob probably won't help you pass! Just believe in yourselves and make sure you practice, relax and approach the test with a positive manner
hi guys,
i took the eny online test 4 days ago, but no response yet. how many days does it usually take them to respond? or does it mean im rejected?
waiting for some advise.
cheers
Hi Thomas
I took the test on a Saturday, and received an email on Monday saying I had passed. I know the Deloitte system tells you right away if you have failed, but I'm not sure about EY. Its possible that like Deloitte, it is a good sign that you haven't received an email saying you failed. I guess you just have to wait and see. If its really killing you then I think it wouldn't harm to give them a call so you can move forward with your application.
Good luck!
Hey guys!
Sorry if these question has been answered in another thread but:
(i) Does anyone know if you have to take all three tests (verbal, numerical, and diagramatic) in one sitting?
(ii) Also, is the order in which you have to take them standard? ie. verbal first, followed by numerical and then diagramatic?
Thanks!
yes and yes. apparently if your web connection dies you can start it up again later (but i wouldn't want to test that), besides that you can't quit half-way through.
Thomas Paul, did you ever hear back? successful i hope. how long did it take in the end?
Just letting you guys know that the EY online test now allows only 6 minutes rather that 8 minutes per set of 8 questions.
Hi everybody. Does somebody know what kind of paper test you have to pass while in the AC (Graduate Program in Taxes)? Saville Consulting 3 parts or PSL 32 questions in 35 min? Thanks!
hi taya1974
they use Saville consulting 3 parts, same as the ones online
So, no one can actually tell us or post some of the questions? come on guys, spread the love!
alternatively, you could just go to saville's website and download their practice pdf's.
Gave the test on Sunday and got an email on Monday that I've got through...general numercial, verbal n diagrammatic with 6 mins per section (8 questions).
Are you guys sure we have to do one at the AC too? Or does it vary from line to line? Mine is IT advisory.
It was a standard part of the AC, so I'd guess it was the same for everyone.
Hi guys, just a quick question do you know whether the operators functionality (such asT,U,V +, ^ and the rest) on the diagrammatic section (the one with the figures) of the online test stay the same as defined in the sample tests?
10x and good luck to anyone taking the test !
no, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a test ;)
the first set of operators are easy, the second set get harder naturally.
hi everyone. does everyone have to do this first test or is it wavered for some particular set of people. i serious don't wanna do it although i have been given 7 days to complete the test. i also did A-level maths so why was i asked to do the test?
Any advice would be cherished.
Hi, I mistakenly pressed on the start test.
I have pressed the abort test, but a pop-up message comes that my result would not be recorded and I can not restart the test.
I did not start the test in the first place.
It was only the first page.. I have not even seen the practice questions.
I don't think I will like to do the test now, since I am not prepared.
Can anyone advise me now, as I need to know what to do.
Thank you
I did the same and started the test...dont abort it and take it ....i passed btw>>
Hey guys !
I did the online test over a week now and still haven't got a response back. Is this normal, have any of you been in the same situation with Ernst and Young ? Moreover what should I do, should I continue waiting or it is a good idea to call them ?
10x
It would be a good idea to call them n see. Usually they say the results the next day or at the maximum within 2 days.
Hi Everyone!
I just received the email from EY telling me to take their online test in the next seven days. I've read some of the responses on here and they've been a big help. I was just wondering if anyone had any other additional advice in preparing for the Saville Test. I'm from the States but have applied to Audit in UK, so was just wondering what to expect on these psychometric tests. Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
just ook the test and it said error in sending due to problems with my interenet connection. My connection was fine so i dont know what that was about. anyone have any ideas??? I hope i'm not overreacting.

I got an email 2 days after doing the test. It seems like I passed, because I've been invited for an interview. I'm quite surprised, as I panicked during the test and skipped one numerical question and one or two diagrammatical ones!

i did the test with no prep and rushed through it, maths is very basic, english is fine just the picture thing was very confusing. I passed, anyhow, anybody know what the next step is.
Can anybody please give me more guidance- Saville have 3 different types of aptitude tests. I dont think it will be the comphension aptitude test so which one out of the 2 listed below have you guys had to sit
1) Analysis Aptitude Range (Verbal, Numerical and Diagrammatic Analysis test types as featured in Swift Analysis Aptitude, Professional Aptitudes and Work Aptitudes)
2)Technical Aptitude Range (Spatial Reasoning test as featured in Swift Technical Aptitude and Practical Aptitudes)
I have my test on Thursday so any help will be appreciated!
Thank you people!
U just need the verbal, numerical and diagrammatic tests badrinas!
They're pretty simple trust me...do the examples and then basically if u can get the answer to (12x12)/10 in 4 seconds u will pass them ;P
Great thanks! Well not quite 4 secs but practice makes perfect right?!
Did u get a brief from E&Y of what the AC was going to be about? I got one and basically it says its in 2 stages- if you pass first stage then i will get the partner intereview which is the 2nd stage (ALready had my telephone interview full of competency based questions then got through to the AC).
The first part has 2 excercies- All they say is Technical and Development interview and the 2nd excercie is a group one. I am assuming the first is the aptitude test.....
Did u have a similar brief for the AC??
Nope, mine is a different route for IT advisory...online tests, face to face interview, AC with group n tray exercises n then if successful a partner interview...good luck
My role is for a Finance conversion programme in Assurance for qualified accountants, so not quite a graduate but hoping the procedure is the same...can't find any resources for experienced roles! Arrgh!
thanks for your help though cyborg!
I applied for auditing job in E&Y.They invited me for english, accounting and auditing test.I obtained the following marks ENGLISH(100%,88% & 47%),ACCOUNTING 60% & AUDITING 71%.The test is given by me on SUNDAY but yet no reply. What should i do now?? should wait for their call or call them??Kindly can any one also tell me about that whats their passing criteria actually is??
Hmm I'm afraid not, though I would think that the HR people would be more than happy to tell you how many days it would take for them to process your results. Worth giving them a call!
Dear chicksa i made them a call and they tell me that we take a wk to analyze and then we will make you a call by our-self in any of the situation i.e either you pass or you fail our criteria.
Now need to wait more.
I took this test today for PI.
I'm posting the layout of the test because I do not think that the email, the preparation guidelines or this thread are particularly clear.
When looking at the link proved in your email to Saville Consulting, please note that the test explicitly says that the tests are analysis tests. I practised with the comprehension and the analysis PDFs provided. The order will be Verbal, Numerical and then Diagrammatic.
Before each section you'll be given a chance to do 3 practise questions in 3 minutes. There will be feedback (including workings out) at the end of the practise session. In each section you will be given two sets of information or two 'testlets' (v cute name) which each have 4 questions to be answered in 3 minutes. Each testlet is individually timed, so time management is limited; you can't leave a particularly hard table/pie chart for later. Each testlet will time out and move you onto the next question. Because each test is broken up with the practise sessions, I took a few breaks and there is no need for breakneck speed; you can do all three tests in 30 minutes, or you can take 5 minutes break between each test like I did. Although I believe all tests must be taken in one session.
In terms of difficultly I would say these are very easy compared to Deloitte, KPMG and PWC (which I have also taken recently). Do be careful though, I am under the impression that the pass rate is quite high and that E&Y *will* retest at a later stage.
Hope that helps!

Yeah, I'm in the same situation... was invited and did not do well on my previous test so it would be very very helpful if someone could post-up some practice materials or links!!! Thanks!
