Deloitte internal audit
Dear:Guys.
Please Please Is there anyone could possibly help me with the Public Sector Internal Audit application 2010. How was the interview process like and what is the on line test going to be? Someone from this forum phoned up the HR regarding about the interview process and got feedback that the test going to be math and english(what on the earth is that mean?) will it be the same like other standard Psychometric Tests? I looked up Deloitte Web for this role and got nothing really helpful at all except two pdf files send along with the application forms by Deloitte that i have to filed up. Really appreciate for anyone could possible help.
Wish you guys all good luck in job hunting.
Many thanks
Hey, the PSIA application process is totally different to the other deloitte graduate schemes. If you complete the application and they like you they'll invite you to a first interview. Here you'll do a test, not a psychometric one, so don't bother practicing those. It's quite a simple multiple choice test, a few different sections, with a short maths part - no calculators. I didn't prepare for the test and it was fine so I wouldn't worry about it, just pay attention to the time. After the test you'll have an interview, general competency questions (see other pages on this site). My interview was very relaxed and a week later I got a call for a second interview.
Dear:Gabalooloo.
Thank you very very very much for the reply. I am totally desperate here cause i can not find anything relevent to PSIA from their main web. Is there any phone interview before face 2face? the test sounds like really easy to you is that because you are a math genius ?I am not a math person but not dreadful stupid either. If you are so into math then of course everything will be a piece of cake for you. is the test like ratio or percentage caculation sort of things? any english test on the same day cause my first language is not english and got a little bit worried about that. Did you get the job finally( really really really hope from the bottom of my heart that you got it ).
Thank you so much again for the reply and really really looking forward to hear from you again.
All the best to you in your career.
ggd333
That's ok, yeh it is very frustrating that there is no information about this company on Deloitte's website, seeing as they are completely owned by them. I haven't had the second interview yet, its on Thursday so fingers crossed! For me there was no phone interview or anything, it will probably be the same for you but I don't know for sure. The test only had a small maths section, I'm good at maths but I'm not used to no calculator tests but it was just some straight forward calculations. The rest I'm afraid to say is an English based test, mainly focusing on synonyms. It seems that your English is very good so I wouldn't worry too much, my vocabulary is rather shocking but I made educated guesses by eliminating the answers that I knew were wrong. I just wouldn't panic about it too much because I'm sure that they must be more interested in your career motivation and skills than your test score so just appear confident in the interview part.
Dear: Gabalooloo
Thank you so much for this enornous help. I sure you will have a great success in your career and figure cross for you on Thursday. No matter of the result people like you with warm kind heart deserve a better return. Is there any synonyms test you would suggest me to practice pleaae? I can not let myself to bother you anymore.
PLEASE do let me know your good news.( I am sure it must be goog).
God bless you.
Kent university website has a test that could be useful for you to practice http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/tests/synonyms.htm
Hi there,
I also have the first round interview coming up and did not have a telephone interview or online tests to do.
gabalooloo thanks so much for your info...if you dont mind can give a few examples of the numerical test you had as I am very weak in this area.
Im actually really worried bout the tests bcos I am not sure what to expect. I been practicising normal psychometric tests but read ur above posts a while ago.
Any info would be greatley appreciated and I wish u all the best for next stage...am sure u will ace it!
Thanks again in advance
ME TOO.~it sounds like easy about the math test accoring to gabalooloo i am still worry about it. The web gabalooloo provides is really resourceful and save plenty time to google. sophiprincess would you please let me know how long did it take to hear from them for the interview?
thanks a million for any help.
Hi ggd333,
I received the interview invite after 3-4 days of completing the form. When is your interview?
Yes I am worried about the numerical test because there are som many different ones and I usually fail all...if i can get a few examples from gabalooloo (who is probs a maths wiz.lol) i will practice similar ones.
Have u practised for the verbal test? Im unsure 4 this too! I have just done the kent uni link provided (gabalooloo is very kind for the help)
thanks
Yes! Finally found a forum thread regarding Deloitte PSIA!!!
Hello ladies and gents, I also completed a form sent to me via email and subsequently received a call today for a first interview next week.
I hope it went well gabalooloo, and congratulations to you macers!!! If successful, I also am hoping for a September start.
I would like to ask you macers, what was the process with the first interview? What did they ask you? Was it competency based? And also regarding the 2nd interview, did you need to speak to a Deloitte senior member or have a partner interview like the main recruitment process?
I am mainly concerned with the interviews and would like to have an idea of what to expect, more so than the tests.
Thanks guys!!!
congrates red ray. just wondering how long have you been waiting for the 1st interview call?
many thanks
Hi ggd333,
I waited 3 days from submitting application form to receiving the call.
Hey guys, just received a job offer and look forward to meeting you all in September!
The first interview is 50 minutes for a verbal and numerical reasoning test. Non calculator, a few tricky questions [yes maths not my forte] but hey ho multiple choice so just guess! But one piece of reassuring advice I can give is that if you've been doing psychometric practice with companies such as SHL and alike then the PSIA tests are sooo much easier! Just brush up on your synonyms, as this was another tricky area! As for the interview itself, general competency questions that have been given as examples on the Deloitte pages.
The second interview is a further competency based interview with scenarios related to the role, all about assessing whether you’re going to fit in and whether PSIA is for you. Really friendly and relaxed. Just ensure you are fully aware of all aspects of the career and current news applicable to Audit! Relax and enjoy the process of what was definitely a great learning curb in terms of my first professional job interviews and a real pleasure, obviously, to receive a job offer!! xx
Thanks ronnietopaz,
Thats great advice and insight into the process. I have one coming up soon and am wondering how to deal with the salary aspect as there was no advertised amount. This is obviously a personal negotiation, but do you know what the range is for this role? Also, can you provide an example of the sort of scenario questions they asked?
Either way ronnietopaz, sincere thanks for the above post!
Hi,
I've been told that the salary is actually the same for all PSIA graduate scheme by the interviewer, the only reason they ask is not for negotiating but so that someone doesnt come up with a silly or over high figure which would indicate that its more about money.
Congrats to ronnietopaz for getting the job.
thanks
Hi all, I got a call on friday and they offered me a job, yay! I actually found the second interview was quite fun, just chatted to the general manager, it was only meant to be an hour but it ended up being an hour and a half, i just had to ask a simple question and he went into great detail about the company. It showed that he's passionate about PSIA! I guess I'll meet macers and ronnietopaz soon and good luck to the rest of you.
congrates:gabalooloo for the new job offer.
Just wondering as the others who have not been went through the whole interview process. would you please give us a general intruduction regarding about the competences questions you have been asked during the interview. Please Please do help us.
Thank you so much for your effort.
ggd333
audit - the question is just what you expect to be earning, its up to you really. If you say a lot more than they pay they won't dismiss you because of it they will just warn you before hand just in case you won't work for them for less.
ggd333 - competencies are on the deloitte website and there's some pages on here too, the pages for deloitte interview questions are relevant for PSIA as well.
hey everyone, I got a job offer on Friday so those of you already onto the scheme then I will look forward to seeing you. For those that are going through the process I will be more than happy to help out if needed.
Just a general question for those of you that have got a job offer, has HR contacted you at all yet? I'm just wondering what the next step is really lol
congrats zak1057
i'm in the process on applying, ive got to complete the 'most challanging work experience' and salary expectations questions on the CSF.
if you dont mind me asking - what figure did you put in for the expected salary in the careers summary form.
i think i'm over analysing - but i want to make sure i dont go in too high (or too low), even though it doesnt really make a big difference - bcoz they offer the same salary to everyone
Thanks
in terms of most challenging work experience, if you have done an internship then try and relate your most challenging experience around that or if you haven't, then it will help to think about some of the part-time work you have done during your life and think of something that you regard as the most challenging and relate that to skills and attributed you have enhanced or gained in that experience, and most importantly relate it to the skills and attributed that deloitte have asked for in the job description.
in terms of salary expectations, i put 'market standard' and left it as that. During the second interview the general manager discusses salary and as you said, it didn't matter because as far as my understanding is that all graduates will be paid roughly the same.
Hope this help you audit.
thank you so much for this quick reply and i am really really appreciate. best wishes to your career
Hey,
Any chance you could give me some tips on the 2nd round interview for PSIA? Any help would much be appriciated!...what kind of role based questions do they ask? I have mine tomorrow
Thanks
Rizwan
Rizwan,
well done for reaching the second interview. I think the main thing for you to concentrate on is to relax and enjoy the interview as much as you can. Hopefully you have done your research about the company and have bulked up on examples on the different attributed you will talk about.
In terms of questions they will focus on putting you in scenarios and see how you would deal with that particular situation. The interviewer wants to see how you deal with the pressure so just stay calm.
You have to remember that they have called you back for the second interview because they like you, this in itself should give you the self-confidence to go on and shine in the second interview so good luck with that and let me know how you do.
audit,
i start on the 6th of september and opted to do the IIA diploma in internal audit practice. It's the best qualification to do for this particular job role and it sounds interesting so looking forward to it. I think I will be based in an office somewhere in London, will have to wait and see!
Hello people....
I have been on this PSIA graduate scheme..
to be honest it's ALOT easier getting in than in any other grad scheme at deloitte... but it is alot different aswell
the testing is not hard at all
with the professional qualification - they don't really like people doing the ACCA, they try and make people do the IIA but don't let them fool you into thinking its the best thing as it may pigon hole you later on incase you don't like internal audit as most people dont.
I don't want to scare you but it's a very hard environment esp if your based in london... management are not good and the budgets for audits are too tight... and some of the places you have to go and work are awful.
also the pay is really bad - alot less then the rest of the firm... just to warn you...
I know this may sound all very negative but I just want to give you a true insight and not get fooled by the name Deloitte - because this part of the firm is very different.
Lets just say there is hardly anyone left by the end of the three years. People are leaving every month and alot of people leave in the first few months
Also, its mainly the london sectors that are the worst to work for so if this can be avoided I would advise so - reading sector is meant to be alot better.
Sorry for the negativity but it's better than finding out too late.
Well some of us have done our research and know what we are getting ourselves into. Of course you're not going to earn as much as elsewhere in deloitte cos you'll be working with public sector clients not some big corporation. ACCA is good if you don't know if you'll like auditing, but now the IIA is becoming chartered it will be much better for internal auditors. I asked for the figures about who is left at the end and a lot of people do leave at the beginning because its not for them but there is still a majority that make it through, in some years there was just a small majority but still you make it sound like out of the 25 there's only 5 left which is not true. If you have already been on the scheme you should be offering new recruits something constructive not trying to scare them away with your bad experience.
agreed - gabalooloo have you heard back from HR yet or gotten your contract through the post? I'm still waiting on all these minor little things.
Thanks
Zak
No nothing at the mo,why are HR always so slow, i was told i would get it through this week but maybe they all decided to go on holiday and forget about lil ol' me!
Hi guys,
I've been fortunate to get through to the 2nd interview stage. Can anyone help and give us examples of what scenario based questions they ask please?
red ray
gabalooloo:Thank you so much for your post. I t did calm me down. I am still waiting for the call and called them last week regarding about any update with my applications. They told me mine still under review and will get back to me shortly( actually not).
like you said they all went on holidays.
Please let us know your goodnes and anyone else's contribution would be really appreciate.
Just want to say thanks to everyone who has posted on here!! I was too shy to post and really appreciated the help. Thanks to the guys who asked the questions and to those of you who answered! It really calmed my nerves.
To those who have been successful, (gabalooloo, macers, ronnietopaz, zak1057, amongst others,) I'm looking forward to seeing you all in September :) Is everyone doing IIA?? Regarding the contracts, I think they will sort it all when they've got everyone? I got the impression they are near the end of the recruitment cycle and will tie up the loose ends then?
To those still going through the process, best of luck!!!! Hopefully I’ll get to meet you too :) I’d say just stay calm throughout. If you stress, you won’t come across well and will fail the test in the first interview. The second interview is more of a blessing from higher powers?? Learn about exactly what you do in internal audit and what skills you have that are relevant and you’ll be fine.
I prepared two examples just incase but I only went into detail about one on each section. Im pretty sure I may have slipped some more in here and there though? They only asked me for 'an' example.
Don't be nervous!!
Not everyone has a choice of qualification, I would research them both to make sure you know which one is best for you should you be put on the spot to make a choice.
Honestly, you will be fine, as long as:
you do all right on the test, they like you from all your attributes etc, you show good knowledge of Deloitte and you fully understand the PSIA position.
I'm going for East Anglia and ACCA. Hopefully this will all go though fine!!
Good luck and definitely use the STAR approach!
Yo guys. Quick question...I'm starting the Deloitte PSIA contract on 6th Sept in the London region. I'm from dublin so I gotta move over. Is anyone relocating aswell?
Corms1, I'm also starting on the 6th london office. Will be relocating from south west. Which office exactly will you be at? I'll be at the new street square one...
Cheers for the reply macers. I'm not sure which office I'm in yet, gotta wait till I get the offer package in the post. I'm sure we'll all be doing training together tho!Kinda worried moving to London with the high rent and stuff. Whats your plan?
Have you looked up any apartments or anything yet?
Thanks again for the reply and nice one on the job.
I received an offer from Deloitte!
Many thanks for everyone's contribution here, especially macers, gabalooloo, zak1057, missesthepoint and those that gave helpful insight!
This thread has helped a great deal in preparing for the interviews but more importantly for steadying nerves.
I look forward to meeting those who start in September and welcome any messages!
Thanks.
red ray,
congratulations red ray, what office are you going to be based in? I look forward to seeing everyone else that has managed to get a position!
Hi guys! Just got my contract through! (which was very exciting!)
However, just thought i'd ask on here before I make a fool of myself by calling them.. On 'location', it says i'm based in St Albans. Is this for everyone as its psia HQ? I was told I was going to be based in East Anglia so just wanted to check everyone has st albans written down as the 'initial base'. xx
If St Albans is on your contract it will be the office you start in. East Anglia would then be your sector, so you'll be working with clients in that region. I believe that's how it works as you don't really spend much time in the office, you're often travelling to different clients.
missesthepoint,
from my understanding I think there will be offices located where you will be working because I remember in the second interview the guy specifically asking me where I wanted to work. But gabalooloo may be right. Hope this helps.
Ok thanks for the quick response! Has anyone else had their contract yet?
Ah thats not great for me then.. He told me I would be in a particular office (not st. albans!!) because I live there! St. Albans is a very long way in comparison.. This changes things quite a bit now.. Will have to call them tomorrow..
missesthepoint,
on my contract it says stalbans as well and i rang them up to ask, they told me that you will find out more information when you actually join. The interviewer told me I will be based in Wembley, so don't worry too much at this stage.
Well in my interview I asked which office I would be based in and was told that I wouldn't be based in an office but a sector such as north or central london since you go to the clients, they don't come to you. But obviously we wouldn't be going to the clients straight away so start off in an office and then later on would probably have an office which we communicate with and go back to more so that would kinda be your base.
Also Corms1 if you're not that bothered about living in central london you can find cheaper places outside london with good train links in. For example Watford is not that nice a place but has cheaper housing and is only 15 mins on the train to euston. So you may want to research surrounding areas.
Thanks for the help guys! (gabalooloo, zak1057)
I didn't see your messages before I called and they confirmed everything that has just been said on this forum..
I am hopefully soon to pass my driving test, so I guess St Albans was a bit of a shock to my system! A 3 hour trip each way is quite a big difference from the 15 minute cycle ride to my local office!!
They said I would only be visiting St. Albans around once a month, and I would be in my local office to begin with, so that's a relief. Not that i'm not up for the travelling (as it's obviously a major part of the job!) I'm just trying to anticipate how big my travel issues are going to be in the first month or so before we find our feet.. and I pass test..
Yeh thats what I'm doing at the moment gabalooloo. Its pretty tough goin finding a decent enough place for fairly cheap. Ah I'm sure I'll get some type of alright place to keep me goin.
Is everyone looking forward to starting? Who's doing IIA and who's going for the ACCA. I worked with EY for just over a year and have a good bit of my ACA exams done so I reckon I'll try transfer as much of them to ACCA and keep on with that.
I'm supposed to be doing IIA but am thinking of asking to switch to ACCA. Do you think that'll be possible as I've already signed my contract specifying IIA?
Hey macers. I don't see that being a prob. Its your future in the end, so defo change if you want. I only have 5 exams left if I do ACCA so I might aswell go for that over the year and try get it out of the way ASAP....exams can be a real pain.
Ya obviously did well in college to get offered a place with Deloitte yeh? Then there should be no prob goin ACCA. If ya have any questions let me know.
I tried to stick with ACA but they wouldn't support it, but its all the same in the end
I have tried to give you good advice... like I said if you could avoid working in london (london north and london south west - it's more of a bootcamp) things will be much better. I have had friends that have worked there and they have had some awful experiences.
Also, when my year joined we all said it would have be good to have been warned on the environment so I thought you might appreciate a heads up to prepare yourselves as there is no research that can really prepare you for this job.
With regards to the IIA, if people want to do internal audit long term that's fine but it's hard to know unless you start the job. I was trying to say that if you have an option to do the ACCA the managers might try and sway you into the IIA, but if you don't it's not really an issue as you don't have an option.
My best advice would be is go in there with thick skin, be enthusiastic and work hard. It does look great on your CV so you want to try and stay for as long as you can.. meaning putting your head down and getting on with things. Just be careful with managers. It's important to be very efficient. Things like responding to emails promptly and meeting deadlines (even to very small things) are really important - there will be alot of training and deadlines for this and reminders and other admin things you may need to do... If you keep to this it should be fine. Also, being on time or early is very important too!
Making a good impression is very important even at times you when you may be bored.
I'm not really exaggerating when I talk about people leaving - and it's not just because it's not for them... alot of people actually stay in internal audit... it's just working in PSIA Deloitte that they don't like - so I don't really think that's a fair comment if the general manager has informed you of that. People mainly leave because of the environment and management rather than the job itself even though it's not something people enjoy anyway. Some people even get pushed out.
I also saw a comment about someone wanting to change from IIA to ACCA. Some people tried to do this previously and the general manager was not happy about this. I even heard this year they were thinking about putting a stop to ACCA totally. Once you have agreed to do the IIA and signed your contract, it might be abit of a nightmare switching esp once you start!
I don't want to scare you all.. but want to prepare yourselves to give you the best start and an easier journey in your new job.
I do hope it goes well for you all and good luck with it all!!

no one knows about it????please please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
